During this time, the orchestra has been led by numerous eminent Music Directors including Fricsay, Maazel, Chailly, K. Nagano and Metzmacher, thus securing its place as one of Germany’s top orchestras. The DSO Berlin has the ability to produce both rich, heavy sounds as well as perform contemporary music with clarity, and it was taken over in 2013 by rising star Tugan Sokhiev. Having made an impact in Japan as a guest conductor with the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse during their tour as well as with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the recent appointment of Sokhiev as music director of the Bolshoi Theater also made global news. With his superb control of the orchestra, Sokhiev is sure to provide lively, dramatic music, and his first tour to Japan leading the DSO Berlin is certain to live up to your expectations. 7
