About GGSIP University
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was the first university to be established by
the Government of NCT of Delhi in 1988, with the aim of facilitating and promoting
studies, research and development work in emerging areas of higher education with a
special focus on professional education.
With a sprawling campus of over 60 acres and 11 University Schools pertaining to
different areas of professional education, the University has been able to earn the best
of national accreditations, educational awards and acquire stringent certifications.
Ample sports facilities (football field, basketball court, tennis court), rain water
harvesting, sewage treatment plant are some of the distinguishing features of the
University. Separate parking facilities for students and faculty.
The University strives to provide a market oriented professional education to the
student community, with a view to serve the cause of higher education as well as to
meet the needs of the Indian industries with a eye towards rapidly changing global
environment.
About USLLS
Established in 2001, University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS) has since
then emerged as a premier hub of legal education in India. USLLS has acquired the
status of a distinct institution of legal education in an unparalleled setting of advanced
research and multidisciplinary environment. The institution endeavours to equip the
students with a sound sense of professionalism, backed by rigorous knowledge of law
and a profound understanding of social issues. The Course structure is contemporary
and practice oriented with a special focus on legal ethics. The school has been
attracting students from all over India and also overseas. The law school, with a
well-experienced and sincere regular faculty, conducts all the courses with
professionalism and due value orientation.
USLLS envisages advancement of institutional expertise in the area of legal research
and education by augmenting academic and professional excellence, developing
critical and relentless engagement with legal theory and practice. The college
promotes holistic development of the student wherein there is a balance between
theory and practice.
The Law school is endowed with a well-equipped Cyber lab and a data centre with
online databases and resources such as Manupatra, LexisNexis, SCCOnline and
WestLaw India. There is a moot court hall with a seating capacity of over 150 persons
and a seminar hall. The Law school boasts of two libraries, one being the Central Law
library equipped with the University Resource centre and book bank facility. It also has
a separate auditorium with the block with a seating capacity of over 100 persons and
Law library with updated SCCs, AIRs and other Law journals.
Lately, USLLS has been ranked 10th All India and 2nd in Delhi by India Today Survey
of 2016, reporting it as one of the leading colleges in its list of ‘Top 25 Law Schools in
India-2016’
From Dean’s Desk
Established in 2001 at Delhi, Capital of India,
amidst the tides of a springing new world order,
the University School of Law and Legal Studies
(USLLS) has noted a record development
within one and a half decades producing well
honed professionals performing equally well in
the areas of litigation, corporate sector, cyber
law and alternative dispute resolution. The
USLLS is attracting students from all over the
length and breadth of the country and abroad. They here have shown their ability to come
up as leaders in advocacy skills, organization of lok adalats, seminars, conferences, moot
court competitions, mock trials, quiz competitions and such other programmes. The
research capabilities and communication skills of our students have been appreciated by
the judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts during their internships with them. Their
regular participation in international moot court/arbitration moot competitions abroad (at
Hong Kong and Vienna) enriches them in their pursuits. Their working with our legal aid
centre and social outreach prorammes and their association with the Delhi State Legal
Services Authority has strengthened their will to work for the society and promotion of
market with fine values.
Long back in 1958, the Setalvad Committee examining the status of legal education in
India had observed that “the main purpose of university legal education seems hitherto, to
have been not the teaching of law as a science or as a branch of learning, but mainly
imparting the students a knowledge of certain principles and provisions of law to enable
them to enter the legal profession”. The USLLS has taken a break from that approach and
is setting standards with the spirit of contributing to the overall development of legal
education and profession in the country.

Extra-Curricular Credentials
Additionally, under the aegis of ‘Srijan’ there are various clubs which aim to ensure the holistic
personality development of the students and in which the law students are an integral part. The
Dramatics Society, ‘Aveksha’ frequently conducts street plays to sensitise people on various
issues like juvenile justice, sexual harassment against women and the criminal justice system.
The Music and Dance Society, ‘Swarmudra’ actively organises music and dance performances
in various fests and events around the year. The Constitution Club, ‘Themis’, regularly organises
lectures, writing competitions on various topics of current constitutional importance. The Literary
Club organises English and Hindi debate competitions in various styles such as conventional,
parliamentary and presidential. The Nature Club promotes the cause of environmentalism and
green justice. The other clubs are the fine arts club, photography club, Enactus.
The students are also invested in the legal aid society. It works to provide access to justice to
marginalized segments of the society. The legal aid society set up in the college often functions
in collaboration with DSLSA (Delhi State Legal Service Authority). Numerous Students have
been given paralegal training and are enrolled as registered paralegal volunteers at DSLSA. They
have participated in various community outreach programmes around the city. There is also a
room provided in the college campus for activities of this society. Any person seeking legal
assistance is welcomed and provided with support by the students.
Internships and Placements
Every year we invite law firms for campus recruitment drive where representatives from various
law firms visit our campus and interact with the students through Pre-Placement Cell followed by
group discussions and interviews for internship and final placement.
