プレスリリース日系文化会館のJCCC基金は3.11の地震/津波/原発事故の被害を受けた子供達向けに150万ドルの支援プロジェクトを実施（トロント）-‐ 日系文化会館では3月2日開催の春祭りの会場に於いて、2011年3月11日に日本を襲った三重苦
災害の被害者にJCCC基金より150万ドルの支援を行う計画があることを正式に発表します。 JCCC基金はその支援金をこの災害により被害をこうむった日本の子供たちの為に運用する計画です。この未曾
有の大災害は宮城、岩手、福島の三県の子供達から沢山のものを奪い、彼らの将来に影響を与えています。
経済的な援助なくしては、充分な教育を受けられない子供も多くいます。JCCC基金はそのような子供たちに焦
点を当てあるゆる方面での支援を行います。そして最大最良の効果を期して、以下運用の三案を決定しまし
た：
1）地方自治体への支援 - 三県それぞれが設けている被災児童学生の救援基金へ、JCCC 基金から寄
付を送ります。
2）大学奨学金制度 - 三県それぞれで選出された各大学毎に奨学金制度を設立し、初年度は 15 名に
各 5 千カナダドルを、翌年からは毎年 9 名に各 5 千カナダドルを支給します。この奨学金はそれ
ぞれの大学が管理運営しますが、学生の選出については JCCC 基金の承認が必要です。
3）在日カナダ大使館の“カナダ留学ホープ・プロジェクト”への協力 - JCCC 基金は約１万５千
カナダドルをプロジェクトへ寄付する用意があります。これで被災した生徒一人分のカナダへの
最高半年間の語学や文化留学の費用を補うことが出来ます。
2 月には JCCC 基金の代表が東北の四大学を訪問し、奨学金制度が正式に発足しました。岩手県立大学、東北
大学、福島県立医科大学、東日本国際大学の四校の学生が 2012/ 13 年度の奨学金を受けられます。

尚 150 万ドルには、JCCC 基金から災害直後にカナダ赤十字を通じて送られた義援金 10 万ドルも含まれます。

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre’s JCCC Foundation Directs $1.5 Million to Support Children Affected by the 3.11 Earthquake/Tsunami/Nuclear Disaster (Toronto)— At its March 2 Spring Festival celebration, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre’s JCCC Foundation formally announced its plans for the $1.5 million collected to support the victims of the March 11, 2011 triple disaster in Japan. The JCCC Foundation will distribute the money donated to its Japan Earthquake Relief Fund to help build the futures of Japanese youth directly affected by the disaster. Many students in the three prefectures of Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima have had their futures altered by the losses they have suffered due to the disaster. Without financial aid, many will be unable to further their education. The JCCC Foundation funds will be dispersed to help those in need further their education at all levels of the educational system. To ensure maximum impact, the project has three distinctive elements. 1) Prefectural Government Funds -‐ The JCCC Foundation will make a donation to each of the three prefectural government funds that have been established to assist the educational needs of affected children. 2) University Scholarships -‐ The JCCC Foundation will, through selected universities in the three prefectures, set up fifteen scholarships of $5000 (CAD) each in the first year and nine scholarships of $5000 (CAD) in each year thereafter. The universities will administer the scholarships, but the JCCC Foundation will approve all recipients. 3) Grant to the Canadian Embassy in Japan’s ‘Hope for Youth’ program – The JCCC Foundation will donate approximately $15,000 to the program that has been set up to enable affected Japanese students to come to Canada to study in for a period of up to 6 months to enhance language and cultural skills. In February, the JCCC Foundation visited the four participating universities in the Tohoku region to formally launch the scholarship program. The scholarships will be available for students to apply for the 2012/2013 school year at Iwate Prefectural University, Tohoku University, Fukushima Medical University and East Japan International University. JCCC Foundation Chair, Shari Hosaki stated, “we are grateful to so many Canadians from every community for supporting the JCCC Foundation’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Special thanks go to the Japanese Ambassador to Canada, Ambassador Ishikawa, the Consul General of Japan in Toronto, Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, and the Canadian Ambassador to Japan, Ambassador Clugston and his staff at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo for their assistance in bringing this project to life."
