Publication—Graduate student Karineh Petrossian (Advisor: Dr. Oppenheimer),
Associate Professor Lisa Banner, and Professor Steve Oppenheimer have a paper
accepted for publication in Acta Histochemica entitled: “Lectin binding and
effects in culture on human cancer and non-cancer cell lines: examination of
issues of interest in drug design strategies”
Graduate Student Presentations—Graduate student Stacy Krueger (Advisor: Dr.
Dudgeon) won second place for her presentation entitled: “Reproductive effort in
the red macroalga Mastocarpus papillatus along a latitudinal gradient” at the
Sigma Xi Student Research Symposium • Graduate student Tarja Sagar (Advisor:
Paul Wilson) also gave a presentation at this meeting entitled: “Flora and ecology
of the Santa Monica Mountains’ bryophytes”
Top Downloaded Paper—Professor Steve Oppenheimer’s cancer metastasis
review, which appeared last summer in Acta Histochemica, was the journal’s
single-most downloaded paper (884 copies) from August 2006–March 2007
K–12 Poster Symposium—Professor Steve Oppenheimer will host the K–12
Student Science Research Poster Symposium from 10 AM–12 N Saturday (19
May) in the Grand Salon, where hundreds of K–12 students, teachers, and parents
are scheduled to participate
Student Researchers Wanted—Professor Steve Oppenheimer welcomes students
interested in conducting cancer/developmental biology research in his lab
(basement of Eucalyptus Hall 2005) during summer or fall 2007
Student Awards Ceremony—Biology’s outstanding undergraduates and graduates
will honored at the annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 30 May at 2:00 PM
in the Botanic Garden
