Where did she live as a child?
Artist and musician Yoko Ono was born in Tokyo in 1933 and arrived in California, where her father lived, in
1935. She didn’t stay in the USA during the Second World War, but returned to Japan with her mother.
What were her interests?
As a child, Yoko loved music. Her father wanted her to be a pianist and she played in her first concert at the
age of 4. She studied philosophy at university in Japan, but she didn’t finish her studies there because she
decided to move with her family to New York.
Who did she marry?
In 1956, she married Toshi Ichiyanagi. In 1962, she moved back to Japan, divorced Ichiyanagi and married
Anthony Cox. She returned again to the USA in 1964 and finally, in March 1969, she married John Lennon.
