Event, Friday, November 7. TaylorMarie’s is a mobile retail clothing store
that brings in racks of up-to-date and affordable brands like Alfred Dunner
and Ruby Road. New fall arrivals are priced at 30% off, and clearance items
are at 50% off. The shopping is scheduled from 10am-1pm, and 3-5pm.

At Mirabella, we want to show appreciation to our veterans year-round.
However, Veterans Day is the one day set aside each November to honor
those who have served and continue to serve our country. They deserve our
respect and recognition for all their sacrifices.
To celebrate the day, we will begin at 10:30 am with a brief ceremony
at the flagpole. After lunch, we will have refreshments and continue with a
salute to our veterans. We encourage all residents to join us in the Lobby at
1:30 pm for the festivities and special recognition.

each of us. Fond memor
ies can bring us joy and
happiness, but also
twinges of sadness as we
miss loved ones no long
er with us. This got
me thinking of how gr
ateful I am for the man

in my life. Then I starte

thankful for today?”
My eyes opened to th
e routine things I take
for granted on a
daily basis. I am able to
walk outside and enjo
y the sunshine. I can

er y day as I sit in craz
y traffic. I have been
blessed with the respon

bunctious children:
two teenage boys and
one pre-teen girl. I am
married to a man who
deeply loves me and all
ows me the honor of lo
ving him. I have the
unique opportunity to
use the skills the Lord
has given me to lead

Where would we be without pears? From salad
plates to dessert plates, the pear is a sweet delight
enjoyed around the world. Here are some interesting
facts about this lovely fruit.
Pears are broadly classified based upon their place
of origin as Asian-pears and European-pears. Asian
varieties feature crispy texture and firm consistency
that do not change even after harvesting or storage,
making them fit for ready-to-eat. Whereas, European
types generally become soft and juicy when allowed
them to ripen.
Pears are packed with health benefiting nutrients
such as dietary fiber, anti-oxidants, minerals and
vitamins, which are necessary for optimum health.
They contain good quantities of vitamin C. Fresh fruits
provide about 7% of RDA per 100 g.
The fruit is a good source of minerals such as
copper, iron, potassium, manganese and magnesium
as well as B-complex vitamins such as folates, riboflavin
and pyridoxine (vitamin B-6). They are also a good
source of dietary fiber. Regular eating of this fruit may
offer protection against colon cancer. Additionally,
its gritty fiber content binds to cancer-causing toxins
and chemicals in the colon, protecting its mucous
membrane from contact with these compounds.
In addition, pear fruit is one of the very low calorie
fruits; provides just 58 calories per 100g. A low calorie
but high fiber diet may help bring significant reduction
in body weight, and blood LDL cholesterol levels.
Pears have been suggested in various traditional
medicines in the treatment of colitis, chronic gallbladder
disorders, arthritis, and gout.

An Attitude of Gratitude
Associate of the Month
Do you have an attitude?
Of course you do--all people do!
Congratulations to our community
During November, our Mirabella residents are challenged
to cultivate an “Attitude of Gratitude.” For each of the twenty
days leading up to our Family Thanksgiving Dinner (November
20), Mirabella residents will be given a colorful paper leaf on
which you can complete this sentence: “I’m thankful for...”
Simple things like “cooler fall days” or “my good eye doctor”
might be noted; the name of a special Mirabella friend or staff
member could be written down; a family memory or a spiritual
truth may be recalled and placed on the fall leaf as you spend a
few moments being thankful for things large or small.
Perhaps you remember the words “Count your blessings;
name them one by one.” The Lifestyles Department has a
special “Attitude of Gratitude” jar for each resident to use in
counting, writing down, and reflecting upon the many things
for which you feel grateful. At the Family Thanksgiving Dinner,
we will share some of the many reflections of gratitude by our
residents.

Mirabella, Buddy has made a big impact with
residents and staff alike. Lifestyles Director
Charlotte W. said of him, “Buddy always
shows initiative, and is willing to go above and
beyond his regular responsibilities to help our
residents and around the community. He is a
great addition to the Lifestyles Department,
and a true team player.”
Great job, Buddy! We are glad to have
you at Mirabella and appreciate the hard
work you do every day.
Loneliness, isolation, and physical challenges can often
lead to attitudes of negativity or bitterness, but cultivating an
attitude of gratitude is the very best way to chase those away!
As fall leaves and cooler weather usher in a new autumn season,
let us all enjoy a season of gratitude in our daily lives.
*Other ways to develop an “Attitude of Gratitude:”
• Write a note to a friend, neighbor or staff member at
Mirabella who has made an impact on your life. Take
the opportunity to convey your gratitude for them. A
“Thankful Mailbox” will be located in the Post Office
where you can drop off notes and letters of appreciation.
The Lifestyles Staff will make the “special deliveries.”
• You’ve heard of “Random Acts of Kindness,” right?
Practice these throughout the month. Hold the elevator
for someone. Give a sincere compliment to your server
in the Dining Room. Greet a staff member in the hallway
with a cheery, “Hello” and a smile. It will brighten your day.
• Some of our residents will not be able to join us in the
Dining Room during the Family Thanksgiving Dinner.
During Crafts, we will decorate some gift bags and cards
to be placed on their dinner trays to make their meal time
special.
Let’s look for ways to develop an “Attitude of Gratitude”
every day of the year.

From Colossians 1:9 we read, “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have
not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in
all spiritual wisdom and understanding.”
Prayer is both a responsibility and a privilege. When we study the life of our Lord we notice
that He prayed continuously. If the Son of God needed to pray, then how much more must
we be recognized as prayer warriors? In fact, if you want to know what God’s will is for your
life, then read 1 Thess. 5:16-18 and note that “pray without ceasing” is doing the will of God.
Now in our devotional verse Paul teaches the Colossian believers to pray that the brethren
will be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” This is
not worldly wisdom, but godly wisdom. This is not wisdom to make us proud, but wisdom that
humbles us before our Lord and Savior. We gain that wisdom by meditating upon, studying,
and memorizing the Word of God. We want the Word to control our minds and lead us in
righteous living. What controls our minds controls our behavior.
The terms wisdom and understanding are different in the Greek text. Wisdom refers to the
ability to organize the principles of Scripture, while understanding implies the ability to apply
biblical principles to everyday life. Both terms are spiritual in nature. So as we learn the Word
and practice the Word, the world begins to see the Word ( Jesus Christ, see John 1:1-10) in
our character and godly practice.
Awesome isn’t it? Pray that prayer for others and yourself
and watch what happens!

Great American Smokeout
November 20, 2014
The Great American Smokeout has helped dramatically change
Americans’ attitudes about smoking. These changes have led to
community programs and smoke-free laws that are now saving
lives in many states. Annual Great American Smokeout events
began in the 1970s, when smoking and secondhand smoke were
commonplace.
Kicking the tobacco habit offers some benefits that you’ll notice
right away and some that will develop over time. These rewards
improve most peoples’ day-to-day lives a great deal:
• Breath smells better
• Stained teeth get whiter
• Bad smelling clothes and hair go away
• Yellow fingers and fingernails disappear isn’t it time
