The Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium is an academic meeting hosted by Mie University
(Japan), Chiang Mai University (Thailand) and Jiangsu University (China) in turn. Bogor Agricultural University
was newly added as one of the host universities from 2011.

Anniversary
From October 28 to November 1, the 20th Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium 2013 was held at
Mie University with around 140 participants from 20 universities in eight countries.
This year, the commemorative Seminar & Symposium was held in Mie University, who held the first Seminar
& Symposium.

2013年10月28日から11月1日まで、
三重大
学にて「第20回３大学国際ジョイントセミナー
＆シンポジウム2013」が開催され、
8か国20大
学から約140名が参加しました。
本年度は、
第1回の開催校である三重大学
第20回 3大学国際ジョイントセミナー＆シンポジウム2013
3大学国際ジョイントセミナー＆シンポジウムとは、
三重大学（日本）、
チェンマイ大学（タイ）、
江蘇大学（中国）
の3大学が交代でホストをしてい
る国際交流を兼ねた論文発表会です。2011年度からは新たにボゴール農科大学（インドネシア）がホスト校に加わり、
記念すべき第20回大会
が第1回の開催校でもある三重大学で開催されました。
Award Ceremony
It has been 20 years since the Tri-U International
Joint Seminar and Symposium started in 1993. In
order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this
great academic meeting for students, we express
our gratitude, who made a tremendous contribution
to the birth of this event.

Opening Ceremony
On October 29, the 20th Commemorative Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium went underway at
Sansui Hall.
Following the Opening Address by Prof. Atsumasa Uchida, the President of Mie University, the presidents of
founder universities: Chiang Mai University in Thailand, Jiangsu University in China, and a host member, Bogor
Agricultural University in Indonesia made the warmest congratulatory messages. In addition, Mr. Shigeharu
Kato, Director-General for International Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
and Ms. Michiko Suzuki, Executive Director, Student Exchange Department, Japan Student Services
Organization extended the heartiest congratulations to Mie University’

Lecture
Higher Education in the Age of Globalization
Commemorating the 20th anniversary,“Special Lecture”was held by Mr. Shigeharu Kato, Director-general for
International Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture Sports Science and Technology at Sansui Hall.
In the lecture, he talked about higher education in Japan with data. In addition, he introduced various
programs which are conducted. It was a wonderful lecture for the participants from many different countries to
know the globalization in Japan, Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium will encounter rapid change
and globalization for another decade.

国際化時代の高等教育
文部科学省国際統括官加藤重治氏による特別講演が、
三翠ホールに於いて開催されました。
特別講演では、
日本における高等教育への日本国政府の取り組みなど現状のデータを交えて講演
江蘇大学長、
2011年度からホストメンバー校に加わったボゴール農科大学長から祝辞が述
いただきました。
また、
実際に行われているプログラムの目的や概要にも触れ、
3大学国際ジョイントセミナー
べられました。
また、
第20回大会を記念し、

＆シンポジウム第20回記念大会にふさわしい、
各国からの参加者が日本国の国際化を知ることができる

Memorial Lecture
Presentation
Best Paper Award
Commemorate the 20th anniversary for the Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium, four distinguished
guests who made a tremendous contribution to the birth of this event made memorial speeches.
Participants made oral and poster presentations in
five different themes: Population, Food, Energy,
Environment & ESD (Education for Sustainable
Development).
Student Presentations were evaluated in the
relevance to the theme, originality, logical
development, clarity, and performance by judges. At
the Closing Ceremony, each one or two students
were selected on the theme, and certificates and
prizes were awarded. Ms. Yuri Saita, Graduate
School of Education and Ms. Marina de Melo,
Exchange Student, Faculty of Humanities, Law and
Economics were awarded the best paper award.

Welcome Party
At the Welcome Party, in addition to welcoming guests, it is also unique to exchange our culture and
traditions. In the party, students of Mie University performed a traditional dancing called“Yosakoi-soran-bushi”
and guests from Thailand, China and Indonesia also performed their traditional dancing, music as well as their
culture. It was a great opportunity for participants to recognize the importance of their own culture and
tradition and at the same time, they learned different tradition and culture through exchange.

ウエルカムパーティーでは、
ゲストを歓迎するということのほか、
文化的交流をすることがこのイ
ベントの特徴となっています。
この日、
三重大学の学生による、
「よさこいソーラン節」の披露、
タイ、
インドネシア、
中国からのゲストによる、
伝統舞踊や音楽、
文化などが披露されました。参加者は、
それぞれの文化を知り、
異文化に触れることで、
さらに交流を深めることができました。
Workshop Program
On October 29, the procedure of this year’
s Workshop Program was introduced to all the participants. To
organize the Workshop in an academic way, the manual for the Program was sent to them in advance so that
participants had time to do research on their own theme. On the 30th, students had productive discussion in 10
groups on 5 themes with coordinators and facilitators. On November 1, two groups on the same theme got
together to conclude their proposal, then they presented their proposals in slides in the evening. This program
gave a great opportunity for students across borders to discuss on universal themes. Through this active
international exchange, students made fruitful results and we expect their international contribution in the future.

10のグループに分かれて、
コーディネーターとファシリテーターのサポー
トを受けながらディスカッションを繰り広げ、
11月1日テーマごとの5つのグルー
プで提案をまとめました。同日夕方には、
プレゼンテーションスタイルでの発表
が行われました。国を超え、
普遍のテーマにむけたディスカッションをし、
快活
な国際交流が行われ、
また将来への国際貢献が期待されるものとなりました。

Excursion
Closing Ceremony
In the autumn breeze, on board with Mie University’
s
Training Ship“Seisui-maru,”participants got some ideas
about biodiversity. On the same day, they visited Ise
grand shrine and felt a great nature in this region.
On November 1, Closing Ceremony was held for the five-day Seminar & Symposium.
At the ceremony, representatives from 20 universities gave short speeches with appreciation and experience.
In addition, some of the students were awarded for the best paper presentation and workshop program.
At the end, the Tri-U Flag was passed to the faculty of Chiang Mai University, Thailand for the 2014 host
university. The 20th commemorative Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium were closed with
happiness and satisfaction.

Smart Campus Tour
The representatives of core universities; Mie
University, Chiang Mai University in Thailand,
Jiangsu University in China, and Bogor Agricultural
University in Indonesia discussed the management
of the Seminar & Symposium and the host
university in the next year with the attendance of
the representatives of participating universities.
Participating faculty members attended the lecture
on the “Smart Campus Project” by Prof. Bannai,
Graduate School of Regional Innovation Studies.
After the lecture, they went on a study tour visiting
Wind Turbine Generator, Gas Engine Cogeneration
System, and Energy Management System.

On November 1, the farewell party was held concluding all the activities in the 20th Tri-U Seminar &
Symposium. In the party, we invited Maiko dancers from Kyoto for the participants to learn Japanese
Traditional Art. The participants enjoyed the tradition and culture of Japan while tasting Japanese Traditional
dishes. In addition, they exchange their own information for keeping communication in future.

The 7th International Week at
Mie University 2013
From Wednesday, December 11 to Saturday, December 21, “The 7th International Week 2013”is being held
at Mie University. This is the final event week of Mie University, focusing on International Exchange
opportunity. The university offers number of events for the students, teachers as well for the residents of the
area.
Lecture given by Consulate-General of the Federal
Republic of Germany in Osaka-Kobe and the movie
On Thursday, December 12, the entitled lecture and the movie show were given at Mie
Environmental & Informational Platform (MEIPL building). Dr. Florian J・a・ger, ConsulateGeneral of the Federal Republic of Germany in Osaka-Kobe, gave the introduction about
the change of the energy system in Germany:“Energy shift in Germany.”
After the lecture, the movie “Sch・o・nau’
s thought (Das Sch・o・nauer Gef・u・hl)”was showed.
Almost 150 audience were concentrated to the citizen’
s movement in Sch・o・nau city, to
start to supply the natural energy, motivated by the Chernobyl disaster. Q & A session
was held as well after the movie.

の日程で「第7回三重大学国際交流週間2013」を開催しました。
このイベントは今年度の国際交流
事業の集大成となるもので、
期間中は留学生および日本人学生、
教職員など国際交流活動に取り組む方たちが様々なイベントに参加しました。
International Workshop Program
The International Workshop Program “Internationalization at Mie University -from the Student’
s Point of
View-”was held as one of the Mie University International Week events. In the Workshop Program, 19 Japanese
students and 17 international students in three groups had active two-day discussion about Mie University’
s
Internationalization in Japanese and English. In the discussion, students exchanged their unique opinions and
ideas about advancement of English ability and opportunity for studying abroad.
In addition, they made a proposal to hold new and creative courses to teach history and cultures in their own
countries. On this day, students made their proposal in English at Sansui Hall.

国際交流週間イベントの一環として、

∼学生からの視点」が行われました。本ワークショップでは、
日本人学生19名・留学

12月12日
（木）環境・情報科学館1階ホールにて、
講演会および映画上映会が行われました。大阪・神戸ドイツ連邦共和国総領事館のフロー
リアン・イェーガー領事より
「ドイツのエネルギーシフト」
と題してドイツのエネルギーシステムがどのように推移していったのか説明がありました。そ
の後、
映画「シェーナウの想い」が上映され、
参加した約150人はチェルノブイリ原発事故をきっかけに自然エネルギーの供給に力をいれるシェー
ナウ市の取り組みを真剣な面持ちで見入っていました。上映後には質疑応答も行われました。

三重大学の国際化に向
けた提言を英語でまとめました。
12月19日の報告会では、
英語力向上や留学機会のための大学側への提言や、
学生主体による各国の文化や歴史などを紹介する新たな講座開設の提案など、
学
生ならではのユニークな提案が出されました。
International Exchange Party
iCERP Lecture
On December 19, International Exchange Party was held and there were
about 350 people including international students, Japanese students, foreign
researchers, faculty and staff members enjoyed having meeting and talking
each other. Following the opening speech from Prof. Atsumasa Uchida, the
President of Mie University, Mr. Hisahiko Yamaguchi, Director, Tsu
International Exchange Association made his speech.
At the party, group of students performed their traditional dancing and
songs. All the participants enjoyed dancing and singing together. At the end,
Mie University’
s Cheer Leaders performed. The party was successfully
concluded with full of energy and fun with international and Japanese
students for communication.
On Friday, December 13, the entitled lecture was held at Mie Environmental &
Informational Platform. As a guest lecturer, we welcomed Prof. Dr. Christian R・o・sler and
Prof. Dr. Ruth Hampe from Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg with preasure.
They gave lectures “Couple and Family Therapy in Germany”(Prof. Dr. R・o・sler) and “The
psychological support with art for pupils in special needs education”(Prof. Dr. Hampe).
Both lectures were given in English, interpreted by Ms. Naomi Hiroe, International
Exchange Office, Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg and Ms. Tamae Okada,
Associate Professor, Integrated Center for Educational Research and Practice, Mie
University. All the participants were concentrated to the lecture.

山口久彦津市国際交流協会会長より来
を行っていただきました。
賓挨拶をいただきました。
講演は全て英語で行われ、
フライブルクカソリック大学国際交流事務担当の広江尚美さん、
本学附属教育実践総合センターの岡田珠江准教
授の日本語通訳によって進められました。参加者は真剣な面持ちで、
講演に耳を傾けていました。
パーティーでは、
各国の留学生によるパフォーマンスが披露されると飛び入り参加する学生などもみられ、
会場全体が一体となり盛り上がりま
した。最後に、
体育会系応援団が留学生にエールを送り、
留学生や日本人学生らが一堂に会した国際交流パーティーは親睦を深める会とし
て、
大盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。

Japanese Skit Contest 2013
Let’
s Know India!
Study Tour for International Students
“Skit” is a short play, and three groups with
international and Japanese students played“Kei-on!:
Popular Anime”, “Found the Specter with White
Mantle!”, and“Respectful Taking Journey of Momo
taro.” After their plays, Mie University’
s “Theater
Group Crest” and “Juggliano!” performed their
performance as guest performers.
Ms. Khedkar Archana Avinash introduced about
India in various aspects in quiz. In the quiz about
tea, Indian Chai was served and audience could
enjoy the tea of India. Participated students faculty
and staff memebers could learn a lot about India
listening to her talking and drinking Chai.
Eighty-three international students and staffs has a
study tour to Shiga prefecture. Mie University give
opportunities for international students for learning
Japanese culture twice a year.
They visited national heritage site, Hikone castle, and
Nagahama city having historical and international
aspects. They also had a great experience of sandblasting
there. Students enjoyed having picture taken in the sun
and spent a day touching Japanese history, tradition and
culture.

インド出身の留学生ケドカル・アルチャナ・アビナシュさんがインド
の様々な側面についてクイズ形式で紹介しました。お茶にまつわる

「桃太郎の敬語の旅」を
問題では、
実際にインドのチャイが振る舞われ、
参加者はおいしいチャ
テーマに発表しました。その後、
ゲストとして三重大学のサークル「劇

留学生のための研修旅行
研修旅行は年に2回行われており、
日本の文化を学ぶことを目的として
います。今回、
留学生83名は教職員の引率のもと滋賀県へ向かい、
国宝
彦根城の見学や、
古い町並みに海外の文化を取り込んだ長浜でサンド
ブラスト体験をしました。天気にも恵まれ、
留学生たちは様々なところで記
念写真を撮ったり、
商店街でお土産を選んだり、
長浜の特産品に舌鼓を
打っていました。
JICA Volunteer Seminar
We invited Ms. Mao Morimoto who is a graduate of
Mie University, and was working as a JICA volunteer
from June 2011 to June 2013 in Paraguay. She shared her
great experiences during her volunteer work and
activities after returning to Japan. This seminar provided
a wonderful information to whom interested in inter
national cooperation activities.
JICA Chubu visit
Tennis Tournament
Five students (including graduates) and 2 teachers
from Mie University have visited JICA Chubu
International Center, as a part of University’
s
International Week events. Their activities as JICA
(Japan International Cooperation Agency) were
introduced, as well as the information of their
project in Viet Nam by Mr. Koji Shimizu, former
specialist, JICA Chubu. There was a Skype session
with JICA specialist presently in Viet Nam, pieces of
information about their work and life were shared.
It was excellent opportunity to listen to JICA
specialist’
s experience, who play very important role
in JICA project.
There were twelve players attended and Mr.
Peng Chenshan & Mr. Xinglong Chenshan got the
first prize, and Ms. Xiaofei Ma & Prof. Xuelun Wang
got the second prize.

2011年6月から2013年6月までパラグアイで活動さ

JICA中部の清水浩二氏

ベトナムにおけるJICAプロジェクトの事例紹介
の出会い、
現地の生活スタイルなど自身の体験や帰国後の進路などにつ
があり、
さらにベトナム現地在住のJICA専門家の方とスカイプを通
いて話していただきました。国際協力の仕事に関心のある学生をはじめ、
じて、現地での仕事や生活ぶりについての対話を行いました。
参加者にとって大変有意義なセミナーになりました。
JICAプロジェクトに携わる専門家の生の声を聞く貴重な機会とな
りました。

Debriefing Session for Int’lInternship Program & Field Study Program
Singing Contest
In the first half, nine students who participated in the Internship Program in Thailand, Malaysia, and Viet
Nam as well as Ms. Puangpaka Rochanabanthit who participatecd in Suranaree University of Technology in
Thailand made presentation of their experience. The fruit from the experience, exchange activities and
differences they experienced during thier internship period were shared with the audience.
In the last half, session was for the field study programs held in Viet Nam, Thailand and Indonesia. There
were much precious experience which is different from private trips they encounter. In the session, more than
60 people enjoyed the debriefing session on this day. We found out that even there are some difficulties in the
visited countries, students could learn more through the process to overcome the difficulties.
There were 13 groups including Japanese and international students presented songs. Japanese students sang
foreign songs in English, international students sang Japanese songs in Japanese, and mixed group sang one song
both in English and Japanese. The audience enjoyed
their songs giving big applause.

Rochanabanthitさんによる報告がありました。実習の成果や派遣された国で経験した日
歌が終わるたびに参加者からは大きな拍手が送られるなど、
国際のどじ
本との違い、
現地学生との交流など充実した研修の様子を知ることが出来ました。
まん大会は大盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。
後半は、
今年度実施されたフィールドスタディーについて、
ベトナム、
タイ、
インドネシアでの
研修の報告がありました。観光旅行では知ることの出来ない貴重な体験談に、
60名を超え
る参加者も熱心に耳を傾けました。
どちらのプログラムに関しても、
現地で困難にぶつかっ
てもそれを乗り越えることによって、
より充実した研修となったことを感じられる報告会でした。

Debriefing Session for the Tri-U IJSS
The Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium is an academic meeting hosted by Mie University
(Japan), Chiang Mai University (Thailand) and Jiangsu University (China) in turn. Bogor Agricultural University
(Indonesia) was newly added as one of the host universities from 2011. In this year, the 20th Seminar was held
from October 28 to November 1 at Mie University, and about 140 people from 20 universities in eight countries
including 14 presenters from Mie University.
At the debriefing session, paper presenters and student committee members made reports, in addition, Ms.
Yuri Saita & Ms. Marina de Melo who received best paper award made their paper presentaion. In the session,
about 65 people who are interested in international activities and attending the next Tri-U IJSS at Chiang Mai
University, Thailand learned a lot from their reports.

3大学国際ジョイン トセミナー＆シンポジウムとは、
三重大学（日本）、
チェンマイ大学（タイ）、
Hand in Hand! Mie Global Citizen 2013
“Hand in Hand! Mie Global Citizen 2013” was held for the
purpose of the development of multi-culture society, international
cooperation and activities by Mie NPO Network Center. At the
event, events on multi-cultural understandings were held by Mie
University, Suzuka International University and Yokkaichi
University. Following that, final event was held on December 21 at
UST Tsu. Mie University had exhibition of“Viet Nam Field Study
2013”and the poster presentation, as well as the performance by
the winner of the singing contest held on December 18. Around
300 people visited the place and it was successfully closed.

特定非営利活動法人みえNPOネットワークセンター主催の「Hand in Hand! みえ
江蘇大学（中国）の3大学が交代でホストをしている国際交流を兼ねた論文発表会です。

The delegates attended the ceremony of the immigration for its 100 years and the partnership city for its 40
years held in Sao Paulo. The Agreement on Academic Exchange and Cooperation was concluded between the
Faculty of Humanities, Law and Economics of Mie University and Faculty of Philosophy, Literature, and Human
Sciences of the University of Sao Paulo in May 2011. Since then, we have active exchanges of students and
faculty. At this time, we concluded the Letter of Intent by and between Mie University and the University of
Sao Paulo.

訪問団は、
17日に行われた三重県人移民100周年記念式典や三重県サンパウロ州姉妹都
市40周年記念式典に出席しました。三重大学人文学部とサンパウロ大学哲学・文学・人間科

Cooperation in December 2005 and having active exchanges such as exchanging students and having distance
learning courses centered in the English Education Course, Faculty of Education.On June 14, delegates from
UNCW visited Mie University as a part of the Japanese Training Program and had an exchange meeting with
students of Faculty of Education.

Field Trip to Iga (Touch the Culture)
On January 26, 2014, we held the second day trip to Iga city for
international students to have cultural experiences. The total of
35 including 20 international students of the Faculty of
Humanities, six international students (invited for New Silk Road
Project: four from Mongolia and two from the Republic of Korea),
four Japanese students and five faculty members participated in
the day trip and we had a good mutual exchanges with each
other. On the day, they have visited Ninja House, Ninja
performance and the House of Matsuo Basho with good memories.

Communication through Cooking
(Taste the Culture)
On January 21, 2014, a special event to deepen cultural
knowledge “Communication through Cooking” was held,
focused on the most interesting topic “food” with cooperation
of Home Education Department at the Faculty of Education.
International students introduced vegetarian and recipe with
fruits such as scone of England, lemon cake of Germany, fried
noodles with dried tofu and veggie burger. They cooked them
together with Japanese students and enjoyed eating. This event

2013年度、
2 回目の伊賀市での留学生文化体験企画
を2014年1月26日に日帰りで行いました。忍者屋敷、
忍者ショー、
芭蕉生家訪問に加え、
今回初めて企画したのは、

体験、
お茶席体験などでしたが、
関係者の協力の下、
予
定通りに無事終えることが出来ました。参加者は、
人文学
部留学生20名、
「新シルクロードプロジェクト」で来日中の
留学生6名（モンゴル4名、
韓国2名）、
日本人学生4名、

員5名の計35名で、
1日研修の中で相互に交流を深める

教育学部家政教育講座の協力を得て、
学生の関心が高い食に焦点を当て、
他者の文化に対す
る理解を深めるための特別企画としてクッキングとコミュ
ニケーションのイベントを行いました。留学生が、
イギリスの
スコーン、
ドイツのレモンケーキ、
中国の干し豆腐を使った
焼きそば、
ベジタリアンバーガーなど、
ベジタリアンが工夫
している野菜や果物中心のメニューを紹介し、
レシピを解
説した後、
留学生と日本人学生が一緒に調理し、
会食し
ながら、相互交流を行いました。本イベントは、English

The University of Auckland
An Education Program was held from September 9 to 19, 2013 at
the Faculty of Education, the University of Auckland in New
Zealand. There were ten students and five faculty members
including Prof. Goto attended the program.
At the University of Auckland, they participated in the class of
the education in New Zealand, and also attended some classes for
study. In addition, they visited kindergartens, elementary schools,
junior and senior high schools. After the schools tours, they had a
feedback meeting to summarize their tour.
It was a really meaningful program for students aiming to be
school teachers to communicate in English as well as to learn the
New Zealand way of education focused upon children.

部において教育研修プログラムが実施されました。
学生10名のほか、

オークランド大学では、
ニュージーランドの教育事
情に関する講義を受けたほか、
教育学部の授業を
参観しました。また、
オークランド市内の幼稚園・小
学校・中学校・高等学校を視察し、
授業を参観した
あと振り返りの検討会も行いました。
「子供たちを主体にした授業」を実践するニュー
ジーランドの教育に触れるとともに、
英語コミュニケー
ション力を試す機会ともなり、
教員を目指す学生たち
にとって有意義な研修となりました。
For D.D. Program
天津師範大学DD2期生卒業式
On September 27, 2013, a graduation ceremony for the students
in the second batch of the Double Degree Program between Mie
University and Tianjin Normal University. At the ceremony,
twelve graduates attended and the representative talked about
their fruits in a wonderful speech made in Japanese. Prof. Uchida,
President, gave a congratulatory message, Prof. Hori, Executive
Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Fujita, Dean for
the Faculty of Education were also attended.
Students in the second batch supposed to have started in April
2011; however, they arrive six month later due to the aftereffect of
the Great East Japan Earthquake. In spite of the delay of their
arrival, they could successfully completed their requirement and
could graduate as we planned.
Some of the graduates continue their study in the Graduate
School of Education at Mie University, and other will start their
work in China. We hope they will make their future successful.

本語教育ダブルディグリー2期生の卒業式が挙行さ
れました。式典には、
卒業生12名のほか、

学長、堀浩樹国際交流担当理事、藤田達生教育
学部長ら関係者が参列しました。内田学長の祝辞
に続き、学生代表が見事な日本語で答辞を述べ、
三重大学での学習の成果を披露しました。
今回の卒業生は、
2011年の初来日時に東日本大
震災の影響を受け、
半年遅れでのスタートとなりまし
たが、
学生たちの努力のかいあって三重大学を予
定通り卒業の運びとなりました。
卒業生の進路は、教育学研究科などの三重大
学大学院への進学のほか、
中国に帰国して就職な
どさまざまですが、
今後の活躍が期待されます。

国際医療支援センターの設立
The International Medical Support Center, Graduate School
of Medicine, was established on October 1, 2013 on the purpose
of the development of medical support system for developing
countries as one of our international cooperation activities. This
center was inaugurated for some of the main activities shown
hereafter. 1) To hold conferences for hospital workers to aware
of the international contribution and globalization. 2) To be
able to receive foreign doctors and staff. 3) To offer medical
education and instruction to foreign doctors in the developing
countries. (Photo on the left) 4) To send medical supply in need
to Africa and Southeast Asia. At the hospital conferences, we
had several lectures as follows: “Medical Support for
Myanmar”;“Medical Support for Victims from the Typhoon in
the Philippines”; “Urgent Humanitarian Assistance: The
Theory of Build Back Better”; “Trial of Protection from
Trauma in Africa”; “International Health and ExchangeActivities in Viet Nam.” We would like to aggressively work
on receiving foreign doctors and staff as well as medical
assistance (humanitarian and supply) for developing countries.
三重大学の国際貢献という立場から、
特に発展途上
国に対する医療支援体制の構築が望まれていたため、
2013年10月1日に医学部附属病院内に国際医療支援セ
ンターが設置されました。
このセンターの主な活動内容は、
1）病院職員に対して国際貢献・国際化を意識した院内
勉強会を開催する、
2）外国人医療関係者の受け入れ窓
口になる

現地の医師
に対して医学的教育・指導を行う

「国際保健と交流∼ベトナムに
おける取り組み∼」の内容の講演が行われました。今後は、
外国人医療関係者の受け入れ、
発展途上国への医療
支援（人的・物的支援）
などを積極的に行っていきたいと

In this year, at the Graduate School of Engineering, we have
made further promotion of internship activities including
training at companies in addition to student exchange based on
partnership Agreement (between faculties and between

the program is shown below. This scheme is designated for
foreign students who wish to have internship activities in
Japan. It assures quality and reduces the incidence by
collaborating universities and companies, which is the All-Win
structure. In Europe, students are required to have internship
in foreign counties and also they face to job scarcity, therefore,
they wish to learn fundamental technology and LeanManufacturing in Japan. In South East Asia, based on overseas
expansion of Japanese companies, governments recommend to
have training in Japan. On the other hands, Japanese
companies have hopes to universities as the medium, in the
society of implementing research institutes overseas (fusion of
needs and seeds at the sight of customers) and collecting
human resources domestically at the overseas production
offices. This scheme can respond these all, utilize intellectual
properties of universities, and contribute toward society. In
this year, we conduct
internship following this
scheme with four foreign
partner universities and
four companies in Japan for
European (France, Spain,
and Italy) students showed
in the pictures below.

このスキームは日本での活動を希望する海外学生のインター
ンシップにおいて、
大学間および企業との間の連携により、

を保証しかつお互いの負担を軽減しあうという言わばAll-Winの
構図です。欧州においては、
学生が海外インターンシップの義務
付けと就職難により、
日本での基礎技術と生産方式（Lean-Manufacturing等）
の習得を希望し、
東南アジアにおいては、
日本企
業の海外進出を受けて政府レベルでの日本での研修を推奨し
ています。一方、
日本企業においても、
海外での開発拠点の設
置（顧客の直近でのニーズとシーズの融合）や、
海外生産拠点
での現地人財確保などの要求が高まる中で大学の仲介に大き
な期待をもっています。
これら全てに応え、
かつ大学の知的資産
の有効利用、

USP Delegations
The cultural exchange program through the partnership of the
University of the South Pacific and Mie University offers a great
opportunity for students to experience the life and culture of the
Japanese people. The Japanese government is undergoing many
cultural exchange programs for pacific island countries. As a part of
these project activities (JENESYS 2.0), on 30th September, 2013; thirty
students and one administrative staff from USP visited the Graduate
School of Bioresources, Mie University. Upon arrival they were
greeted by our dean and staff in the joint briefing session and briefly
explained about the outline of the two host universities through
which both countries students got to see how different the education
system is in Japan from that of the Pacific. The USP students enjoyed
sharing their culture through traditional dances and stories and were
proud to tell Japanese students and officials that every pacific island
nation has their own unique culture and traditions. They enjoyed
Japanese style lunch at the university cafeteria. The delegation also
observed students involvement on promoting 3R concept
(Reduce/Reuse/Recycle) in the context of environmental conservation,
MEIPL, Sansui Hall and Smart Campus Project at Mie University.
The students were surprised to see the cutting edge technology and
how Mie University utilizes it to make an eco-friendly campus and
environment. The delegates showed their interest to implement these
ideas at USP campus. While returning, they mentioned every event
they participated was enjoyable. They were amazed to see the
hospitality of Mie University. Even though it was a short trip but it
will cherish their life long memories.
南太平洋大学訪問団の受け入れ
2013年9月30日、
受入文化交流プログラムの
一環として南太平洋大学から学生30名と職員1
名を受入ました。これは、外務省が行っている
JENESYS2.0の友好事業の一環で、
学生たち
には日本の生活や文化に触れることができた素
晴らしい体験となりました。
生物資源学研究科長および教職員が出迎え、
それぞれの大学概要や日本と南太平洋との教
育の違いなどについて簡単に説明がなされまし
た。南太平洋大学の学生は、
南太平洋の国々
にはそれぞれ独自の文化や伝統があることを誇
りに思い、
その伝統舞踊や話を披露してくれまし
た。昼食は、
大学のカフェテリアにて日本スタイル
の食事を楽しみました。
訪問団は、
三重大学の環境保全に関する取
り組みである環境コンセプト3Ｒ
（リデュース、
リユー
ズ、
リサイクル）推進事業、
メイプル館、
三翠ホー
ル及び三重大学スマートキャンパスコンセプト事
業などを見学しました。三重大学の先進的な取
り組みや環境に優しいキャンパス環境整備に驚
き、南太平洋大学でも実施したいと話していま
した。
短い時間でありましたが、
訪問団のメンバーは
それぞれの楽しかった時間のことに触れ、
三重
大学での素晴らしいもてなしに喜びいつまでも
忘れられない思い出となったようです。
TATI University College, Malaysia
Mie University delegates visited Tati University College in Malaysia,
which is one of our partner universities, between June 26 and 28, 2013.
Three representatives from Regional Innovation Studies, Dr. Tsuruoka,
Vice Dean, Dr. Higashikawa, previous Head, and one professor visited the
President, Dr. Zunaidi there during their visit. In addition, they had
discussion with members of Research Management Center to exchange
ideas for further international exchange activities. They also exchanged
ideas for the International Workshop on Regional Innovation Studies
which is going to be held in October as well as for the International
Conference on Engineering Technology which is going to be held in
December. Furthermore, they met Mie University students, who is
studying at the Engineering Department, following the campus tour. Even
for a short visit, they could have a fruitful discussion and we hope that
we will be able to extend our mutual collaborations for the near future.

The 5th International Workshop
on Regional Innovation Studies (IWRIS2013)
A workshop on regional innovation studies“The Fifth International
Workshop on Regional Innovation Studies (IWRIS2013)”was taken place
at Media Hall, Mie University on October 17 and 18, 2013. At the
workshop the collaboration researches with graduate students, regional
company managers and domestic and foreign university researchers
presented the seeds of innovation and they discussed actively by English,
and they argued the essentiality of new creative disciplines about the
fusion between the culture and the science.
As Invited presentations, Prof. Wan Zulkarnain (Dean of Faculty of
Electrical and Automation Engineering Technology) and Prof. Mohamad
Redhwan (Manager of Academic Affairs) from TATI University College,
Malaysia, presented their research results. In addition, 17 students in
master and doctor course made oral presentations on various fields from
life innovation to Green innovation, and the approaches include theoretical
research, experimental research and verification research. Furthermore,
many questions were asked showing their interest, total of 114
participants learned a lot about the different field and also English. The
next workshop will be held in October, 2014.

第5回地域イノベーション学に
関する国際ワークショップ
10月17日から18日、
地域イノベーション学
について意見交換し、今後の発展を促進
する、
「第5回地域イノベーション学に関す
る国際ワークショップ」が開催されました。
この国際ワークショップでは、
三重大学の
大学院学生、
地域企業の若手経営者、
国
内外の研究者がグローバルな視点から地
域イノベーションについて白熱した議論を
行い、
地域イノベーションの芽の紹介と、
今後、
文理融合型の新しい学問分野を構築する
必要性が論じられました。
招待講演では、

Redhwan教授よりタチ大学の研究成果に
関する講演が行われました。
また、
博士課程在籍の学生による地域イ

have believed that someday I would be writing “When I

here, I believe that it is to embrace the surprises that life
presents. The journey, as they say, is indeed more
important than the destination. For me, it has been a good
journey. I am a different and, I hope, a better person

Weekend TOEFL Course
Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium (Tri-U IJSS)
This course focuses on the students who plan to study abroad in the near future, and to improve their TOEFL
score. In the 2013 academic year, 51 students selected from 67 candidates participated in the course in two
levels, in total of ten classes.
The students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed their studies, they gave the comments such as“I was very
motivated to study English,”“I could focus on more output.”The course was closed with satisfactory results.
In the 2014 academic year, the course details will be announced in April and the class will start in May. For

The Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium is an academic meeting hosted by Mie University
(Japan), Chiang Mai University (Thailand) and Jiangsu University (China) in turn. Bogor Agricultural University
(Indonesia) was newly added as one of the host universities from 2011. The event is also an opportunity for
interactions with foreign students. The 21st Tri-U IJSS will be held at Chiang Mai University in Thailand. The
introductory meetings are held in early Spring. Candidates submit their own research paper abstract, then, take
an interview in English. Candidates are awarded scholarship up to 100,000 JPY for traveling.

留学希望者のための Weekend TOEFL講座
3大学国際ジョイン トセミナー＆シンポジウムは、
三重大学（日本）、
チェンマイ大学（タイ）、
江蘇大学（中国）
の3大学が交代でホストをしている
将来的に留学を希望する学生のTOEFLスコアアップを目的とした「留学希望者のためのWeekend TOEFL講座」を土曜日に開講してい
ます。2013年度には、
学内から応募した67名の内選抜された51名が初級・中級の2クラスに分かれ、
3ヶ月間10回のコースを受講しました。
受講生たちは土曜日にも関わらず毎回熱心に授業を受け、
「英語を勉強する上でのモチベーションが上がった」

国際交流を兼ねた論文発表会です。2011年度からは新たにボゴール農科大学（インドネシア）
がホスト校に加わりました。第21回大会は、
タイ・
チェンマイ大学で開催されます。4月頃には、
説明会が開催されます。参加者は、

英語による面接を経て、

“Survival Japanese Course” is held for the
international students of our university, 16 students
took attended classes in 2013 as the start-up course.
Students enjoyed the classes as they commented
“Three months were too short,”and“I could make
new friends here.”

International Internship Program
International Internship Program is designated for student to broaden their knowledge through the experience
of the work at private sectors and partner universities in Thailand, Malaysia, Viet Nam, and Republic of Korea.
The application is announced from the end of April to May every year. Candidates take interview in English and
select the participants. Participants are awarded scholarship up to 100,000 JPY for the transportation.
There were some difficulties in the visited countries, however, students could learn more through the process
to overcome the difficulties.

Study Abroad Courses
These courses aim to upgrade students’English competency and broaden their view to the international
community. These are held at Seattle Pacific University in the USA and Friedrich-Alexander-Universit・a・t
Erlangen-N・u・rnberg in Germany. Both programs are officially announced in October and orientation sessions are
held. English lessons in different levels, home stay at a local family, various activities including sports and field
trips are programmed. Students who wish to have a longer study overseas in the future are also welcome to
participate in the training as a preparation.

Field Study Program
This course is set up for the students to brush up their abilities to communicate in English and other
languages and also to have experiences abroad. Both Japanese students and international students may enhance
cross-cultural understanding of each other while studying and working together in the same class.
In Viet Nam Field Study, we visit Ho Chi Minh City and rural area in South Vietnam and watch development
project sights or exchange with students of Vietnamese university.
In Thailand Field Study, we participate in special seminars at a partner university and/or an international
organization and visit some agricultural sites and local market to study the front line of sustainable food
production in Bangkok and souring areas. This program is also carried out in Indonesia.

このコースは、
英語等の外国語でコミュニケーションする能力を磨くこと、
海外での経験を積むことを目的に、
日本人学生と海外の学生が同じ
クラスで学び、
ともに課題に取り組むことにより、
国際理解教育の効果がさらに高められることを目指しています。
ベトナムフィールドスタディでは、
ベトナム・ホーチミン市および南部農村に赴き、
開発現場の見学と協定校学生との交流を行い、
タイフィールド
スタディでは、
タイ・バンコクおよびその周辺地域において協定大学、
国際機関等での地域資源の持続的利用に関するセミナーに参加したうえ
で、
循環型生産に取り組む食料生産の現場、
ローカルマーケットなどを見学し、
先進的な持続的生産活動の実態を学んでいます。他にインドネ
シアでも実施されています。

Contents
At Tonomachi Junior High School with 138 students in
the 1st grade, a class was held to learn different culture and
living traditions. There were four students invited from Mie
University. In the class, Chinese students introduced their
own country and played their traditional musical instrument, matouqin. Thai students introduced their own culture
and played Thai Janken: rock-paper-sissors together with
students.
Impression
At the beginning, we were all very nervous but when we
made quiz about Inner Mongolia and Thailand, the students
listened to us and gave us many questions that made us
very happy. I cannot forget this great experience being
asked encore and playing Janken with students.

活動内容
殿町中学校1年生138人を対象に、
多文化理解を深める
ことを目的とした授業が行われ、
本学の留学生4人が講師と
して招かれました。内モンゴルの学生がスライドで自国の紹
介を行い、
モンゴル伝統の馬頭琴の演奏を披露しました。続
いてタイの学生もスライドで自国を紹介したあと、
留学生4人
と中学の生徒たちで、
タイのじゃんけん
（パオインシュップ）
を
楽しみました。
感想
今まで中学生と話をした経験がなかったので、
とても緊張
していましたが、
タイと内モンゴルについてクイズ形式で紹介
したところ、
中学校のみなさんが一生懸命聞いて、
質問も積
極的にしてくれたので嬉しかったです。馬頭琴の演奏のア
ンコールを頼まれたり、
タイのじゃんけんを楽しんでくれたりし
た姿が忘れられません。
とてもよい思い出になりました。

Outline of Activity
At Nagashima Education Center in Kuwana city, they
hold classes to learn different culture for elementary school
children every year. About 20 students who go to three
different schools in Nagashima town get together. In this
year, they invited our international students from Germany,
Sweden, Serbia and Afghanistan. Students enjoyed learning
different culture together.
In November, Mr. Said attended the class as the lecturer
and shared many unique aspects of Afghanistan.
Contents
I taught how to write names in my own language to
children. Then I introduced our culture, tradition, dance,
clothes, and food showing pictures. In addition, we enjoyed
dancing along with the traditional music in the first class. In
the second class, I cooked our unique food and eat together.
We really had a great time together. At the end, we took
photos in our traditional clothing and flag of Afghanistan.
Impression
I enjoyed the time spent with children. Children in Japan
were very smart and I was surprised they learned our
languages very quickly to tell me hello and thank you in
my language. It was a great experience for me and I hope
children will learn more about different countries for their
future.
活動概要
桑名市教育委員会長島教育集会所では、毎年小学生
国際教室を開講し、
町内3つの小学校から児童約20名を対
象に外国文化などを学ぶ機会を設けています。今年度は、
三重大学の留学生4名（ドイツ・スウェーデン・セルビア・アフ
ガニスタン）
を招聘し、
各2回の授業を行いました。
11月には、
セイドさんがアフガニスタンのことを教える講師と
して招聘され授業を行いました。
活動内容
1回目の授業では、
子供たちの名前を自分の言葉で教え

伝統、
ダンス、
衣装、
食べ物などいろいろな写真を
見せながら国の紹介をしたりしました。
また、
伝統的な音楽
に合わせてみんなで一緒に踊りました。2回目の授業では、

Why did you join?
I heard about this program from my senior before I
came to Japan, and I wanted to join it.
How did you feel?
I was nervous at the beginning for the first time. I
played catch, talked about their study and school
with host children. The host family and I both love
music and we played the piano together, and
attended choir with the wife. They also took me to
Nara and Hikone castle in Shiga. I had a lot of fun
and I really recommend international students attend
this program. Living away from home, sometimes we
feel lonely but I fond host family here in Japan and
could spend my time with happiness.

内モンゴルにいるとき、

感想
最初はちょっと緊張しましたが、
お子さんたちに学校や勉強のこと
を聞いたり、
ボールで一緒に遊んだりしました。僕とご家族との共通の
趣味が音楽だったので一緒にピアノを弾いたり、
奥さんが所属してい
る合唱グループに行ったりしました。今も時々一緒に出かけるなど交
流が続いています。奈良や滋賀県の彦根城などへ行き、
とても楽しかっ
たです。ぜひ他の留学生たちにもこのプログラムを薦めたいです。留
学中は自分の家族と離れているので寂しいときもありましたが、

ファミリーを自分の家族ように感じ、
楽しく過ごすことができました。
一緒に料理を作って食べました。授業の最後には、

装を子供たちに着てもらったり、
アフガニスタンの国旗を持っ
て写真を撮ったりと、
とても素晴らしい時間を過ごしました。
感想
この授業を通して私は、
子供たちと一緒にとても楽しい時
間を過ごすことができました。
日本の子供たちは賢くて、
私の
国の言葉の挨拶をすぐに覚えて話しかけてくれ、
とても驚き
ました。
これは、
私にとって素晴らしい経験となりました。
これ
からも子供たちは将来のために、
いろいろな異なる文化を学
んでほしいと思っています。

during Golden Week holidays 2013/in Tsu City/
with a family of four/ for two nights three days
Why did you join?
The program was introduced by Prof. Michiko
Yoshii when she visited Viet Nam. Since then, I
wanted to join this program.
How did you feel?
I visited Shigaraki where the Shigaraki ware is
famous for and made the ware with my host family. I
also enjoyed barbecue at their home and I cooked
Vietnamese nems for them. There was no problems I
found in the Japanese culture and tradition. I found that
it is very similar between two countries. I was surprised
that children in Japan can take care of themselves by
them. In Viet Nam, usually mothers help children.
We are still having good friendship and I hope
international students from Viet Nam should join the
program. I recommend them to cook Vietnamese food
for host family!

ベトナムにいるとき、
吉井美知子先生にこのプログラムを紹介して
もらい、
その時から参加したいと思っていました。
感想
ホームステイ中は、
信楽焼きで有名な信楽にも行き、
作陶体験もし
ました。一緒にBBQをしたり、
ベトナムの生春巻きを作ったりもしました。
日本の伝統や文化、
習慣で困ることはなかったです。ベトナムとどこ
となく似ているなぁと感じました。驚いたのは、
日本の子どもは自分で
自分のことをきちんとやれること。ベトナムではお母さんが子どもを手伝っ
てあげることが多いです。
今も交流は続いています。ベトナムの後輩にもぜひこのホームステ
イプログラムに参加してほしいです。その時はベトナム料理を紹介し
てほしいなぁと思います。

How did you like it?
We have lunch with around 20 to 30

every Friday. Through the activities, my

friends. We are now planning to have
welcome party for incoming students and go
to a day trip in May.

International Student Committee is to enhance exchange
activities between international students and Japanese
students, to improve support systems for accepting
international students, and to offer information to the
international students. There are seven groups in the
Committee: 1) China, 2) Republic of Korea, 3) Bangladesh, 4)
Malaysia, 5) Thailand, 6) Asian Region, 7) Four Continent
Union, and representatives are appointed in each group.

there is some problems, I listen to them for support. There are many advantages that Chinese friends we met
here last our friendship after going back to China.

JICA Peace Project
国際協力機構(JICA)ピースプロジェクト
At the Kabul Conference held in July 2010, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan made a commitment to
receive and cultivate up to 500 Afghan administrators in the field of engineering and agriculture. Japan
government discussed this commitment with Afghan government, then Afghan government submitted a
statement to Japan government. Japan government accepted the request in January, 2011 and the Record of
Discussion was concluded in February, 2011.
This is a project aiming to support the infrastructure, agriculture and rural development in Afghanistan.
Japan accept administrative officers and faculty in the related areas to the universities in Japan. Trainees are to
increase their knowledge and technology in the Master Degree Course and such. Currently, two trainees started
in September, 2012 and two trainees started in September 2013 are studying at Mie University.
2010年7月のカブール会合において、
日本国外務大臣から工学、
農学等の分野で最大500名のアフガニスタン人行政官を日本に受入育成
するコミットメントがなされました。
このコミットメントの具体化をアフガニスタン政府と協議し、
同協議結果を踏まえアフガニスタン政府より、
要請書
が提出されました。
日本政府は、
2011年1月本要請を採択し、
2011年2月合意文書が署名されました。
このプロジェクトは、
アフガニスタン国のインフラ及び農業・農村開発に資することを目的として、
これらの分野の関連省庁行政官及び大学教
員を日本の大学に研修員として受入れ、
修士課程等で必要な知識と技術を習得するものです。2012年9月から2名、
2013年9月から2名を受け
入れています。

Why did you choose Mie University?

Ganji: I knew that Japan is a very good place and people are also
kind. I found a field fits to my research and my background.
Saboor: This gave me an opportunity to apply openly, and I am
interested in Japanese culture and advanced technology. In
addition, what I will study at Mie University is related to my
background and my future plan.
Asim: It is well known that the level of education in Japan is high
I wanted to study in Japan.
Noorulhaq: I got information from my seniors and got positive
impression about Mie University such as it has a good
educational environment, and living expenses are not so
expensive and more.

How is Japan?
Do you like to study at Mie University?
日本の感想は？
三重大学はいかがですか？
Saboor: Japanese language is difficult. This is a good place that we
can find anything we need around Mie University. In addition,
the educational environment is really good, and we have access
to the lab and library at any time.
Asim: Both Japan and Afghanistan are traditional and respectful.
There is no problem for living in this society but I have
problems in the language.
Noorulhaq: In the first few months, I had trouble going shopping
and other things, but we got a great support from seniors of
Afghanistan, we could solve problems.
Ganji: I like Mie and Mie University a lot. There is no big problems
living in Japan. I think everything is excellent academically.

三重大学の周辺には何でも
そろっており、
生活しやすい環境です。
また、
研究室や図書館
などに自由に出入りできるなど、
教育環境は非常によいです。
アシム：日本とアフガニスタンには似ているところがあり、

特に問題はありません。学術的な面においては、

What will you do after the program?
帰国後の予定を聞かせてください。
Asim: I will go back to where I was working at, and will try
solving the problems that we face in Afghanistan.
Noorulhaq: I was working as Assistant Professor in Kandahar
University, and I will continue my profession there.
Ganji: I will go continue working as Assistant Professor in Herat
University and I want to share my knowledge to my students.
Saboor: I will continue my work at the Ministry of Agriculture

君の未来のために！
I have just completed my first year as the director at the
CIER. I am a pediatrician primarily, but have also been
responsible for education and international relations at the
medical school prior to taking this position. The work at the
CIER is sometimes exiting and sometimes tough. However, I
have enjoyed challenging myself to many projects at the
CIER like one of our many foreign newcomers.
Universities in Japan have been asked to be academic
leaders in the globalization of society and to contribute more
to the development of global human resources in various
academic fields. To this point, the CIER has served as a
platform for international exchanges for both foreign and
Japanese students. We are open to all students who wish to
learn in a multi-cultural setting on campus, and support those
hoping to study abroad.
With co-operation of our faculty members, we are providing
the effective learning programs for language, culture and
global issues in each academic area. As an example, we
recently held the 20th annual Tri-U International Symposium
and Seminar at Mie University last October. More than 130
participants from countries throughout Asia exchanged
academic ideas and created lasting friendship at this
memorable symposium.
Currently, Mie University has academic exchange programs
with 88 universities all over the world. And our programs
continue to expand. For example, in the 2013 academic year,
we launched new collaborations with University of Central
Lancashire in England, National Kaohsiung Normal University
in Taiwan, University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and Universidad
Nacional Agraria-La Molina in Peru. I hope that Mie
University will continue to grow and become one of the most
globalized universities in Japan. As our campus is opened to
the ocean, our minds are widely opened to the world. It is my
sincerest wish that our students will strive to open their
futures in various international fields.
Currently, we aim to cultivate global human resources and to
accelerate the globalization by collaboration with universities at Mie
University. We strive for the development of interactive
international education programs and conduct them both in
domestically and internationally. We will keep providing attractive
programs. Please do not miss opportunities and be brave to
challenge for your future.
