About us
Jun Chong Martial Arts has been the number one traditional martial arts
academy in Los Angeles since 1972. We teach selpf defense classes in Tae
Kwon Do, Hapkido, Kick Boxing, and Jiu Jitsu 7 days a week, with an extended
schedule to fit everyone's needs. Little Tiger classes give toddlers ages 3 & up
a fun foundation in martial arts, and develops focus, fitness, and respect.
Older kids also learn self-confidence, discipline, and real life self defense skills.

Grandmaster Jun Chong

Jun Chong was born in South Korea and began learning Tae Kwon Do at the age of 8.
Though innately shy, he eventually progressed to winning national and international
competitions and knew early on that martial arts would be a very important part of his
life. He immersed himself in various forms of styles including Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Judo, Aikido, and
boxing.
As a perpetual learner, Grandmaster Chong has never stopped his training in Tae Kwon Do. He can be
found teaching classes every day or advancing his expertise in Kendo, Iaido, Aikido, Escrima, and Jiu Jitsu.

James Goller began training Kempo Karate with the Ed Parker system at age 5 and Tae
Kwon Do at age 15 with the legendary Master Hee Il Cho, receiving his brown belt at age 18. He has been
training with Grandmaster Jun Chong since 1982 received his black belt in 1991. He has competed in
numerous local and international tournaments, was featured in the LA Times and various martial arts
magazines, and has studied numerous weapons including escrima and nunchuks and Kendo. As the owner
of the Martial Arts Center, Master Goller’s teaching specialties are with children and those with special
needs. His classes focus on the curriculum work while being fun and giving personalized attention to each
student. He is a daily mountain bike rider, three time marathoner, has over 50 open water scuba dives,
Iyengar and Chinese Yoga student, and a black diamond skiier. He is the father of Elsie and Stephen Goller.
Master Armen Safarian
3rd dan Black belt Tae Kwon Do
3rd dan Hapkido
Mr. Safarian trained at Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do for 6 years when he received his black
belt in 1999. He fought on the black belt team who won gold in sparring at our local
tournaments for 4 years before moving to Colorado. He taught martial arts for several
years at an affiliated school before returning to Los Angeles early 2010. Students enjoy
Mr. Safarian’s class because he brings out their “fire and spirit” while also providing a great workout and
good sparring skills.
Master Greg Williams

Grag Williams began Martial Arts training with Chuck Norris in 1972. When Grand
Master Jun Chong took-over Master Norris’ Wilshire Tang Soo Do dojang Master
Williams stayed and became first Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do Black-Belt in 1975 Currently a
7th Dan Black Belt, Grandmaster Williams has co taught the Saturday morning Black Belt Class since the
mid 80's and teaches Tai chi at 7:30 Am at the Santa Monica Branch. He is the father of Master Mason and
Shelby Williams, both accomplished Black Belts and instructors with Jun Chong Tae Kwon do. His motto is:

Master Daniel Dvorsky
5th dan Black Belt Tae Kwon Do
5th dan Hapkido
Daniel Dvorsky began the study of Tae Kwon Do at age 15 in the East Bay under Jimmy C.
Kim and later with Master Byong Yu. As an undergrad at USC, he studied on Master
Chong Lee receiving his 1st degree Black Belt in May 1982. Master Dvorsky ran the USC
TKD Club from 1980 to 1983, returning to LA in 1984 and began training and teaching with Grandmaster
Jun Chong. Master Dvorsky's influences include Grandmaster B.H.Chong, Chong Lee, Phillip and Simon Rhee,
Greg Williams, Dan Gibson, Ken Nagayama, Nick King, and many others before being acknowledged as 5th
Degree Black Belt. Master Dvorsky has been teaching the Saturday morning Black belt class for over the
mid 80's at Jun Chong Tae Kwon do and teaches and oversees the 7:30AM morning classes as well. Married
with two great sons, Master Dvorsky is active in many activities including weight lifting, core training,
surfing, trail running, snow boarding, and active yoga.
Master Dexter Parker
4th dan black belt Tae Kwon Do

Master Parker received his black belt in 1979 and has continued to teach, compete, and
train since then. His martial arts knowledge includes his many years of Tae Kwon Do and
Hapkido (4th dan), Escrima, Jeet Kun Do (level 2), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Iaido. He is best
known for his killer workouts and powerful skills in sparring. Master Parker strives to reach the full
potential of every student and ensure that every class challenging, fun, and a great workout.
Master Phillip Herbst
3rd dan Black Belt Tae Kwon Do
3rd dan Hapkido
Phillip Herbst has Trained in the Jun Chong system for over 20 years and has competed
in many tournaments fighting as an individual and a team leader. Mr. Herbst is an avid
Surfer and trail runner with a love of nature and the outdoors. His classes emphasis
training and conditioning which focuses on perfect kicking, balance and stamina. He has been teaching the
7:30 AM classes since 1996.
Master Spencer Groh
1st dan Black belt Tae Kwon Do
Hapkido
Mr. Groh started training at the Martial Arts Center when we was just 7 years old. He
received his black belt in 2006 and immediately became a teacher’s assistant for all
children's classes because he works so well with kids. Mr. Groh believes in good
fundamentals and basic techniques and knows that all students can benefit from the focus developed
through martial arts.
Master Natasha Nemanim
1st dan Black belt Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido
It was 4th grade when Ms. Nemanim started her first Tae Kwon Do class at the Martial
Arts Center. She received her black belt in 2003 and shortly thereafter began teaching
the children’s classes. Her favorite activity to teach is forms (“hyungs”) as she believes
everything Tae Kwon Do is hidden in them. Her fondest memories of the Martial Arts Center has been when
she was the captain of the Demo Team and being a competitor and referee at our annual tournaments.
Master Stephen Howison
1st dan Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido
Black belt since 1994,
Teaching Since 2009.
Stephen Howison has trained with Jun Chong Martial Arts since he was in 1st grade at
the Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do, North Hollywood branch. He comes from a family of black
belts including his mother Diane, and his 2 sisters Heather and Caitlin. He was a member
of the North Hollywood Demo team and has also trained in weapons including Escrima, Iaido, and various
other weapons. He received his black belt in Taekwondo and Hapkido in 1994 and began teaching at the
Wilshire school in 2009. Stephen is also involved in the military and trained in the Marine Corp Martial Arts
Program.
