Match the questions and answers.
The stars are still there in the
daytime but the sunlight is so
bright, that we can’t see them.
In space, the sky looks black. On Earth the
air has gases that scatter the sunlight and
make the sky look blue during the day. But
in space there is no air to scatter the
sunlight, so the sky always looks black.
1 Why can’t people breathe in space?
2 What can an astronaut see from
a spaceship window?
3 Is the sky blue in space?
4 Why do stars twinkle?
The moon, the
Earth, stars, maybe
even a satellite.
There is no air
in space.
When you look up at stars,
you are looking through a
thick layer of air that is
moving. This makes it seem
as if the light from the
stars is moving too.
5 Where do the stars go in the daytime?
6 Is the moon a star?
Now ask someone who has not
seen this page to try to answer
the questions.
No, the moon is made of
dust and rock. The light it
shines is only the light of
the sun bouncing off the
moon’s surface.
