1. Choose your favourite scene from the novel so far. Choose a character involved in that scene and write a diary entry from their point of view. You should choose your language carefully to recreate their specific voice. 2. Choose a chapter and write an alternative ending. Share this with a friend, parent or carer and discuss why you made the changes you have made. 3. Research the author’s life and where she found the inspiration to tell the story. 4. Read another novel by Susan Hill and discuss your thoughts and feelings about it. 1. Create a comic strip to illustrate a key moment or scene from the novel so far. 2. Write a letter to Susan Hill where you discuss your thoughts about the novel – remember to use a full range of punctuation and varied sentence types for effect. 3. Write 10-15 challenging quiz questions that could be used in a ‘Woman in Black’ quiz – remember to include the answers. 4. Write the estate agent’s description of Eel Marsh house – remember to include details about the house from the point of view of someone trying to sell it. 1. 2. 3. Create a mind map of the main characters in the novel and link 5 key quotations for each character to them. Identify 10 words that you are not familiar with and create a glossary for them. Write 3 tweets from @ArthurKipps explaining how he feels at different points in the novel.
