First of all, can we know you a bit more ?
I was born in 1992 Üsküdar. I’m a Dogus University
Department of Psychology Class 2 student. In the scope
of the social awareness lecture in my school I have met
with the Pembe Hanım Association and Mrs Nevval
Sevindi. In June 2008, I got leukemia and I struggled
with the disease for one year. In those times, my biggest
dream was to help the other patients like me and support and help their families and find solutions to their
problems. For this reason, at the university, I have chosen Psychology Department which I love. If we go back
to the Social Awareness lecture, in this lecture, we were
able to work with so many NGO’s but I have chosen a
cancer association to work with. So, our journey with
the Pembe Hanım has started. For one year I worked
at this association as the team leader. At the end of the
semester, our lecture had also ended but I and some of
my friends did not give up working at the Pembe Hanım
Association. Büşra Aktaş , Nilüfer Zülfikar and I together are still working as the Pembe Hanım Association
Young Board Members. We were all tested with cancer
in our lives, and perhaps that’s why we are so much a
cohesive team.
Kocaciğer’i gördünüz mü?
Henüz 22 yaşında olan ve yaklaşık ve 5 yıl önce lösemiye yakalanan Merve Güney, uzun
süre hastalıkla mücadele etti. Doğuş Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü 2. Sınıf öğrencisi olan
Merve, lösemiye karşı farkındalığı arttırmayı amaç edinen Kocaciğer Projesiyle dikkatleri
çekti. Pembe Hanım Derneği Genç Kurul Üyeleri arasında olan Merve, projeyi anlattı.

1992 Üsküdar doğumluyum. Doğuş
Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü 2. Sınıf öğrencisiyim. Pembe Hanım Derneği ve Nevval Sevindi ile tanışmam okulumuzdaki
sosyal sorumluluk dersi kapsamında oldu.
2008 yılı Haziran ayında lösemiye yakalandım ve yaklaşık bir sene boyunca bu
hastalıkla mücadele ettim. O zamanlar en
büyük hayalim benim gibi hasta kardeşlerime ve onların ailelerine yardım etmek
onlara destek olmak, sorunlarına çözüm
bulmaktı. Bu sebeple şu an okuduğum
ve çok sevdiğim bölüm olan Psikoloji’yi
seçtim. Sosyal sorumluluk dersine geri
dönersek bu ders için pek çok STK ile çalışabilecektik fakat, bir kanser derneği ile
çalışmak tam da benim istediğim bir şeydi. Böylece Pembe Hanım ile yolculuğumuz başladı. Bir sene boyunca takım lideri
olarak dernekte çalışmalarımızı sürdürdük.
Yıl sonunda ders bitti ama benim ve diğer
iki arkadaşımın dernekle bağı kopmadı.
Have you seen the Mega LungS?
Merve Güney who is a 22 years old girl and was caught by
leukemia about five years ago. She has struggled with the
disease for a long time. Dogus University Department of
Psychology Class 2 student, Merve drew attention with
Kocaciğer (Mega LungS) Project that aims to raise awareness
especially against lung cancer. Young Board Member of
Pembe Hanım Association, Merve told us her project.

Hepimizin kanser ile sınanmış hayatları var ve belki de bu yüzden bu kadar uyumlu bir ekip olduk.
Kocaciğer Projesi nereden çıktı ve nasıl gelişti ?
2013 yazında Seda Kansu ve ben
bir ilaç firmasının organize ettiği “Bir
Hastanın Yolculuğu” isimli çalışmaya
katıldık. Benim için çok farklı bir deneyimdi. Kendimi ifade etme ve pek
çok bilgi sahibi olma fırsatım oldu.
Fakat biz bu çalışma öncesinde bu
firma için Seda Hanım’la birlikte birkaç proje hazırladık ve bu projeler
firmanın çalışmalarını yoğunlaştırdıkları akciğer kanseri ile ilgiliydi. Biz
akciğer kanseri farkındalığı ile ilgili projeler araştırmaya başladık. Çok
iyi hatırlıyorum bir akşam üzeri Seda
Hanım ile bulduğum projeler ile ilgili ayrıntıları konuşuyorduk internetten üzerinden. Bulduğum projeler
arasından benim en çok ilgimi çeken
MegaLungs projesiydi. Seda Hanım
da benim gibi düşündü ve biz gerçekten bu projeye çok güvendik. Hazırladığımız proje dosyasında sadece
MegaLungs yoktu, diğer başka projelere de yer verdik. Proje dosyamızı teslim ettik ve kısaca tüm projeleri
anlatmaya çalıştık ve onlardan gele-
cek cevabı beklemeye koyulduk. Güzel haberi almamız çok uzun sürmedi
Seda Hanım ve ardından ben MegaLung projesinin kabul edildiğini ve
üzerinden ayrıntıların konuşulması
gerektiğini öğrendik. Gerçekten hem
kendi adıma hem dernek adına çok
mutlu oldum. İnsanlar için yararlı
bir şeyler yapmak kanser farkındalığı yaratmak benim için çok kıymetli. Daha sonra MegaLung yani şimdi
koyduğumuz adıyla Kocaciğer’in çalışmalarına başlamış olduk. Firmayla
pek çok toplantımız oldu. Ben bunların sadece yaz döneminde olanlarına katılabildim. Bu toplantılarda
Kocaciğer’in tüm ayrıntıları nasıl bir
yol izleneceği her şey konuşuldu.
Amerika’dan şişme ciğerimizin sipariş edilmesiyle ise heyecanlı bekleyiş
başlamış oldu. Bu zaman aralığında
tüm görüşmeleri Seda Kansu sürdürdü. Şu an Kocaciğer’in sergilenmesi
az kala geldiğimiz nokta gerçekten
çok heyecan verici. Böyle bir projenin içinde yer almaktan gurur duyuyorum.
Kocaciğerimizle birlikte güzel bir
yolculuğa çıkıyoruz dernekçe ve bu
sorumluluğun bilincindeyiz .Bu projeye hayat veren herkese çok teşekkür ediyorum.Umuyorum ki bunun
gibi daha pek çok güzel çalışmaya
imza atarız ve Nevval Hanım’ın dediği gibi “Yaşama Sevincini Paylaşırız.”
How did the Kocaciğer Project start and how did
it develop?
In the summer of 2013, Seda Kansu and I attended a
workshop “The Journey of a Patient” which was organized by a drug company. It was a very different experience for me. I had the opportunity to have a lot of information and express myself. But, before this workshop,
Ms Seda and I had prepared some projects for that
company and these projects were mainly about lung
cancer which the company focused on. We started
searching about lung cancer awareness projects. I can
remember very well, one day, in the evening, through
internet, Ms Seda and I were talking about the projects
we found. Among the projects I found out, that interested me most was the MegaLungs project. Ms. Seda also
thought like me and we really had much confidence in
this project. In the project file we have prepared, Mega
Lungs was not the only project, we also gave some
place to the other projects. We submitted our project
file in which we summarized all the projects and we
started waiting for reply. It did not take very long for
us to receive the good news. First Ms Seda and then I
learned that the Mega Lungs Project was accepted and
we had to talk about the details. I was really very happy
both for myself and for the Association. Doing something useful for people and creating cancer awareness
are very important to me. Then we started working for
the Mega Lung or with its new name Kocaciğer. We had
many meetings with the company. I can attend only the
summer meetings. In these meetings, all the details of
Kocaciğer and the route of the project had been talked.
After order given to the America for the inflatable lung,
a nervous waiting had started. During these period, all
the communications were made by Ms Seda Kansu.
Today, as its so close to show the Kocaciğer, the point
we reached is so exciting. I am so proud of being a part
of this project.
With our Kocaciğer, we are going to a big journey
and as an association, we all aware of this responsibility. I want to thank everyone who brings this project into
existence. I hope that we can put our signatures under
many other projects in the future and as Mrs Nevval
says I hope “we can share the joy of living”.
