• Seconda tappa: Assisi, km 127,8
Situata in posizione dominante sul fianco occidentale
del monte Subasio, è conosciuta per essere la cià in
cui nacquero, vissero e morirono san Francesco
patrono d'Italia e santa Chiara.
Principale sito francescano è il fulcro dei movimenti
pacifisti e meta quotidiana di pellegrinaggio da tui i
Paesi del mondo. Forte di un inestimabile patrimonio
artistico, tra cui basti ricordare la Basilica di San
Francesco con gli affreschi di Cimabue, Lorenzei e
Gioo, dal 2000 è formalmente protea dall’UNESCO
come patrimonio dell’umanità.

Celebre cià d'arte ricca di storia e monumenti, si
adagia su un’acropoli collinare a circa 450 metri s.l.m.
È un rilevante polo culturale ed economico e meta di
numerosi turisti e studenti. È sede di una delle più
antiche Università degli Studi della penisola (1308),
oltre che della maggiore Università per stranieri
d'Italia. Come uno scrigno proteo da una duplice
cinta muraria (etrusca e medievale), custodisce
autentici capolavori d’arte e architeura, come il
duecentesco Palazzo dei Priori, la Fontana Maggiore,
la caedrale di San Lorenzo.

The famous city of art, rich of the history and numerous monuments, is laid down on the hill at about 450 metres above
the sea level. It is an important cultural and economical centre, the destination of many tourists and students. One of the
most ancient universities of our peninsula – the University of Studies (founded in 1308) has the seat here, as well as the
biggest University for Strangers in Italy. Like a casket protected with double belt of walls (etruscan and medieval)
preserves the authentic masterpieces of art and architecture, such as the Palace of Priori (Palazzo dei Priori), the Great
Fountain (Fontana Maggiore), the St..Lawrence Cathedral.

Situataed in dominant position on the western slope of the Subasio mountain, it is known as the town where St.
Francesco, the Patron of Italy and St. Claire were born, lived and died.
The main Francescan site is the fulcrum of the pacifists movements and the daily destination of pilgrimage from the
countries of all over the world. Rich of an inestimable artistic heritage, among them it is enough to mention the
Basilica of Saint Francesco with the frescoes of Cimabue, Lorenzetti and Giotto. From the year 2000 it is formally
protect ed by Unesco as the patrimony of humanity.
