Reference case
The German utility of Rheinfelden profited from one of the
first installations of the new remote terminal unit of RTU520
product line. The utility takes care of the production and
distribution of green electricity in Southern Germany. For
the transmission of data to the control center a substation
which offered only limited space was equipped with the new,
compact and modular RTU520 in a pilot project.
At this substation tap position indications, protection
alarms, measured values as well as a circuit breaker position
information are transmitted by RTU520 via satellite connection
to the SCADA system. The modular platform of RTU520
allowed the perfect fit into the existing installation because
the number of integrated input/output modules could be
comfortably customized to the requirements. Thanks to the
compact footprint of RTU520 the utility of Rheinfelden was
able to connect this substation via remote control without
major modifications of the substation. Furthermore, the
appropriate functionality of RTU500 series could be easily
added.
The engineering of the RTU was quickly and easily done by
the customer himself with RTU Wizard. With the 8 guided
steps and the user-friendly interface the RTU520 was
configured and running in only 4 minutes. For the connection
to the satellite modem only minimal special adjustments
were added. Combined with the scalable footprint the
easy engineering and cost-effectiveness make RTU520 the
compact and easy-to-use RTU for small applications.
