THE PROJECT
Vi capita mai di pensare a una pianta con
profondo senso di gratitudine, commozione,
affetto? L'uomo e la natura sono destinati,
da sempre, a incrociarsi ed evolversi, guidati
da un'affinità elettiva che talvolta emerge
spontaneamente, senza motivo apparente, altre
volte è radicata in un ricordo o circostanze
eccezionali.
Accade, semplicemente. Di fronte
a una pianta, ricordi e pensieri, d'improvviso,
possono generare emozioni ed empatia.
E non è curioso pensare che la situazione possa
essere reciproca? Che l'uomo sia destinatario
di attenzioni e sentimenti da parte della natura?
Natural Recall esplora le connessioni
e gli ingranaggi che muovono i rapporti
tra l'universo umano e quello vegetale.
Il progetto di comunicazione grafica
ha vocazione internazionale ed è promosso
da un gruppo di lavoro unito dall'obiettivo
di produrre pensieri e azioni attorno
ai temi sociali della cultura contemporanea.
Questa pubblicazione è soltanto uno
dei formati con i quali il progetto si esprime e
accompagna una mostra itinerante che
nel 2015 tocca alcuni dei Paesi di provenienza
degli autori visivi coinvolti. Ad ognuno
sono state poste alcune domande: Quale pianta
ami di più e che tipo di affinità hai con lei?
Che sensazioni provi quando hai una pianta
vicino a te? Quale vizio o virtù ti suggerisce?
Quale parola associ alla tua opera?
Completano la pubblicazione una sequenza
di testi sui temi che hanno mosso
la progettazione di Natural Recall. Architetti
del paesaggio, scrittori, musicisti, antropologi,
designer hanno contribuito utilizzando un altro
strumento – non l'immagine ma la parola –
e condiviso con noi le loro affinità elettive
con la natura e il regno vegetale.
Have you ever experienced a sense
of gratitude and profound feeling, kindness
and affection towards a plant? We believe that
man and nature have, from time immemorial,
intertwined and evolved, guided by a sort of
elective affinity. Affinities, which can manifest
itself spontaneously, with no apparent reason,
or, rooted in our fondest memories, borne out
of exceptional circumstances.
It simply happens: in the presence of a given
plant; recollections, mental associations
suddenly bring forth emotions and empathy.
And wouldn't it be curious to think that the
situation could be reciprocal? that we could
also be the object of attention and affection?
The international project Natural Recall wants
to explore the connection between humankind
and plants, research the inner workings
between the Animal and the Vegetable world.
The working members behind it all aim
to promote debate followed by action
on social issues of contemporary culture.
This publication is only one of the formats
the project uses and it accompanies a touring
exhibition which will touch down in some
of the native countries of its visual authors
in 2015. We have also asked the authors
a number of questions.
What is the name of the plant you love?
What kind of affinity do you have with that plant?
How does the plant make you feel? What kind
of vice or virtue does that plant suggest you?
And a free word, one of your choice that represents
your art work?
To finish, there are a series of texts on subjects
underpinning Natural Recall. Landscape
architects, writers, musicians, anthropologists
and designers have contributed through
another medium – not images but words –
and shared with us their elective affinities
with nature and plants.
