Due to the cost pressure caused by the annual decrease of the
compensation for electricity fed into the grid, there is an increasing tendency towards big-surface modules in double-glass
design, particularly with large-scale and open area plants,
as these modules are likely to bring about a cost reduction both
in the production process and in the photovoltaic plant itself.
Due to the given environmental conditions (wind suction, snow
loads, dynamic loads etc.), module sizes are limited in case
of predetermined glass thicknesses, if the modules are supposed to be connected to the respective substructure only at
the edges with clamps. The maximum tolerable tension in the
glass plates and the structural behaviour of the EVA or PVB,
especially at higher temperatures, put clear physical limits to
this kind of application.
Increased bearing capacity, and with this an extension in module measurements, can only be made possible through the application of appropriate fasteners within the module area.
Tensile loads (impact by wind suction), pressure loads (impacts
by wind pressure, weight force and snow load) and also shear
force (roof parallel part of the resulting power vectors) have to
be transferred.
Schletter GmbH is developing appropriate bonding techniques
in cooperation with numerous module manufacturers to connect
these large surface modules in a mechanically optimal manner
to the substructure.
The mounting system OptiBond offers the components and the
technology to mount unframed modules in big PV plants technically optimal and, therefore, also at low cost.
Due to technical reasons, the bonding of the OptiBonds can exclusively be made by the module manufacturer himself. Please
contact your module manufacturer.

Characteristics and features
• The connection points onto the module are optimized by means of
FEM-calculation in such a manner that the module in connection
with the fastening system reaches the maximum bearing capacity
at a predetermined usage of material (glass thickness).
• The OptiBond adhesive anchor is designed in such a manner
that the complete glued surface is evenly loaded and thereby the
transfer of forces is optimized.
• The thickness profile of the adhesive anchor is chosen in such a
manner that the mechanical tensions in the module are reduced
in a controlled manner and consequently no cracks are caused in
the module by tension.
• By means of the application of a punctual fastening instead of a
linear support, thermal tensions caused by different temperature
coefficients and consequently long-term failure are avoided.
• The fastening to the substructure is carried out swiftly and safely
with a hook-in mechanism.
• Process safety during the assembly is granted by a sufficient
tolerance equalization in the connection and an audible snap-in
connection (Klick position locking device).
• The position locking device is
also an anti-theft device for
the modules.
• The bonding is carried out onto
profiles, which have been especially developed by Schletter for
roofs and open areas and grant
maximum load bearing capacity
especially for typical elevation
angles from 20 to 30 degrees.
