EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF ARCHAEOLOGISTS
The European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) was established in 1994 to
promote:
-
the development of archaeological research and the exchange of
archaeological information
-
the management and interpretation of European archaeological heritage
-
the proper ethical and scientific standards for archaeological work
In 1999 the European Association of Archaeologists was given “consultative
status” with the Council of Europe. Since then, the EAA has been formally
involved in all activities at the Council of Europe relevant to archaeological
heritage. Thus, the EAA functions as a monitoring and advisory body on
issues relating to the archaeology of Europe and beyond.
The European Association of Archaeologists’ field of interest is on a global
scale and broad in scope extending from prehistory to recent times, covering
all fields of specializations relevant to archaeology and cultural heritage,
including field archaeology, cultural heritage management, environmental
archaeology, marine and aerial archaeology, industrial archaeology, museum
studies, conservation and restoration, archaeometry, anthropology, art history,
and architectural history.
The EAA has over 11.000 members in 60 countries; individual members,
official or academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations
specialized in archaeology and cultural heritage are among the Association’s
members.

The 2014 EAA CONGRESS IN ISTANBUL
AN OCCASION TO COHERE WITH ARCHAEOLOGY
The 20th annual meeting of European Association of Archaeologists will be
held in Istanbul. The conference will take place September 10 – 14, 2014
and will be hosted by Taşkışla with the Istanbul Technical University
Faculty of Architecture.
Taşkışla, the venue of the Congress, is a 150 year old historic building
conveniently located in the central part of İstanbul, within walking distance
from hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions.
The decision to hold the 20th annual congress of the European Association
of Archaeologists in Istanbul will doubtlessly provide an exceptional
occasion to bring together archaeologists and institutions and organizations
of archaeology and cultural heritage within the historicity of the town.
Istanbul abounds with historic monuments, museums, art galleries, and
exhibitions. The organizing committee considers the EAA Congress as an
exceptional occasion to raise awareness of and generate a feeling of
excitement towards archaeology and cultural heritage, and to share this
incentive with the town.
On the occasion of the EAA Congress, a number of exhibitions, displays,
and public activities will take place in various parts of Istanbul. We thus
anticipate a festive atmosphere sharing cultural assets with the congress
attendants and the people of the town.
