In consideration of the importance of HF Radar system and the
number of HF Radar sites among Asian countries increasing

rapidly. The purpose of 2nd ORCA addresses the goal of the 1st
ORCA, which aims at fostering international cooperation and
elevating international R & D capacity, and provides an exchange
platform for the countries in the entire Asia-Pacific Region in HF
radar community. About 100 researchers and scientists from 11
countries, such as USA, China, Australia, Canada, France, Korea,
Germany etc., have attended this conference, it indeed promoted an
international exchange of the practical experience and research
results from the Asia-Pacific region extending to worldwide.
Eventually, a prospect of pooling HF Ocean Radar resources and
facilitate international collaboration was brightening.
The Soya Warm Current (SWC) was continuously monitored by High
Frequency (HF) radar at the Soya/La Perouse Strait. To estimate the intensity
of the SWC, wind drift current needs to be removed from surface current. In
this study, wind drift parameters were calculated with HF radar data, ADCP

data, sea level data and wind data in three methods. With drift parameters,
wind drift currents were estimated and consistent with each other. After the
removal of the wind drift component from surface current, the along-shore
velocity of the SWC estimation was improved.
In this conference, it is an opportunity for me to know and communicate face
to face with the famous professors around the world, and to realize the

newest development and application of HF ocean radar in the world. In the
discussion with those professors, I obtained new knowledge about the future
of HF ocean radar.
In the presentation, it is a chance to examine the skill of language and talk,
and I found out the advantage and disadvantage in my presentation compared
with the other’s presentations. In extemporaneous questions, I received the
comments and suggestions from participators to pinpoint which part in my
research can be improved.

I had a great opportunity to discuss with famous professors, make friends
with student participators, and have technical tour to a radar station. Those
widened my mind to research, improved my skills of presentation, and
