Primary Information Night 2015:

Week 3
Primary Information Night 2015:
Term 1
Will be held on Tuesday 17th February. Stage 2 parents will meet in
their child’s classrooms at 5:30pm and Stage 3 parents are invited
to meet at 6:00pm in the year 6 classrooms.
The class information evenings aims to provides parents and
guardians with an opportunity to hear the expectations that the
teachers have for their class, aspects of the curriculum and organisational routines for the class. As this is a general overview it is not possible or appropriate to discuss individual students or their specific needs during this time.
Meeting with your class teacher is not restricted to these evenings. We would encourage you to book a time with your class teacher to discuss specific or particular
needs of your child.

Our gymnastics program is underway and our students have been engaging in a
range of gymnastics activities that develop their strength, coordination and balance. Our instructors Natalie, Michael and the crew have quickly developed a rapport with our kids and their lessons are fast
paced and specifically designed to improve our
student’s abilities. Please pay the $45.00 per
child to the Administration or through our
online provisions as a matter of urgency.
School- Anaphylaxis—What is it?
Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction. It
occurs when a person is exposed to an allergen (such as food or insect bites). We
currently have a number of Anaphylactic students enrolled at Wideview. Many
schools have students with such allergies. As a community we are requesting the
students do not bring nut products to school. Most importantly we remind you
that students should never share their food at school or pressure any other child to
try something to eat.
There will be more detailed information available at the office and we will regularly
publish updates in the newsletter.
Trophies
Any students who won perpetual awards (including sport awards) at Presentation
Day last year and took them home for a family photo, please return them to school
so they can take pride of place in the trophy cabinet.
If you know of anyone who has left the school could you please remind them to do
the same please.

Students turning 8 in 2015
who can swim 50m are invited.
If you have some time to help at the carnival it would be
greatly appreciated. Please contact the Administration
Office on 94561655.
P&C meeting
EVER THOUGHT OF GETTING INVOLVED IN YOUR SCHOOL’S P&C?
Why join the P&C? – P&C is a great way to get involved in supporting your child’s education.
P&C work together with the school towards a number of goals to ensure Wideview PS children
are given the best in education. Your involvement is also a good way to show your child your
commitment to their school and allows you to form connections with other parents/carers, as
well as being an active member of the school community.
What does P&C do? – While they are involved in many activities throughout the school year,
their main purposes are to:
*assist in providing facilities and equipment to the school,
*promote the welfare of students at the school,
*generate community interest in the school and educational matters, and
*provide advice and recommendations to the school concerning the provision of resources and
facilities
How can you help? – P&C welcome volunteers from all walks of life committed to delivering
great outcomes for the students and our school. Anyone interested in getting involved has an
important part to play, from assisting in policy formation to helping out in the canteen or uniform shop.
Your commitment can be minimal – helping out at discos or providing input at our monthly
meetings – or more involved, such as organising a fundraising event.
Any level of involvement makes a real difference. If you’re still unsure about the role you can
play, why not come along to the meeting this Monday night starting at 7pm in the school’s
staffroom

On Friday 5F had a visit from two reptilian friends of Hannah G, Sammy the bearded dragon and Jimmy the
blue tongue lizard. Sammy and Jimmy posed beautifully for 5F to practise their sketching skills and have
inspired some descriptive writing.
Jimmy the Blue Tongue Lizard
Hiding his black frog-like head under the blanket,
sticking out his long blue tongue to try to scare off
these big beasts.
Long tail getting pulled away.
Running hands over his long snake-like body,
feeling the smooth scales flow through fingers.
His claws scraping into the floor as he tries to scatter
away.
Legs pushing off the ground, tongue hissing around at
every beast that tries to scare him,
Sandy
His patterns are amazing with spikes
running all down the side of his body.
His skin was rough ‘n’ tough shades of
different browns. He had a face as
fierce as a tiger, with his eyes soaring
through the sky from child to child.
Looking very precise and proper, sitting
on his royal throne. Lazy as a snail
sometimes and as fast as a bull at others.
Emily B
tail thumping as he tries to escape, then
finally safe at last, safely away.

Last week thanks to the quick services of Paul Bourke a major catastrophe was averted at Wideview.
Some students from WOOSHC had accidently broken a tap stem which then had water cascading onto the
playground. Thanks to the efforts of Paul, who’s sons attend our school , the problem was quickly averted.
His prompt actions, despite finishing work for the day and then returning early the following morning to
complete the job not only saved the school significant costs in repair but in water costs. His actions add further testament to the wonder community support we enjoy at Wideview and add credence to why this is
such a great school.
Thank you Paul for your willingness to support the school even though at the time you were enjoying a well
earned rest and shower at the end of your working day
