Αδυνατώ να πιστέψω ότι μια χώρα βρίσκεται σε τόσο μεγάλο αδιέξοδο. Όχι δεν ζω άλλου,
ούτε υπερίπταμαι. Ωστόσο σκέφτομαι ότι με ένα τόσο καλοπληρωμένο επιτελείο και
εκατοντάδες υψηλής διάνοιας (και μισθοδοσίας) συμβούλους επί παντός επιστητού, με
μια σπουδαία επιστημονική κοινότητα και διακεκριμένες προσωπικότητες στις τάξεις
της, η διαχείριση να είναι όχι απλά προβληματική ή μη αποδοτική, αλλά περίγελος της
οικουμένης.
Οι προσωπικές επιχειρήσεις των διοικούντων, άραγε, είναι σε παρόμοια κατάσταση; Tα
οικογενειακά θέματα έχουν θολώσει και λιμνάσει όπως τα ζητήματα πρόνοιας; Συζητούν
για φλέγοντα –οικογενειακά– θέματα επί 6 μήνες και αναθεωρούν, επανεξετάζουν και
γνωμοδοτούν δίκην καφενείου; Εν τάχει, ακολουθούν παρόμοια τακτική στα ιδιωτικά
τους;
Αντιθέτως με μια γρήγορη ματιά παρατηρούμε ότι όλα είναι σε πλήρη λειτουργία, επιχειρηματικά, οικονομικά – θεσμικά, και ότι άπτεται στα εν οίκω τους τελούν σε
καλά προστατευμένα πλαίσια με διασφαλισμένες αποδόσεις στο παρόν και στο μέλλον.
Επιπλέον, έχουν δημιουργήσει ένα αδιαπέραστο τοίχος, ένα άβατο, μεταφυσικό πολλές
φορές, ώστε όσο λόγος και ντόρος να γίνεται περί ευθυνών ουδέποτε να φτάνουμε σε

Πώς αλλιώς να εξηγήσω, όταν η Ανώτατη αρχή της διαφύλαξης της πολιτιστικής
κληρονομιάς, δεν υφίσταται καμία κύρωση όταν δεν έχει φροντίσει την ασφάλεια
αρχαιολογικού χώρου με αποτέλεσμα να κάνουν φτερά εκατοντάδες μουσειακά
εκθέματα. Ο κατάλογος της φθοράς της δημόσιας περιουσίας είναι ατελείωτος, κανείς
όμως από τους διοικούντες δεν έχουν ουσιαστική ευθύνη γιατί είναι εκτός της ιδιωτικής
πόρτας. Ο κύριοι του ΥΠΠΟ είναι υπό του μηδενός, όμως ο προϊστάμενος τους την
βγάζει καθαρή με μια επιστολή παραίτησης, μοιράζει και ανωτερότητα σαν να έκανε
χαρακίρι δημοσίως ενώ το ίδιο βράδυ κάθεται ατσαλάκωτος δίπλα στο αναμμένο τζάκι
περιμένοντας το προσωπικό να ανοίξει την πόρτα στους καλεσμένους τους.
Η παραπάνω εικόνα αναπαράγεται κάθε βράδυ, με διαφορετικά σενάρια, είτε πουλήσει το
Βατοπέδιο, είτε υπογράφει συμφωνίες αγνοώντας το περιεχόμενο, είτε στήνει υποβρύχια
να φυλάνε το Πεντάγωνο, είτε αφήνει άδεια νοσοκομεία, δεν προκύπτουν κυρώσεις ούτε
θα πει ποτέ δημοσίως ήμαρτον.
Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο λοιπόν ο ελληνικός λαός καλείται να σηκώσει μεγάλα βάρη στις
πλάτες του, το ζήτημα είναι δεν έχει βρει μια κυβέρνηση να το μοιραστεί και σίγουρα να
το διαχειριστεί.

It’s a Penalty!
I cannot believe that a country could ever get to such a terrible dead end. No, I don’t live
elsewhere, say on cloud nine. However, having a really well-paid team of executives and
hundreds of high intelligence (and high pay) advisors on every single matter, having a great
academic community that boasts distinguished figures among its members, it’s a wonder
how the management of public matters is not simply problematic or inefficient but the
laughing stock round the globe.
Yet, I wonder if the personal business of the top state functionaries is in a similar condition.
Are their family matters blurred and stagnant like the social welfare matters? Do these
people discuss top-priority family matters for six months, reviewing, revisiting and passing
judgments just like old people do in the Greek coffee shops? Cutting a long story short, do
they follow the same policy when it comes to their personal, private affairs?
On the contrary, taking a quick look around, we can see that everything is working
perfectly well – business, finance everything pertaining to their home lies within a wellprotected frame with guaranteed efficiency in the present and in the future. Moreover, an
insurmountable wall, a sometimes metaphysical walled enclave, has been created around
them so that all the talks and fuss about “who is to blame” never reaches the point of
retribution.
I can’t explain or justify the fact that the Supreme Authority responsible for safeguarding
our cultural heritage is not castigated for having failed to protect an archaeological site thus
resulting in hundreds of museum exhibits disappearing. The list of ravaged public property
has no end, but none of the state functionaries is truly liable since this is a matter out of their

He showed integrity of character as if he had publicly performed hara-kiri, whereas on the
same night he was sitting straightlaced and unharmed next to the fireplace waiting for his
butler to usher his guests.
The scene described above is repeated every night, following different scenarios: he has
just sold Vatopedio, he has signed an agreement without having read the contents, he has
ordered submarines to guard the Pentagon, he has left hospitals with no supplies and
personnel. No penalties, no public request for mercy whatsoever.
Under these circumstances, the Greek people are called up to bear the heavy burden and
the real problem is that they have not yet found a government to share it with and handle it

Pantaenius Superyacht Cup sponsorship
Η μεγάλη ασφαλιστική εταιρεία σκαφών Pantaenius ανανέωσε

Marine insurance provider Pantaenius has renewed a three-year
sponsorship agreement with the Superyacht Cup regatta in Palma.
The agreement also includes sponsorship of the special Olympics
edition of the UK’s Superyacht Cup Cowes, which runs from 22-25
July — a few days before the start of the London 2012 Olympics.

Δύναμη βαροβαθμίδας
Pressure gradient force
Πρόκειται για τη δύναμη που ασκείται στον αέρα εξ αιτίας των
διαφορών πιέσεων. H ατμοσφαιρική πίεση του πλανήτη δεν είναι
ίδια σε όλα τα σημεία. Αυτό οφείλεται στην ανομοιόμορφη θέρμανση
του πλανήτη. Υπάρχουν περιοχές θερμότερες και ψυχρότερες. Στις
θερμότερες ο αέρας είναι ελαφρύτερος και κινείται προς τα επάνω, με
αποτέλεσμα εκεί η ατμοσφαιρική πίεση να είναι χαμηλότερη. Αντίθετα
σε ψυχρότερες περιοχές ο αέρας είναι βαρύτερος και κινείται προς
τα κάτω. Εκεί εμφανίζονται μεγαλύτερες τιμές της ατμοσφαιρικής
πίεσης. Ο αέρας τίθεται σε κίνηση δημιουργώντας άνεμο από τις
περιοχές υψηλότερης πίεσης προς τις περιοχές χαμηλότερης πίεσης.
Οι επιφάνειες σε κάθε σημείο των οποίων η ατμοσφαιρική πίεση

This is the force applied on the air due to differences in
atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure is not
constant around the globe. This is due to the inhomogeneous heating of the planet. There are warmer and cooler
parts in the globe. The air at the warmer parts is lighter
and rises forming low pressure areas. The opposite is
observed at the cooler parts; the air there is heavier and
moves downwards creating high pressure areas. Due to
these pressure differences the air starts moving creating
wind that blows from the high pressure areas towards the
low pressure areas. The surfaces every point of which has
the same value of atmospheric pressure are called isobaric
surfaces. The section between an isobaric surface and the
surface corresponding to the mean sea level pressure
(where we consider that the altitude is zero) or a surface
at any other altitude is called an isobaric line (Figure 1).The
denser the isobaric lines are over an area the higher the
pressure difference is and therefore the higher the wind
speed is expected to be in this area.

Παρουσία στελεχών της επιχειρηματικής και ναυπηγικής
σκηνής πραγματοποιήθηκε η απονομή των νικητών της
αγωνιστικής σαιζόν του μηχανοκίνητου ναυταθλητισμού. Σε
εορταστικό κλίμα και με πολλές δόσεις αισιοδοξίας η ανώτατη
αρχή, η UIM και το επιτελείο της, βράβευσε τους αθλητές και
τις ομάδες. Σε παράλληλο χρόνο απένειμε τα ειδικά βραβεία
σε εταιρείες και προσωπικότητες του χώρου για την περιβαλλοντική προσέγγιση. Στο ίδιο πλαίσιο έγιναν και οι επίσημες
ανακοινώσεις και οι στόχοι την Ένωσης για το μέλλον που
θέλει να είναι σε χρώμα πράσινο. Εφικτό; Θα δείξει. Ωστόσο η
πρόθεση από μόνη της έχει πρόσημο θετικό.

The awards were presented to the winners of water
motorsports racing season in the presence of members
of the business and boat building community. In a festive
atmosphere, full of positive thinking, UIM, the Union
Internationale Motonautique, awarded the athletes and clubs
via its team of executive members. At the same time, special
prizes were given to companies and personalities for their
“green” approach. Equally, official announcements were made
and the Union’s “green” future goals were presented. Is this,
however, feasible? I guess, we’ll see, but even having such
intentions is a positive step forward.
The UIM Environmental Award
Για 3η συνεχόμενη χρονιά, το βραβείο για το περιβάλλον. Τα
κριτήρια περιλαμβάνουν καινοτομία, σωστή περιβαλλοντική
διαχείριση, περιορισμένη κατανάλωση. Εφέτος την διάκριση έλαβε το Azimut Magellano 50. Στο ίδιο πλαίσιο αλλά
για πρώτη φορά διακρίσεις έλαβαν 3 εταιρείες για την ορθή
συμπεριφορά και μελέτη των προϊόντων με φιλικές τεχνικές
προς το περιβάλλον. H αυστριακή Frauscher, από τα πρώτα
ναυπηγεία που παρουσίασαν σκάφος με υβριδικό κινητήρα,
για την έρευνα και ανάπτυξη στο τομέα των «πράσινων» τεχνολογιών στη ναυπηγική. Ειδική μνεία έλαβε η αμερικάνικη
Mercury η οποία από το 1997 έχει να επιδείξει μια σειρά από
δράσεις σχετικά με την βελτίωση των εκπομπών στους κινητήρες της με σημείο αναφοράς τον UIM F-4S low Emissions.
Διάκριση έλαβε και το project Planet Solar, το catamaran που
ταξίδεψε γύρω από τον κόσμο με ηλιακή ενέργεια η οποία
αποθηκεύεται σε κυψέλες των 537 τ.μ. Τέλος κατά τη διάρκεια
δόθηκε το βραβείο S.Casiraghi Memorial Trophy στην Η2Ο για
την συνεισφορά στην διοργάνωση και προβολή των αγώνων
ενώ εκπρόσωποι από club τιμήθηκαν για την προσπάθεια και
συμμετοχή.

The main panel speakers were the president of UIM, Rafaelle
Chiulli, the general secretary, Andrea Dini, and guest
speakers such as Andrea Frauscher, of the famous boatbuilders, Francesco Ansalone, Marketing Director of Azimut
Benett, Dr. Pascal Goulpié, CEO of Planet Solar.

The environmental award, whose criteria include innovation,
proper environmental management and limited consumption,
was presented for the third consecutive year. This year the
distinction was given to Azimut Magellano 50. Notably, this
was the first time distinctions were given to three companies
for their correct attitude and study of products following
eco-friendly techniques. The Austrian Frauscher were one
of the first boat builders to present boats with hybrid motors
and they were awarded for their R&D in the field of “green”
technologies in boat building. Special acknowledgements
were given to the American Mercury which, since 1997,
have undertaken a series of initiatives on the reduction of
engine emissions. The point of reference here was UIM F-4S
low Emissions. Another distinction was awarded to project
Planet Solar, the catamaran that travelled round the world
on solar energy stored in 537m2 cells. During the event
the S.Casiraghi Memorial Trophy was awarded to Η2Ο for
their contribution to the organisation of the event and the
promotion of the races. Finally, the club representatives were
honoured for their efforts and participation.

H Cap Camarat δανείζεται το όνομα της από τον ομώνυμο κάβο στη Νότια Γαλλία.
Πρόκειται για μια από επιτυχημένες σειρές του γαλλικούς ναυπηγείου Jeanneau
Chantier Naval. Τα CC έκαναν την εμφάνιση τους το 1981 προκαλώντας αίσθηση
και σημειώνοντας μια μεγάλη εμπορική επιτυχία. Σήμερα τα σκάφη της εν λόγω
σειράς προσφέρονται σε δύο εκδόσεις όπως προδίδει και το λογότυπο δίπλα στην
ταυτότητα του μοντέλου, σε Open και σε Walk Around.

τη Μεσόγειο και απευθύνεται σε ένα κοινό με ενδιαφέρον για ταξίδια μικρής

Cap Camarat has been given the name of a cape in South France and is one of
the successful series of Jeanneau Chantier Naval, the French boat builders. The
CCs made their first stunning appearance in 1981 and they soon became a huge
commercial success. Today, the boats of this range are available in two versions
-which is easy to figure out if you take a look at the logo next to the model’s IDOpen and Walk Around.

Jeanneau Cap Camarat 8.5 WA measures 8.15m in LOA and 2.98m in beam.
She belongs to a very popular class in the Mediterranean, the day cruisers, and
addresses the needs of those interested in short range cruises and daily trips.
The design is the result of the cooperation of Jeanneau’s technical office with the
Sarazin Design team. Simple lines and no extravagance, an efficient hull coupled
with the good performance of the single or twin Yamaha motors (optional)
installed at the transom.

Taking a panoramic look at the boat on the main deck
we find a comfortable sofa and a centrally located
cockpit with a wide and practical console and two comfy
adjustable seats. The console features easy-to-read
instruments and provides excellent visibility whereas
protection from the spay and wind is secured thanks
to the screen that extends round the cockpit. The side
decks lead safely to the foredeck where the stainless
protective rails meet. Right at the bow we find the anchor
hatch. There is ample free space at the foredeck which
can be transformed into a large sun bed by just adding
some pillows and cushions.

Atlantis 44. She is the creation of Marco Biaggi and Filippo Salvetti’s
design studios. This designing couple has cooperated for many years on
successful projects of Officina Italiana Design and we remember them
from the Riva boats. The new shape was given the name NeoDesign and
in Genoa we had the pleasure to see and talk to the design team right
in front of the new boats. “The Atlantis boats are beautiful and elegant
but this time we were given the opportunity to work on the details and
bring out more intensely their best features” were the words of Filippo
Salvetti who looked happy with the result. “We made some changes,
mainly stylistic, on the deck based on our experience and the know-how
we have acquired from previous projects in the Open category”. This
year the Italian Atlantis enjoys a fresh air of rejuvenation thanks to the
cooperation with the top designers and the two new models that joined
their range, Atlantis 48 and Atlantis 44.

Atlantis 44 belongs to the Open category and measures 13.43m
LOA and 4.25 m in beam. According to her certificate she can
accommodate up to 12 passengers (Class B). The engine house
hosts twin motors by Cummins (QSD 4.2) generating a total of
1400hp capable of reaching 35 knots while, according to the boat

To σκάφος έχει άνετους και καλοσχεδιασμένους χώρους. Η
επαφή που είχαμε δια ζώσης στο σαλόνι μας έδωσε εικόνα
για το επίπεδο της διαβίωσης. Πρύμα ένα μεγάλο και άνετο
sun bed, επένδυση ξυλείας teak, πολυμορφικές εναλλαγές
που εξυπηρετούν τον χρήστη, όπως η πλάτη του καναπέ.
Στο κέντρο είναι στημένος ένα κοινωνικός χώρος με καναπέ
και τραπέζι φαγητού ή σνακ ή ποτού ανάλογα με τη διάθεση. Το ξύλινο τραπέζι έχει αυξομειούμενο ύψος, και είναι
αναδιπλούμενο. Πλησίον είναι το wet bar στο κάτω μέρος
του οποίου είναι αποθηκευτικός χώρος ή ψυγείο ανάλογα
με τις προτιμήσεις. Πλώρα είναι το πιλοτήριο, μοντέρνο και
καλαίσθητο με πληρότητα στα όργανα και καλή ορατότητα.
Το Hard Top είναι ανοιγόμενο έτσι ώστε να δίνει αίσθηση
open κατ’ επιλογή.
The boat has comfortable and well-designed areas. The
tour of the boat we were offered at the Boat Show gave us
an idea of the lifestyle followed here. At the stern there is
a large and comfy sun bed, with teak wood flooring and
multi-purpose features to serve the user’s needs, such
as the sofa’s back. At the centre there is a socialising area
with a sofa and a dining, snack or drinks table to suit every
occasion. The wooden table has adjustable height and can
be folded. Close by we find the wet bar which, at the lower
part, provides room for storage or a fridge, whatever you
prefer. At the foredeck we find the modern cockpit featuring
top aesthetics, all necessary navigation instruments and
good visibility. The Hard Top is retractable so as to create
the sense of an open boat as an option.

Overall, the boat has two cabins. The owner’s cabin is almost
centrally located taking up the full beam (4.25 m) and featuring a
private bathroom, various storage areas, a dressing room and an
entertainment system. At the bow we find the Vip Cabin with a double
bed and another private bathroom. In between there is the wellequipped galley and the sitting room. Another important feature is the
table. It can be lowered down and then special pillows can be put in to
transform it into a double bed which sleeps two more people.

This is the result of the cooperation of the R&D
department of Centro Stile boat builders – under
the supervision of founder Norberto Ferretti- of
AYT [Advanced Yacht Technology] and Studio
Zuccon International Project.
The concept
Vip Cabin
Starting with Ferretti 800 and aiming at
harmoniously combining the traditional with the
contemporary, the ostentatious with the austere,
the team of the Italian boat builders presented the
new Ferretti 720 at the beginning of the season
and, more specifically, at the major Genoa Boat
Show. “We wanted to create a boat for this category
keeping the classic lines but giving a more modern
look to satisfy the younger owners who wish to
enjoy the comforts of this scale through a more
sporty approach”, said Alessandro Tirelli, Brand
Manager of Ferretti.
Το νέο σκάφος έχει ολικό μήκος 21,79 μέτρα και μέγιστο
πλάτος στα 5.70 μέτρα. Το εκτόπισμα είναι στους 56.90 τόνους
πλήρες φόρτου και το βύθισμα στα 1,85 μέτρα. Φέρει πιστοποιητικό σχεδιασμού κατηγορίας «A» και δυνατότητα μεταφοράς έως και 20 άτομα. Ο σχεδιασμός έχει σπορ στοιχεία
με επιθετικές γραμμές με ξεχωριστό στοιχείο το roll bar. Ένα
επίσης ιδιαίτερο στοιχείο είναι ο σχεδιασμός των γυάλινων
επιφανειών που προάγουν μια πιο μοντέρνα σιλουέτα.
The new boat measures 21.79 m in LOA and 5.70m
in beam. Her displacement is 56.90 tons when fully
loaded and her draught is 1.85m. According to the “A”
category design certificate it can carry up to 20 people.
The design is generally characterised by sporty
elements and aggressive lines whereas the key feature
is the roll bar. Another special feature are the glass
surfaces that add to a more modern silhouette.
On Board
Με μεγάλο και άνετο πρυμναίο καθιστικό, ξύλινο τραπέζι,
αποθηκευτικούς χώρους και προστασία από την προέκταση της υπερκατασκευή. Αναφορικά με τους εξωτερικούς
χώρους, το δυνατό σημείο του εντοπίζεται στο επανασχεδιασμένο και καλά μελετημένο fly bridge. Εδώ είναι και ο
κοινωνικός χώρος που συγκεντρώνει το πλήθος των επιβατών. Συγκεκριμένα διαθέτει γωνιακό καναπέ με τραπέζι
φαγητού, wet bar και barbecue ενώ προς πλώρη είναι το
πληρέστατο πιλοτήριο από το οποίο έχει απεριόριστη θέα.
Κατά του θερινού μήνες, ο κυβερνήτης εκτελεί όλους του
χειρισμούς από εδώ.

At the aft there is a large and comfortable sitting area
with a wooden table and plenty of stowage room.
This area is protected thanks to the projection of
the superstructure. As regards the exterior, the real
advantage is the redesigned and well-planned fly bridge.
This is the socializing area that attracts most of the
passengers. More specifically, it features a corner sofa
with a dining table, wet bar and barbecue. Towards the
bow we find the fully equipped helm station that offers an
incredible view. During the summer months, the skipper
does all the steering from up here.
Engines
Για την πρόωση προσφέρονται επιλογές με συνθέσεις σε ζεύγη από
την MTU με ισχύ τους 2x1381 ίππους με την Μ92 ή την M93 με ισχύ
τους 2x1524 ίππους και επιδόσεις που φτάνουν στους 31 ή 33,5
κόμβους αντίστοιχα σύμφωνα με τις μετρήσεις του ναυπηγείου.
Several options are available in terms of propulsion: combinations
with twin MTU motors generating 2x1381 hp with the Μ92 or the
M93 generating 2x1524 hp. The boat can reach 31 or 33.5 knots
respectively according to the boat builder’s measurements.
Inside
To main deck είναι αφιερωμένου στους κοινωνικούς χώρους του σκάφους, μεγάλο σαλόνι με
πλούσιο φυσικό φωτισμό - λόγω των γυάλινων
πλευρικών επιφανειών-, και τραπεζαρία για 8
άτομα. Προς την πλώρη είναι το πιλοτήριο με την
μοντέρνα κονσόλα, πλούσια ξύλινη επένδυση στα
επιμέρους και ιταλικό αφαιρετικό σχεδιασμό. Στο
lower deck συναντάμε τις 4 συνολικά καμπίνες
για τους φιλοξενούμενους. Στο κέντρο βρίσκεται
η Master με ιδιωτικό λουτρό, αποθηκευτικούς χώρους, καλό φωτισμό από τα μεγάλα φινιστρίνια και
δάπεδο επενδυμένο με ξύλο teak. Ακολούθως είναι
δύο δίδυμες καμπίνες με μονά κρεβάτια, αμφότερες
με ιδιωτικό λουτρό ενώ κατάπλωρα είναι η Vip με
διπλό κρεβάτι και μπάνιο.

The main deck is dedicated to the boat’s
socializing areas, a large living room with ample
natural light – thanks to the glass panels at the
sides- and a dining area that seats 8 people.
Towards the bow, we find the helm station with
the modern console, lush wood panelling and
Italian minimalism. On the lower deck we find
the 4 cabins for the guests. At the centre there
is the Master cabin with a private bathroom,
storage areas, ample lighting coming in from
the large portholes and teak wood flooring.
There are two more twin cabins with single
beds, both with a private bathroom while right
at the bow there is the Vip cabin with a double

επιστήμονες με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον και εμπειρία στην άσκηση ιατρικής σε πλοία και σκάφη,
την ιατρική υποδομή πού απαιτείται, τα συνηθέστερα συμβάμματα και πως αντιμετωπίζονται,
την προφύλαξη και προστασία επιβατών και πληρωμάτων ποντοπόρων πλοίων και σκαφών
αναψυχής από επιδημικά νοσήματα και τις ακραίες καιρικές συνθήκες, την ιατρική της υποβρύχιας δραστηριότητας και της νόσου των δυτών.
Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το Ελληνικό και παγκόσμιο ενδιαφέρον για τον τουρισμό και ναυτιλία ,
θεωρούμε την προσπάθεια των μελών του ΕΛΕΝΤΙ σημαντική στην συνεχιζόμενη εκπαίδευση και ενημέρωση της ιατρικής κοινότητας στο τομέα αυτό , στους ασχολούμενους επαγγελματικά και ψυχαγωγικά με τις θαλάσσιες δραστηριότητες σε στελέχη ναυτιλιακών εταιρειών

What’s more, medical services in the remote islands
of the archipelago are still inadequate whereas several
dozens of fellowmen and visitors lose their lives every
year in accidents occurring while swimming, scuba diving
or doing water-sports. Along with the frequent work
accidents in ports and ship yards, the sea holds its own
share in a different type of medicine that requires special
skills and knowledge, special equipment and means.
The Hellenic Society of Maritime and Travel Medicine
The Hellenic Society of Maritime and Travel Medicine (ELENTI)
were recently established to promote Maritime Medicine in
Greece and thus protect the health of people serving, working
or traveling on board vessels. Furthermore, the society
aim at expanding the knowledge of doctors and, generally,
health professionals in: medical equipment, medical care
for passengers and crew at sea, submarine medicine and
decompression sickness (the bends), preventive medicine for
passengers and crews travelling to destinations with special
climatic and sanitary conditions, medical care services in
the islands near the borders, the Greek and international
legislation regarding the practice of medicine on board
vessels and, finally, the study of Maritime history.

At the heart of the body of members there are the doctors of the Greek Navy who have a rich
working experience in practising medicine “on board”. They have been joined by doctors of all
specializations and scientists with a special interest and experience in the following fields: practising
medicine on board ships and boats, getting the necessary medical equipment, the most common
medical cases and how to treat them, preventing and protecting passengers and crews on board
ocean-going ships and leisure boats from epidemic diseases and extreme weather conditions,
submarine medicine and the decompression disease.
Taking into account the Greek and worldwide interest in tourism and traveling at sea, we consider
the efforts made by the members of ELENTI highly important for the ongoing training and updating
of the medical community as well as the people who are engaged in marine activities professionally
or recreationally, executives and crews working for shipping companies of the Hellenic Merchant
Marine (as part of their professional training) and, finally, the Greek tourism and shipping services.

Πως βλέπεις το επίπεδο του ανταγωνισμού;
Το VOR είναι πολύ ανταγωνιστικό, αλλά χρειάζονται διαφορετικές αξίες για να κερδίσεις από
ότι στια άλλες κλάσεις. Παρόλο που κι αυτό είναι
ένας ωκεανοπόρος αγώνας γύρω από τον κόσμο,
περιλαμβάνει και τα κομμάτια του inshore αλλά
κυρίως το συντονισμό πολλών ανθρώπων.
Πως βλέπει η Groupama τη συμμετοχή της για
πρώτη φορά στο VOR;
Η Groupama είναι πολύ ευχαριστημένη. Νέες
επιχειρηματικές ευκαιρίες έχουν ανοιχτεί
διεθνώς. Ελπίζουμε στο επόμενο VOR να δούμε
περισσότερες συμμετοχές από τη Γαλλία. Παρόλο
που κι εμείς έχουμε ακόμα να μάθουμε πολλά,
είμαστε πρόθυμοι να μεταφέρουμε όποια τεχνογνωσία έχουμε αποκτήσει και σε άλλους.
Πως είναι η οργάνωση μιας ομάδας για το VOR;
Ευτυχώς είχα την ευκαιρία επιλογής των
συνεργατών μου και επίσης τη δυνατότητα να
φτιάξω το οργανόγραμμα. Θέλαμε μία μίξη
σταθερών συνεργατών από τη Γαλλία με άλλους διεθνείς που είχαν εμπειρία από το VOR.
Νομίζω ότι αυτή η συνταγή ήταν επιτυχημένη.
You have a great ocean sailing experience. Do you feel
comfortable with the VO70?
It is the same philosophy for the sailing part, but so
much different in other aspects, such as the teamwork,
the boat handle, the race format, etc. We have the same
spirit as a team, we try to be motivated. We still learn
new things though. The crew is cooperating very well,
as well as the designers team. For me it was difficult
that I had to deal with not only French people and not
only with people I knew before. And we did not had too
much time at our hands.
Έχεις μεγάλη εμπειρία από τους ωκεανούς. Πως σου φαίνεται το
σκάφος VO70;
Από ιστιοπλοϊκής πλευράς είναι η ίδια φιλοσοφία, αλλά ταυτόχρονα
πολύ διαφορετικό σε άλλα θέματα, όπως η ομαδική εργασία που απαιτεί, οι χειρισμοί του σκάφους, το είδος του αγώνα, κτλ. Έχουμε το ίδιο
ομαδικό πνεύμα και προσπαθούμε να έχουμε το ίδιο υψηλό ηθικό όπως
πάντα. Βέβαια, ακόμα μαθαίνουμε. Η συνεργασία του πληρώματος είναι
πολύ καλή, όπως και η συνεργασία με την ομάδα των σχεδιαστών. Για
εμένα ήταν δύσκολο γιατί έπρεπε να δουλέψω και με ανθρώπους που
δεν ήξερα και δεν είχαμε πολύ χρόνο για να συντονιστούμε.
Πως βλέπεις το σκάφος VO70 σε σχέση με τα IMOCA και τα
ORMA;
Το VOR έχει πολύ αυστηρούς κανόνες στη σχεδίαση των σκαφών προκειμένου τα σκάφη να είναι ισοδύναμα. Δεν υπάρχουν
ακραίες σχεδιάσεις έτσι όμως είναι φτηνότερα και πιο ασφαλή.
Οι άλλες είναι ανοιχτές κλάσεις, που παράγουν πολύ καινοτόμα
σκάφη. Εκεί ο στόχος είναι να ανακαλύψεις κάτι καινούργιο που
θα αυξήσει την ταχύτητα του σκάφους.
How do you see the VO70 boats compared to IMOCA or
ORMA?
VOR has a very closed box rule in order to have the
boats as close as possible. They are not very extreme
but they are less expensive and safer. The other are
open classes, they have radical developments. The
target is to breakthrough, aiming for speed.

How do you see the competition compared to
other classes?
VOR is very competitive race, but you need to
have different values to win, than the ORMA and
other open class events. It is still ocean crossing,
but also has the part of the inshore racing and
the teamwork.
How does Groupama feel about entering a race
such as VOR?
Groupama is very happy. New opportunities have
opened worldwide. Maybe and hopefully in the
next VOR there will be more French entries. We
all will be happy to transfer all our experience.
We still learn but other people can learn from us.
How was it to organize a team for VOR?
I get to choose the people and create the basic
organization structure. We wanted to mix the
French crew with the international guys that
had experience in VOR. And I think it worked
really well.

εσένα;
Το επίπεδο του επαγγελματισμού είναι το ίδιο υψηλό αν όχι και υψηλότερο, μιας και το VOR περιλαμβάνει και τον κίνδυνο της ανθρώπινης ζωής.
Απαιτεί συνεχή προετοιμασία και συγκεκριμένο υγιεινό τρόπο ζωής όχι
μόνο κατά τη διάρκεια του αγώνα, αλλά συνεχώς. Παρόλο που τα σκέλη
είναι χιλιάδες μίλια, ένα μικρό λάθος μπορεί να στοιχίσει τη νίκη.
Πόσο σημαντική είναι για το χορηγό η νίκη;
Εξαρτάται από το χορηγό. Γενικά πάντως, σε τόσο μεγάλες διοργανώσεις, αυτό που μετράει είναι η δημοσιότητα που παίρνει το όνομά του,
ανεξαρτήτως από την έκβαση του αγώνα. Για παράδειγμα όταν χάσαμε
το άλμπουρο στο πρώτο σκέλος του αγώνα, το γεγονός αυτό πήρε τόση
δημοσιότητα που ξεπέρασε αυτή του νικητή του πρώτου σκέλους.
Φυσικά αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν θέλουμε να τερματίζουμε πρώτοι
ή αναζητούμε άλλους τρόπους για να τραβούμε τα φώτα της δημοσιότητας πάνω μας, αλλά εμπορικά, στο τέλος της ημέρας, αυτός που
επενδύει χρήματα στην ομάδα, θέλει να δει τι λαμβάνει πίσω.

Race. What does this mean to you?
The level of professionalism of the sailor is
the same, if not higher, because of the risk of
human life. Constant diet and workout is all year
round, not only for the race. Although the legs
are thousands of miles, a small mistake can
cost a position on the podium.
Is it important for the sponsor only to get a
first or second place?
It really depends on the sponsor. When we
had the incident with the mast in the first
leg, we created so much publicity that really
attracted more media attention than finishing
first. Not that we don’t want to end up first, but
commercially it is the size of media attention
that interests the sponsor!

Έχοντας εμπειρία από τρεις συμμετοχές στο America’s Cup και άλλες τρεις στο

Why is the America’s Cup more important to the USA
than Volvo Ocean Race?
Being in 3 America’s Cups and 3 Volvos, I can tell you
that the Volvo is far more enjoyable. It is exciting and
crazy. It has easier funding, it is cheaper and more
interesting, as it has the sense of adventure that
everybody understands. So the Volvo has a larger base
while the America’s Cup is more elite.

Πιστεύω ότι είναι πολύ ευχαριστημένοι. Εμείς, από την πλευρά μας προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε τη δουλειά μας όσο καλύτερα μπορούμε. Και η δουλειά μας
είναι να βοηθούμε την PUMA να πουλάει τα προϊόντα της, όπως και την Berg,
αλλά πρωτίστως να έχουμε μία αξιοπρεπή εμφάνιση στον αγώνα. Όπως είπα, το
σημαντικό για τον επενδυτή είναι να δώσει μεγάλη αξία στα χρήματά του μέσα
από την προβολή στα ΜΜΕ κι αυτό εμείς μπορούμε να το πετύχουμε με το να
έχουμε ενδιαφέρουσες ιστορίες μέσα από το σκάφος. Η εμπορική πλευρά της
ιστιοπλοΐας είναι εξαιρετικά σημαντική, διότι χωρίς αυτή δεν θα ήταν εφικτές
διοργανώσεις του επιπέδου του Volvo Ocean Race.
Is PUMA willing to continue their campaign in the VOR?
I think they are happy about it. We do our best to
do our job right. And this job is to sell PUMA items,
Berg propellers and of course to win the race. As I
said the important thing here is the exposure to the
media, and how you create interesting stories out
of everyday life. The commercial side of sailing is
very important, because without the firms investing
there could be no Ocean Race.

Φυσικά. Προτεραιότητα για την ομάδα είναι να περνάμε καλά και μετά η νίκη

σημαντική, αλλά είναι μέρος της φιλοσοφίας της ομάδας να το διασκεδάζουμε,

You really seem to enjoy the offshore legs, I mean in
Greece at least people think you are happy and also
thus unstoppable.
This is very true. Our priority is to have fun and the win
will come. We do pay attention to the business side of
our race, but you can race having a good time.

Η PUMA έχει ανακοινώσει ότι θα συνεργαστεί με την ORACLE Racing για το
America’s Cup. Η PUMA πιστεύει ότι η ιστιοπλοΐα είναι ένα πολύ σημαντικό άθλημα. Δεν έχουν ανακοινώσει ακόμα επίσημα αν θα συνεχίσουν την

Would you return to Volvo if PUMA does not?
PUMA has announced they will be key partner to
ORACLE Racing. PUMA thinks sailing is a very
important sport. They have not decided yet if they
are returning to next Volvo, but they surely are
committed to sailing.

Προετοιμασία
Ζεσταίνουμε το γάλα, τις φλούδες των εσπεριδοειδών, και την
κανέλα σε μέτρια φωτιά μέχρι να πάρει βράση. Αποσύρουμε
από τη φωτιά και αφήνουμε για 15’ να πάρει γεύση.
Χτυπάμε τους κρόκους αυγών, τη ζάχαρη και το κορνφλάουρ.
Σιγά-σιγά ρίχνουμε το γάλα και να τα βάζουμε σε μέτρια
φωτιά. Ανακατεύουμε με μια σπάτουλα και ζεσταίνουμε μέχρι
να πήξει η κρέμα. Σουρώνουμε και ρίχνουμε σε 6 πιάτα την
κρέμα. Βάζουμε στο ψυγείο για 2 ώρες.
Ραντίζουμε με 1 κουταλιά ζάχαρη κάθε κρέμα και στο
προθερμασμένο γκριλ βάζουμε για να καραμελώσει η
ζάχαρη. Αφαιρέστε και σερβίρουμε.
Heat the milk, citrus peels, and cinnamon stick over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and
let steep for 15 minutes to infuse the flavors.
Whisk egg yolks, sugar and cornstarch together. Slowly
add the milk and return to medium-low heat. Stir constantly with a spatula to avoid the eggs from scrambling.
Heat slowly until the cream thickens. Strain and pour into 6
custard dishes. Place in the fridge for 2 hours to set.
Before serving, pre-heat the broiler. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon
sugar over each custard evenly. Place the dishes under the
broiler on the top shelf and allow the sugar to caramelize,
turning golden brown. Be very careful at this stage as the
sugar will be very hot and will easily blister your skin if it
comes in contact.
Remove and serve immediately.

Το σχήμα του είναι αρκετά φρέσκο και σίγουρα όχι τόσο ρηξικέλευθο ή αν θέλετε εκκεντρικό όσο του άμεσου ανταγωνιστή του, του Nissan Juke. Το σίγουρο είναι ότι παρά τη
σύγχρονη εμφάνιση του, το Mokka υποδηλώνει άμεσα την εταιρική του ταυτότητα, ιδίως
από μπροστά όπου διατηρούνται χαρακτηριστικά στοιχεία της εταιρείας όπως η μάσκα

Its quite fresh design is definitely not as ground-breaking or eccentric as its direct rival,
Nissan Juke. What’s undoubtable, though, is that despite the modern looks, Mokka
puts forth its corporate identity, especially at the front where we can easily identify
the brand’s characteristic features, such as the grille and the lights as well as the rear
lights that remind us of the Corsa.
Moreover, the blades on the bodyside, the window frame and the characteristic rear
window make for a beautiful body, whereas the unpainted parts give the necessary
off-road quality to this model.

Measuring 4.28 metres in length, it features a quite satisfactory 1,372 lt storage
space (fold-down rear seat). The 19 storage locations of the interior along with the
Flex-Fix bicycle carrier -already featured in the other Opel models- add to this

mentioned engines, a 6-speed automatic transmission.
