FROM NTU PRESIDENT
PROFESSOR BERTIL ANDERSSON
The next step in your life is an important one as it lays the blueprint for
your future. Your university years will be the most rewarding time of
your life as it prepares you for your transformation from a student to a
young working professional.
At NTU, we believe career planning starts from day one as you
discover your strengths, realise your passions and draft your roadmap
for the future. We have recently set up the Margaret Lien Centre for
Professional Success, which will assist you over your three to four
years of studies to plan what career suits you and land that dream job.
NTU graduates are highly sought after in the job market. Two
in three of our graduates have a j ob offer before graduation
– many receive multiple job offers – and it’s not uncommon
for our students to have secured jobs as early as during
their internships.
At NTU, you will be taught and mentored by professors who are
leading lights in their fields, such as Prof Vijay Sethi who was named
the World’s Best Business Professor by The Economist in 2013.
Besides stellar faculty, you will be in good company with other bright
young minds. NTU has seen an 83% increase in top A-Level students
enrolling in 2014 compared to 2011. The university is where you build
your network and social connections for the future so get off to a flying

Globally, NTU has an excellent network of top overseas universities
and industry partners. This means our undergraduates will have
opportunities for various academic and research activities with the

will go overseas at least once during their studies. Having been in
leadership positions in different parts of the world myself, I firmly
believe in the advantages of developing multicultural intelligence.

We recently welcomed the first batch of students to our two new
Pioneer and Crescent Halls, which will be home to 1,250 students.
Within a green oasis of tree-lined boardwalks, sky terraces and a
natural pond, you will experience new ways of living, learning and
leisure.
Also awaiting you is the brand new learning hub where you can mix,
and exchange ideas with friends from other disciplines and schools.
56 smart classrooms, a lecture theatre, library, and student pods can
be used for group discussions, club or society meetings and so on.
Among other modern academic and recreational facilities coming your
way is the lifestyle hub conveniently located near the main Lee Wee
Nam Library. Walk into city life on campus and be spoilt for choice at
new food and retail outlets as well as more spaces to mingle. This will
be ready in your freshman year.

How ARE students prepared for A global career?
Students today need to adapt to a rapidly changing global landscape
that requires more than just professional knowledge and competence.
Being able to communicate effectively, collaborate, identify issues,
find creative solutions, navigate through large volumes of information
and manage multicultural teams are critical skills for tomorrow’s
leaders. The ability to keep on learning is also highly prized.
Technology enables students to access an unimaginable amount of
data and the ways in which learning is achieved are now more varied.
Today’s learners are part of what the online Urban Dictionary refers to
as the EPIC Generation, who “are experiential, participatory, imagedriven and connected”.
In light of changing trends, NTU retooled its undergraduate student
experience and curriculum to give students more opportunities to
develop the attributes important for lifelong professional success.

What is NTU Education?
It’s often been said that one’s university years are the first draft of
your future. Like the droplets of water that will eventually fill a pail,
every experience contributes to a student’s overall NTU Student
Experience. All freshmen will soon understand what it means to be
NTU students and how they will be prepared for the challenges and
benefits of being part of a globalised society.
In 2011, NTU introduced a new approach to the undergraduate
experience that puts learning within and beyond the curriculum at its
core. Called NTU Education, this approach focuses on how students
learn and provides opportunities to develop skills that will enable them
to thrive in their future professional lives with optimism and confidence.

HOW DOES THE NTU CURRICULUM SHAPE
UNDERGRADUATES?
NTU academic life is about strengthening the capacity for learning
with thinking (rather than mere schooling or training) that nurtures the
student to be an Intellectual, a Scholar, a Thinker and a Humanitarian.
The curriculum is carefully designed with relevance to ensure rigour,
diversity and flexibility through a fine balance of depth, breadth and
free elective courses.
The disciplinary depth inculcates self-exploration and creativity in
problem solving. It is also multifaceted with intellectual, practical,
professional and global exposure through enrichment choices
like undergraduate research final year projects, professional work
internships, overseas study exchanges and entrepreneurship courses
and activities.
Through compulsory breadth courses, all students are to read
Communication Skills, Career Foundation, Singapore Studies,
Ethics, Environmental Sustainability, and Enterprise & Innovation.
These aim to solidify the grounding of the Graduate Attributes to
produce the “polished NTU Graduate” - someone with strong ethics,
entrepreneurial mindset, social conscience, communication skills,
and personal flair.
To broaden their horizons, students are offered a wide palette of
breadth and free elective courses in the broad fields of humanities &
social sciences, science & technology, business and liberal arts.
For high calibre students, NTU offers a competitive range of special
programmes to intellectually stretch them through multidisciplinary
learning. Besides a series of double degree and double major
programmes, there are the Premier Scholars Programmes in the
form of Renaissance Engineering Programme, University Scholars
Programme, CN Yang Scholars Programme, and NTU-NIE Teaching
Scholars Programme.

HOW DOES NTU’S PEDAGOGY SUPPORT NEW WAYS
OF LEARNING?
NTU relentlessly renews its pedagogy to cater for active learning
through engaging, empowering and connecting learners. Delivery
and assessment of courses are in tune with real world applications to
foster skills required for employment. More continuous assessment
and a reduction in the emphasis on final examinations are being
progressively aligned with more outcome-based assessment
methods. Collaborative and outcome-based learning are featured
when applicable to impart team-based skills and practical relevance.
Students have a strong sense of who they are and what makes them
distinct as NTU graduates.
IT infrastructure is constantly upgraded for seamless integration with
mobile technologies to enable learning anytime, anywhere. Flipped
classrooms are becoming the norm, giving rise to a combination of
blended-learning and online courses. This avails students towards
self-directed online learning to complement face-to-face discussions
with tutors and peers. NTU has extended its expertise on the global
scale by offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). MOOCs
on Forensic Science and on Symmetry have already garnered close
to a hundred thousand in enrolment to date.
A dramatic transformation of the NTU campus has been taking place.
Physical spaces have been re-designed to better support learning.
Tutorial rooms are reconfigured as collaborative learning spaces
supporting small group discussions and equipped with movable
furniture, electronic white boards, multiple LCD screens, and various
IT capabilities.
To support learning and self-study outside classrooms, many pockets
of learning spaces are strategically dispersed throughout the campus
with a mix of recreational, social and wired facilities to create a
relaxing atmosphere that infuses social interaction as an essential part
of learning.

HOW DOES NTU ACHIEVE TEACHING EXCELLENCE?
Every member of the university faculty is both a researcher and
teacher, creating new knowledge and sharing it. Equal emphasis is
placed on research and teaching performance in faculty appraisal.
Awards are presented at School, College and University levels to
recognise outstanding teaching practices and to encourage professors
to implement teaching innovations.
The Teaching Excellence Academy recognises awardees as Fellows,
uplifting their status as great teachers. The academy will also organise
events and conduct Master classes to promote good teaching.
All new faculty members take a foundation course in university
learning and teaching soon after joining the university. To ensure
they are kept current with the latest developments in education and
learning, NTU runs courses and workshops in areas such as new
teaching and learning technologies and tools, and presentation and
communication skills.
Grants will also be awarded to faculty members who wish to raise
the bar in teaching through research in instruction and learning. The
results of their efforts will be shared university-wide.

In addition to services and support for all students to enhance their
health and wellbeing, NTU provides special support to students
facing challenges during their university years. Through the Campus
Community Approach to Student Health and Wellbeing, students
have access to support and advice in diverse areas such as health,
time management, relationships, financial management and conflict
resolution.
What about life ‘outside the classroom’?
At NTU, academic life is complemented by Student Life – learning
beyond the curriculum.
It entails a willingness to try something new, to develop new skills,
discover new interests and make new friends.
Student leaders have an active role in representing student views
and needs in university-level committees. They are consulted on
important areas that affect academic and campus life. Through this
process, they gain insight into the university strategies and directions.
They hone their leadership and communication skills, developing that
extra edge that will serve them well when they graduate.
The philosophy of NTU Student Life is easily summarised. NTU
students are valued members of the campus community. Each and
every student is a co-owner, co-creator and co-driver of their NTU
Student Experience.
To make the most of a multicultural environment, intercultural
competence is a must. At NTU’s residential campus where more than
100 nationalities are represented, students work, live and socialise in
culturally-diverse groups. Through these interactions and programmes
that enhance inter-cultural skills, they develop cultural sensitivity and
learn to appreciate differences and respect others.
With a student population of 34,000, NTU buzzes with cultural, social,

activities organised by the Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC)

Located at the North Spine near Lee Wee Nam library, the Student
Activities Centre (SAC) and Global Lounge are popular meeting points
for our students to chill out or engage in project discussions with
professors and classmates. Apart from the study zone and meeting rooms, SAC also comes with
a dance studio and a signature U-Relax One Corner (U-ROC) zone
that are bustling with life. You can hear music and boisterous laughter
emanating from the dance studio and feel the excitement in the air
with students getting together for friendly games like billiard, pool,
foosball and a video game or two.
The relaxation continues at the Global Lounge with comfortable
armchairs hooked up to wide screens to keep you updated on the
latest news and shows from all around the world. And for all you shopaholics, browse through stylish caps, hoodies,
t-shirts and other neat goods at the Union Shop.
New Pioneer and Crescent Halls
A platform for the University to pilot new pedagogical models that
integrate learning within and outside the formal curriculum, these
two new eco-friendly halls of residence are inspired by nature. From
unique layout and window designs that promote natural ventilation to
solar water heater for showers and electric vehicle charging stations,
students will enjoy a greener living environment. Sports facilities
and BBQ pits provide a feast for your taste buds while helping you
keep fit. The new halls are also equipped with water features that
recycle water for plants and ambient lighting to end off your day on a
delightful note!
Off-Campus Accommodation
If you prefer off-campus accommodation, NTU has an online portal
system to aid your search. Students will be able to find apartments
or rooms for rent and obtain prospective landlord’s contact details, all
with a click of the mouse.
LEARNING HUB AT SOUTH SPINE
Designed by Heatherwick Studio and conceptualised with inputs from
students, the new eight-storey learning hub at South Spine is a unique
centrepiece that houses 56 state-of-the-art tutorial rooms, a lecture

Global lounge is the students’ place to meet and relax
Clubs and Communities
Explore diverse interests and create your own unique NTU story with
more than 100 student organisations. The Students’ Union represents
the interests of all full-time undergraduates, while 14 academic
constituent clubs and 18 Junior Common Room Committees and
Hall Councils cater to the specific interests of students in the various
Schools and residents at the Halls of Residence respectively. Besides
the Cultural Activities Club, Sports Club and Welfare Services Club,
close to 80 other groups also cater to special interests such as board
games, fishing, food appreciation, current affairs and investing.
Sports and Recreation
The Sports and Recreation Centre actively promotes healthy living
through sports and recreational events. Some notable events on the student activities calendar include:
Indoor ― Activity rooms, fitness gyms, bouldering wall,
multipurpose sports halls for badminton, table tennis, basketball,
and others. • Students’ Union: NTU FEST, International Culture and Travel Fair,

Students can learn new sports and activities with the Re’kre-at
programme. And the ladies can sign up for the women-only Pretty

Meals on Campus
A variety of cafes, bistros, food courts, fast food outlets and a
Chinese restaurant dot our campus offering a wide array of local and
international meals. From artisanal coffee and cakes to vegetarian
meals and well-loved local hawker fare, you will be spoilt for choice.
Take your pick from fast food outlets such as McDonald’s, Subway
and KFC to food courts such as Koufu and chill out at cafes such as
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Spruce Bistro @ WKWSCI. Nearer
to the 18 halls of residence are nine hall food courts where a number
of the food stalls attract a beeline of customers. More than just venues
for meals, all our F&B outlets also host activities that promote social

Health and Wellness
At NTU, just as you enrich your mind, we ensure your health is
enhanced and taken care of as well. A one-stop health services centre
comprises a medical clinic, a dental clinic and a wellbeing centre that
caters to students’ health and wellness needs. Located centrally
between the north and south spines, the centre is easily accessible
on foot as well as by the campus shuttle bus.
One Stop @ SAC
Located beside the Student Activities Centre (SAC), the One Stop @
SAC is NTU’s student services helpdesk that provides advice and
information from admission matters to payments all under one roof. Designed for convenience, students can maximise their time while
waiting to be served with our SMS alert system and login to access
NTU’s various online services with self-service kiosks. And with
respect to customer service excellence, students can also expect

The North Spine Hub
Scheduled to be ready around the later part of 2015, the North
Spine Hub is the focal point at NTU for creative expression with its
new social spaces, F&B and retail options. Budding entrepreneurs
can test their business ideas at the new Union Street. Students,
faculty and staff can look forward to showcasing their talents at
the new performance area, The Spotlight. Canopy K is the popular
social space for all things student led. With a new wider frontage,
mini stage and amphitheatre-style seating, students will soon be
able to enjoy some good entertainment. The open walkways on
Level 1 and 2 will also be covered with a semi-transparent roof,
providing more sheltered and conducive spaces for studying and
other student activities.

FACILITIES HIGHLIGHTS
Lee Wee Nam Library
Our flagship library houses an extensive collection of engineering and
science materials. It is also the site of our first Learning Commons
with specially designed spaces, a recording studio and equipment for
students to engage in group learning and discussion. Its fifth floor is
also a quiet zone for studying and reading, with the added inspiration
of a panoramic view of Singapore’s northwestern coast. Chinese Library
Here, you will find Chinese-language resources on Chinese literature
and history, philosophy, linguistics, politics, economics, sociology and
management science. It caters to those with a love for the Chinese
language and students seeking Chinese-language reading materials.
Communication and Information Library
Situated in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and
Information, this library contains more than 16,000 volumes of
print works on advertising, broadcasting, communication research,
information studies, journalism, library science, media law and ethics,
and public relations. In addition is an archive of final-year projects by
our communication students for your perusal. Humanities and Social Sciences Library
The Humanities and Social Sciences Library contains materials
ranging from psychology, sociology, and history to linguistics,
literature, philosophy and public administration. Set facing lush
greeneries, it also provides a conducive environment for reflection
and reading. Interim Medical Library
Located on our Novena campus, NTU’s newest library has a
fast growing collection of resources in medical sciences and
clinical practices. Wang Gungwu Library
Formerly the Resource Centre at NTU’s Chinese Heritage Centre,
this library focuses on materials related to overseas Chinese. It
was renamed after Professor Wang Gungwu for his contribution to
research in this area, and for his generous book donation to the library
in 2003.
Art, Design and Media Library
Located within the School of Art, Design and Media, this library
shares its name and the creative nature of its environment. Together
with strong resources in visual arts, architecture, drawing, design,
illustration, painting and photography, and audio-visual materials, it
also includes a cinema room, individual audio-visual viewing carrels,
flexible seating, and a large, writable black glass wall. Business Library
The Business Library has a large collection of business centric books
and journals. It also holds our main audio-visual collection across
all subjects and genres. A cinema room and workstations allow for
listening and viewing of these audio-visual materials. The library also
houses a business lounge and boardroom, as well as technologyassisted group learning areas, language learning facilities, and
resources and specialist career research materials at the Learning

NTU’s campus network practically transforms the University grounds
into one large virtual classroom. Students and professors can
frequently communicate, interact and collaborate with one another
almost anywhere on campus through mobile devices. Students
outside the campus can also enjoy access to the University’s
e-resources anytime, anywhere via broadband connection with
Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The NTU Intranet portal, iNTU, is a one-stop gateway to various
e-services and important information. Through these seamless
access networks and iNTU, students are always connected to the
University’s community and e-resources, wherever they are. Enhanced Learning Experience
NTU enhances students’ learning experience and creates a vibrant
environment for them to learn anytime, anywhere as learning is literally
just a click and a touch away. With their mobile devices (notebook or
tablet), students can access course content on the go and collaborate
using state-of-the-art learning tools and platforms. NTULearn, a
revamped Learning Management System, has many student-centric
features. It allows students to set up a social media profile within the
system, making learning fun and engaging. Other leading-edge tools
for students include i-Ngage, a multimodal collaborative tool and
Turnitin, an assignment tool that improves academic writing skills. Enhanced active and participative learning through technology-enabled
classrooms and easy-to-use learner response systems
Students also learn collaboratively in technology-enabled classrooms
that facilitate group discussions and learning, coupled with easy-touse learner response systems, such as Clickers, to achieve active
and participative learning. Picking up important 21st century skills such
as communicating and working with others becomes easy with most
tutorials conducted in such classrooms. Innovative and technology-enabled learning pedagogical approaches
are widely adopted to enhance learning, such as the flipped
classroom approach, team-based learning, Massive Open Online
Courses (MOOCs) and deployment of blended and online courses. In

Renaissance Engineering Programme
The Renaissance Engineering Programme (REP) is an integrated,
rigorous and fully residential programme with a curriculum that covers
a broad spectrum of multidisciplinary subjects bridging engineering,
business and the liberal arts which includes sciences, mathematics,
engineering technology management, and interdisciplinary studies.
This programme includes a one-year full-fledged overseas experience
at a partner university such as University of California, Berkeley and
Imperial College London with an Industrial Orientation in Year 3, and
it awards a dual-degree comprising Bachelor of Engineering Science
(with specialisation in a chosen engineering discipline) and Master of
Science in Technology Management in four and a half years.
University Scholars Programme
The University Scholars Programme (USP) leads a University-wide
commitment to provide an intellectually stimulating and enriching
academic environment for NTU’s best. The programme includes an
exciting multidisciplinary curriculum that complements their core
curriculum and supplements their general education programme.
From ethics to quantitative reasoning and religions of the world
to astronomy, USP offers a wide range of courses, special events,

REP is different from other engineering courses not just in terms of
its breadth as we are exposed to the various engineering disciplines

CN YANG Scholars Programme
The CN Yang Scholars Programme (CNYSP), named in honour of
Professor CN Yang (1957 Nobel Laureate in Physics), is a programme
that is specially designed for exceptional students with a deep passion
in science and engineering for the high-technology world of the 21st
century. The programme provides a strong and broad foundation
in science, mathematics and engineering so as to empower the
students to delve deeper into science and engineering disciplines.
Students are given unique opportunities to broaden their experience
by engaging in cutting edge research within NTU. At the end of their
undergraduate studies, CNYSP graduates are also given an option to
pursue postgraduate studies (PhD) with a scholarship and overseas
lab attachment.
Being in the CN Yang Scholars Programme has been a challenging
yet fulfilling experience. Its interdisciplinary curriculum has provided
me with a strong and balanced foundation in mathematics and

My journey at NTU was filled with valuable

tasks that were varied from the technical skills learnt and broadened
my knowledge of the oil and gas business. I was also awarded a

a job with the company.
One of my fondest memories is the friendships formed with my
schoolmates during our final year project in designing a chemical
plant. It was challenging but we worked as a team and pulled through

My four-year university life at NTU was a
wholesome experience. The hall stay was
especially memorable as it allowed me to
widen my circle of friends and made me
more independent.
SCE guides us to be critical, analytical and

in the workplace. I also had the chance to
go to Sweden and experience a different
culture and campus life through the overseas exchange programme.
I was able to use this exchange to complete eight modules in my
computer science programme and visit 15 countries! It was truly an
enriching journey!
In my final year, I wrote a paper on ‘Analysing the Effectiveness of
Wearable Wireless Sensors in Controlling Crowd Disasters’ with
three other schoolmates and it was published. I definitely could
not have done any of these things without the varied opportunities

I am grateful for the opportunity to travel to
India and perform wind tunnel testing for my
final year project (FYP). During this trip, I had
the chance to use one of the state-of-the-art wind tunnel facilities
and had the privilege to learn from the experts in the aerospace
research field. Working closely with these industry professionals
from a different culture and background has definitely pushed my
interpersonal skills and teamwork capabilities to a higher level.

I chose to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in
Visual Communication at NTU’s School of
Arts, Design and Media (ADM) because of
the University’s reputable standing in higher
education globally.
This degree programme does not only
allow me to learn about fundamentals, such
as typography and graphic design, it also
emphasises on critical thinking and research
on the communication strategies that helped me to develop greater
understanding of the context for the design work. In addition, we are
assigned an academic advisor from the faculty who will mentor us to
ensure we made good progress in our coursework and that we are
ready for a career in this field.
Having a well-recognised degree in the arts that provides
interdisciplinary interaction and exchange of ideas is of utmost
importance to me as well and ADM offers exactly that. I have taken
classes in areas of philosophy, business and even biology on top of
the lessons in my core programme. This has expanded my knowledge

My space for growth in ADM was not limited to academia; I was
honoured to serve the school as the 9th Vice President of the ADM
Student Club where I managed the domestic business and internal

Established in 2004, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
(HSS) is a dynamic and fast-growing School offering direct honours
degree programmes in nine disciplines, and providing a studentcentric education that enables students to gain specialised knowledge
in their majors and also develop interdisciplinary research strengths.
Dynamic Curriculum
Students can design their own curriculum and choose from more than
30 minor programmes, offered by other Schools and within HSS, such
as Creative Writing, Environmental and Urban Studies, Philosophy,
and Translation. Outstanding students can pursue a second major in
any of the nine major disciplines within HSS: Communication Studies;

Creative Writing Mentorship

I am grateful for the opportunity to embark on
a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience at
NTU. Its global standing and achievements in
higher education are well-known in the region.
I am also offered the ASEAN Scholarship
which has helped me pursue a degree
programme with NTU as a major part of the
cost is financed.
Having spent four years in HSS, I find it to
be young, forward-looking and vibrant. Its friendly and dedicated
professors never fail to add tinges of fun and joy to our learning
journey. The lessons are not solely based on theory and textbooks.
We also receive scientific and practical training in Psychology.
While the programme is interdisciplinary with learning in the areas of
neurophysiology, sociology, philosophy, and mathematics, there are
many interesting and kaleidoscopic modules such as Dance Sport
and Modern Jazz that one can explore for a diverse exposure.
Additionally, I was appointed as the Vice President of Mensa Club
and this role has helped to develop my leadership and effective
teamwork skills. Together, with the team members, we have
organised numerous mind-boggling activities, such as ‘Mensa

GO-FAR (Going Overseas for Advanced Reporting), just one of
the many practicums, is also an excellent training programme that
develops the tenacity of journalism students, who are expected to
pitch story ideas, pursue interviewees and develop a story – all of
which can prove to be difficult in a foreign environment.
In addition, with facilities like Newsplex Asia, also home to The

The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) is NTU’s new
interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental
research focused on Asian environmental challenges. We integrate
earth and environmental life sciences, ecology, engineering and
technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to
address key issues of the environment and sustainability.
Building on the strengths of NTU’s two Research Centres of Excellence
(RCEs) – Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) and Singapore
Centre for Environmental Life Science Engineering (SCELSE) – along
with the Complexity Institute, the Division of Earth Sciences, and
other academic units, we are supported by experienced faculty from
top institutions globally with seven of them holding the prestigious
Singapore National Research Foundation Fellowships. In addition, we
are also advancing into new areas, such as ecology and environmental
earth systems science.
The Environmental Earth Systems Science Major is our flagship
programme. This is a highly selective programme in which a small
cohort of majors allows for an innovative and interactive learning
environment. Students who choose this course will gain a strong
background in quantitative skills, modern computing techniques,
and core environmental earth systems, mathematics, and sciences.
On top of the international experience that students will gain in
numerous field-based courses, we also encourage them to take a
semester abroad to expand their learning beyond their core discipline.
Our programme also offers students with a choice of specialisation
within the major and there are opportunities for them to complete an
industrial attachment or final year research project in collaboration
with their faculty mentor.

Our graduates are prepared with the diverse skill sets required to

policy, and management; water resource management or hydrology;
environmental consulting; geotechnical consulting; geologic
survey or monitoring; natural resource exploration, extraction and
management (oil, gas and minerals); urban planning; and teaching

They are also able to enter industries such as insurance where
earth scientists are required to help assess long-term risk due
to earthquakes, volcanoes, climate change, and other natural

to develop my thinking and management
skills. The diverse and challenging
curriculum has expanded my capacity as
a student to be more insightful. Our small
cohort size allows personal attention
from the caring professors and teaching
assistants. The faculty here are ever-willing
to guide me, yet at the same time, I am
given much space to explore my areas of interests. My peers in
E2S2 are both intelligent and approachable as well. The group
discussions and sharing of ideas have brought our learning to a
higher level. Here, you will experience a culture where everyone

SBS is a young and rising school at NTU

presented with various opportunities to
pursue my research interest. I was able
to take up premium electives such as the
Undergraduate Advanced Experimental
Biology (UAEB) workshops. The class size for
these workshops is small and conducive for
learning and having more in-depth interaction
with the professors. I also had the privilege to
join the URECA programme, pursuing research on how tropical fruits
ameliorate obesity and published the papers with natural science
journals. This elite undergraduate research programme enabled me
to work with professors from other schools and taught me to integrate
other areas of study into my research.
SBS also gave me the chance to go on an exchange programme
at University of Manchester where I was able to maximise my
overseas learning experience with the flexibility to take up my
choice modules during this trip. I am thankful to SBS for offering

I expressed interest in trying my hand at research, my organic
chemistry tutor at that time, Dr Sreekumar, quickly recommended
me into Professor Loh Teck Peng’s organic chemistry lab. Though it
was unusual for first year undergraduates to be accepted, I spent my
first summer learning total synthesis of marine natural products from
an excellent mentor, Dr Hu Xuhong. If you know what you want to do,
NTU most probably has a route for you to pursue it.

I took up a minor programme in translation as it enhances my field

Minimum Subject Requirements
You must have completed at least 12 years of general education or will be taking High School national examinations in the year of application
in order to be considered for admission. Submission of IELTS, TOEFL, SAT Reasoning Test and PTE Academic scores are optional except for
students with PRC Gao Kao qualification (i.e. students who will be taking Gao Kao in June 2015 and those who have already taken Gao Kao). Only
scores obtained in the two years leading up to the application deadline will be considered.

1. The schemes are only applicable to undergraduate studies. Students will only be covered under these schemes for the first three years of the Biomedical Sciences
& Chinese Medicine double degree programme.
2. International students paying non-subsidised tuition fees are not eligible to apply for financial aid schemes.
3. NIE trainee teachers who are either drawing salary/stipend from MOE or paying non-subsidised tuition fees are not eligible to apply for the NTU-administered financial
assistance schemes except for the OSP and PC Loans.

Tuition Fees

For ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-16
The Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) provides Tuition Grant (TG) which covers a substantial portion of the full tuition fees to
eligible students.
Full-time undergraduate students who gain admission to NTU on a subsidised fee basis are eligible for TG up to the normal duration taken to
complete a degree programme. Students who receive the tuition grant are required to pay only the subsidised tuition fee.
For students who move or are re-admitted within NTU or across local universities, they will be eligible for TG up to the normal programme
duration less the number of semesters of TG received for the previous programme(s). For example, if a student has spent two semesters in a local
university, and applies to NTU to pursue a four-year (that is, eight-semester) undergraduate programme, the student will be eligible for the MOE
TG for only six (that is, eight minus two) semesters at NTU.
The TG is also extended to non-Singaporean students (including Singapore Permanent Residents). However, they are required to sign a TG
agreement in which they will be contractually obliged to work in a Singapore-based company for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.
Otherwise, they will be required to pay the non-subsidised tuition fees.
