MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
MR. ALONSO SMITH: male; 40’s; Ab2 - E4 baritone; father and lawyer.
MRS. ANNA SMITH: female; 40’s; Ab3 - D4 alto; good and loving mother.
LON SMITH: male; 19ish; Bb2 - G4 baritone; good looking Princeton freshman, eldest of Smith
children.
ROSE SMITH: female; 18ish; B3 - E5 mezzo; beautiful & chic daughter.
ESTHER SMITH: female; 17ish; G3 - D5 mezzo; lively & attractive daughter, in her junior year
of high school.
AGNES SMITH: female; 12ish; A3 - E5 mezzo; tomboyish.
TOOTIE SMITH: female; 6ish; A3 - D5 mezzo; bright & mischievous.
GRANDPA PROPHATER: male; 60’s; Bb2 - F4 baritone; Mrs. Smith’s father, a Civil War
Veteran.
KATIE: female; mid 30’s-60’s; F3 - C#5 alto; the Smith’s cook & housemaid, Irish.
JOHN TRUITT: male; 19ish; Bb2 - F4 baritone; athletic boy next door that Esther has a crush
on.
WARREN SHEFFIELD: male; 19ish; Ab2 - E4 baritone; Rose’s suitor, eligible young man from
a rich family.
LUCILLE BALLARD: female; sophisticated & charming young lady, may also be part of
Ensemble.
ENSEMBLE: male/female; child-teens-20s+; Postman, trolley car driver & trolley passengers,
guests at Lon’s party, ballroom couples, carolers.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
ALGERNON “ALGY” MONCRIEFF: male; late 20’s-early 30’s; a charming, idle, debonair
gentleman, best friends with Earnest, invented a fictional friend named “Bunbury”.
JOHN “JACK” WORTHING, better known as EARNEST: male; late 20’s-early 30’s; seemingly
responsible & respectable man who leads a double life, is courting Gwendolen, is uncle/guardian
to Cecily.
LADY BRACKNELL: female; 55+; aunt to Algy, mother of Gwendolen, a formidable lady,
cunning, narrow-minded, authoritarian.
GWENDOLEN FAIRFAX: female; 18-20’s; loves Earnest very largely for his name, she is
sophisticated, intellectual, cosmopolitan, and utterly pretentious.
MISS PRISM: female; late 40’s-50’s; governess to Cecily, entertains secret romantic feelings for
Rev. Chasuble.
CECILY CARDEW: female; 18-early 20’s; Jack’s young ward, has a vivid imagination.
REV. CANON CHASUBLE: male; 50+; the rector on Jack’s estate, entertains secret romantic
feelings for Miss Prism.
LANE: male/female; 20’s+; Algy’s manservant.
MERRIMAN: male/female; 20’s+ ; butler at Jack’s country estate.

LUCKY STIFF
HARRY WITHERSPOON: male; Bb2 - F#4; late 20’s-40; shy, sweet-natured and insecure shoe
salesman from England, feels incapable of taking risks and tries to change that all with a very
special trip with his Uncle Anthony.
ANNABEL GLICK: female; F#3 - E5; 25-35; no-nonsense representative for the Universal Dog
Home of Brooklyn, a pro-active citizen with an attentive & aggressive personality.
LUIGI GAUDI / TONY HENDON: male; B2 - F#4; 40-60; Luigi is a mysterious, boisterous
Italian who wears a beard & eye patch. Tony is Rita’s lover from New Jersey.
THE BODY OF UNCLE ANTHONY: male; 40-60; non-speaking role; the body of a man in a
wheelchair believed to be “Uncle Anthony” who Harry brings with him on a very special trip.
RITA LA PORTA: female; F#3 - D5; 35-55; Vinnie’s high-strung sister with a severe case of
nearsightedness, she’s impulsive, erratic, and very insecure about her looks.
VINNIE DI RUZZIO: male; A#2 - F#4; 35-55; Rita’s mild-mannered brother who is dragged
into her mess, an optometrist with predictably conservative tendencies.
DOMINIQUE DU MONACO: female; 20-30’s; seductive French nightclub singer, may also be
part of the ensemble.
ENSEMBLE: male/female; teens-20s+ ; chorus/various roles.
