PRIDE TRADITION EXCELLENCE
Dear Washington High School Families:
We are a week away from Spring Break and the 3rd Quarter is ending March 31st. Where did the time go? Please expect
students to bring home their 3rd quarter progress grades the week of April 13th. There is a lot going on during the final 9
weeks of school.
On April 20th and 21st, Sophomores will take the Life Science portion of the STAR test. Sophomores are taking the Life
Science test because of No Child Left Behind requirements. From May 18th through May 29th, Juniors will be taking the
Smarter Balanced Assessment or SBAC exam. The SBAC exam measures knowledge of the new Common Core State
Standards, and this year’s Junior class will be the first group of students to take this exam. A score will be sent home this
summer informing families on how well a student did on the SBAC exam.
Registration for next year’s classes is complete and students will receive a receipt of the classes they are signed up for in
early May. If a student wishes to change the classes he or she is signed up for, this will be the time to do it.
There are still a number of scholarship opportunities for Seniors. For information on scholarships contact Washington’s
career tech, Michelene Wittmer, or look under the Counseling tab on the Washington website and connect to the
College and Career Center link. A.P. exams will be taking place May 4th through May 15th. Students should have already
registered and paid for the exams they plan to take.
Washington’s spring production, Lucky Stiff, opens May 1st. Matt Ballin describes the play as Weekend at Bernies set in
Monte Carlo. I am told it is extremely funny and I can’t wait to see it. Please visit Washington’s website for more details
and ticket information. The Spring Band and Choir performance is taking place May 27th at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. If
you have not had a chance to listen to the wonderful music program Amberle Mitchell, our new music teacher, has put
together, I encourage you to take the opportunity to do so.
Washington’s Prom is May 9th and will be held at the Scottish Rite Temple in Oakland. I anticipate this to be one of the
highlights of the year for Washington’s Juniors and Seniors. Our ASB program is the best in the Fremont Unified School
District and I can’t wait to see Scottish Rite Temple done up in Black and Orange.
I want to thank you for raising such wonderful kids. It is a true pleasure to work at Washington High School. If you have
any questions or concerns please contact me.
Sincerely,
Bob Moran

If a student has failed any required class or is behind on elective units, then it is necessary that s/he go to

Summer School.
Summer School will be offered to students meeting eligibility criteria in the order that follows:
1. Students needing units in specific courses to graduate

Students who have a D in college prep math, science or Spanish need to go to Summer School to
improve their grade to a C or higher to meet the prerequisites to continue to the next level. Summer School
registration forms are available in the Counseling Office. Students who have questions or who need a
registration form should see their counselor. Registration forms must be completed and signed by a
parent or guardian and returned by MAY 1, 2015 to the Counseling Office at WHS for priority
registration. Tear off the registration page and return.

confirmation, or it is incorrect, the student must report to the Summer School Counseling Office at
Washington High School on June 18th and 19th between 8:00AM and noon.
IF YOUR STUDENT CURRENTLY HAS A “D” OR “F” IN A REQUIRED CLASS,

WHS PTSA will be celebrating our wonderful
teachers and staff in the beginning of May. We
have a lot of fun things planned for them, but to
make it happen, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We plan
to provide lunches, breakfast, afternoon snacks and
treats. If you are able to serve as the team lead for
one of the days, please step forward.
In addition, we will need food donations and gift
certificates. Cash donations to purchase supplies
and ingredients are always welcome.
As we’ve done in the past, we hope to give
away prizes to as many teachers and staff as we
can. To that end, we are looking for things like
movie tickets, restaurant gift cards (in any amount),
small gift baskets, etc. For more information and to
volunteer, please visit our sign-up
