A MESSAGE FOR THE NEW YEAR
Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I
feel the need to thank all of you, who during this blessed year that went
by, gathered around the Church of Christ and supported it in its timeless
journey. During this past year, we made together several important steps
forward, thanks to the untiring efforts of the President Mr. Ted Menounos
and the indefatigable participation of all the invaluable Members of the Parish Council, the Presidents and the members of all church organizations.
First of all, we had a very successful Festival which boosted the Church’s
revenue. Then we renewed the classrooms and corridor of the Greek
School from the bottom up, and enlivened it with excellent teachers. We
added the Greek dance lessons in conjunction with “Lykeion Ellinidon” of
Boston, as well as the Engineering Workshops offered by the MIT Scientist.
I feel obliged also to thank you and point out your heartfelt and kind offerings for the liturgical renovation and decoration of our Church.
However, during this coming New Year, we will need to work even harder in
order to gather in the bosom of the Church our most precious treasure: our
children. Our children who grow up in a society, which not only has distanced itself from Christ, but also slanders and has enmity for Him. This society unfortunately is doomed, since as history has proven many times over,
people that distance themselves from the Lord are annihilated. We however, using our little strength, protected by the infinite mercy of God, will try
to steer back to Christ as many young people as we can.
I pray fervently to the Divine Child Who was just born, to bestow upon you
for the New Year, health, peace and especially enlightenment, so that you
may experience in your hearts His presence on earth!
Beloved, Christ is born – Glorify Him!

ΧΑΙΡΕΤΙΣΜΟΣ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΝ ΚΑΙΝΟΥΡΓΙΟ ΧΡΟΝΟ
Aγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Aισθάνομαι βαθύτατη
υποχρέωση να σας ευχαριστήσω όλους που και αυτή την
ευλογημένη χρονιά μαζευτήκατε γύρω από την Εκκλησία του Χριστού και την στηρίξατε
στο ταξίδι της μέσα στους αιώνες. Την χρονιά που έφυγε κάναμε μαζί πολλά και
σπουδαία βήματα μπροστά, χάρη στην ακαταπόνητη προσπάθεια του Προέδρου Κου
Θόδωρου Μενούνου και την ακάματη προσφορά όλων των πανάξιων μελών του
Εκκλησιαστικού Συμβουλίου, των προέδρων και μελών των οργανισμών. Πρώτα απ’
όλα, ένα πολύ πετυχημένο και από άποψη εσόδων ετήσιο Πανηγύρι. Κατόπιν, την
αλλαγή και την εκ βάθρων ανακαίνιση του Ελληνικού Σχολείου, τόσο σε έμψυχο, όσο
και σε άψυχο υλικό. Τα μαθήματα ελληνικών χορών για τα παιδιά που γίνονται από το
Λύκειο Ελληνίδων Βοστώνης, και τα μαθήματα μηχανολογικών κατασκευών με την
ειδική επιστήμονα του ΜΙΤ. Πως μπορώ ακόμη να μην αναφέρω τις τόσο ευγενικές
προσφορές σας γιά τον καλλωπισμό και την λειτουργική ωραιοποίηση του Ιερού Ναού
μας, με τα πολλά καινούρια πράγματα που προσθέσαμε.
Την χρονιά που μας έρχεται όμως, έχουμε ανάγκη να εργαστούμε πιο σκληρά όλοι για
να μαζέψουμε στην αγκαλιά της Εκκλησίας ότι πιό πολύτιμο έχουμε: τα παιδιά μας. Τα
παιδιά μας, που μεγαλώνουν μέσα σε μιά κοινωνία που έχει απωθήσει το Χριστό στο
περιθώριο, που Τον εχθρεύεται και Τον δυσφημίζει. Αυτή η κοινωνία όμως είναι
καταδικασμένη, γιατί η ιστορία μας έχει αποδείξει ότι λαός που απομακρύνεται από τον
Κύριο αφανίζεται. Εμείς με τις ισχνές δυνάμεις μας θα προσπαθήσουμε,
συνεπικουρούμενοι από το άπειρο έλεος του Θεού, να επιστρέψουμε όσο πιο πολλούς
νέους μπορούμε.
Προσεύχομαι διακαώς στο Θείο Βρέφος που μόλις γεννήθηκε, να σας χαρίζει κατά τον
Νέο Χρόνο υγεία, μακροημέρευση, ειρήνη και προπαντός φωτισμό, για να μπορείτε να
νοιώθετε στις καρδιές σας την επί γης παρουσία Του.

THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
The Jews, through their intense belief in
the Messiah, thought that the promises
that God once gave to their ancestors
would be fulfilled in the future, especially
among those among them who had ancestral relationship with the fathers and patriarchs of their race. However, it was not
only the Jews who had been expecting the
Redeemer of the world. After the fall of
mankind from Paradise, the darkening of
the human mind from sin and the separation from the only source
of life and goodness, God, man’s ardent aspiration creates a redemptive nostalgia. It seems like despite the separation from God,
humanity kept within its genes the memory of this loving relationship that the protoplasts had in Paradise where they were united
with God the Father, and waited for many centuries the advent of
the Divine Redeemer in order to be liberated from the bondage of
death and sin. Indeed anyone studying ancient religions can observe that humanity throughout the ages, kept within them the
heritage of the first revelation of the Supreme Being to man, which
then led them to continuously attempt through various but vain
and unsuccessful ways to approach God and achieve communion
with Him.

However, since man proved to be incapable of raising himself with
his own strength to reach the full knowledge of the One and only
true God, only one option remained; for God to descend Himself
and seek man. The peoples therefore, expected to meet again the
true God through a God-Man, and through him to regain the true
knowledge of the One and only God.
It appears therefore, that the incarnation of God was the only logical and necessary solution to the human drama. St. John the
Chrysostom says: “Since mankind could not ascend, He descended. This is why He descended, and took flesh, so that I
could talk to Him”. Christ our God, came down from the throne of
His divinity, and emptied Himself of His divine glory “born human,
born under law” to take upon Him the sins of all mankind, to purify
our human nature and present it again to the heavenly Father,
unspoiled like it had been in the pre-Fall times. The drama of all of
humanity began to be resolved that quiet night outside the humble
town of Bethlehem, without lights, without glory, with only a few
witnesses of the eternal miracle, the lowly shepherds in the area.
These expectations that humanity has had about rejoining with
God, are documented throughout the ages and are even present
among polytheistic religions. In China for example this expectation
emerges from the 6th century BC, when Confucius awaits with
longing the coming of the “Saint” from the West. According to Chinese scriptures, He would descend from the heavens to a country in the west, He would be wise and would rule over heaven and
earth. The Saint existed before heaven and earth, and was the
Creator of all. He is the only one worthy to be sacrificed to the
supreme ruler of the world, Siang-ti, the Sky. He will bring order
and peace in the world and will reconcile heaven and earth.
Similar expectations are found in ancient Indian and Persian texts.
The Indians have highlighted the strong consciousness of sin and
guilt over their forefathers’ faults against the divine, and expect a
savior with nostalgia. The Buddha, in the texts of Mahayana Buddhism, describes the coming of the “Great Peacemaker”, who will
lead people to salvation through His teachings. Those who will
accept His word and live in moderation will be redeemed from
death, and those who study His sacred Words will be discharged
from their sins and will ascend to Heaven.
The most profound and intense expectation of a God-man as the
Redeemer of mankind however, is to be found among the ancient
Greeks. In Prometheus Bound, by Aeschylus, the hero was punished by Zeus and was sentenced to stay tied forever on a rock,
and be tortured by an eagle that ate bits of his flesh. Prometheus
predicts that his Redeemer will be the child who is born of a virgin
named Io, and God. He will be the Son of God and the son of a
Virgin and his birth will be supernatural. He will destroy the state
of the old gods, and annihilate them and their powers. He will liberate Prometheus and will succeed him in his martyrdom, and
willingly descend to Hades to sacrifice Himself for the salvation of
the prisoner-man who had been convicted for his sins through a
just divine command. Later on, Socrates argues most clearly the
ness, and who will be just until His death, but will be considered
unjust by the people and will suffer humiliation and a tortuous
death on a chunk of wood(!). Referring to these texts of the Greek
philosophers, Saint Clement of Alexandria exclaims: “I don’t think
our Savior could have been confirmed more clearly by the
Greeks”.
But it was not only the ancient Greeks who spoke of the upcoming
God-man, the Romans did as well. The great Roman philosopher
Ciccero, referring to the oracle of the Sibyl Virgins, states that the
coming of a King had been announced from the past. This King
had to be recognized by those who wanted to be saved, and
would come at a time when everything will be governed by one
Master, one God. Similarly the great Latin poet Virgil writes in his
poems about the expected God-Child and the joy in its face when
looking towards the Mother who gave birth to Him, exactly as if
Virgil was observing an icon of Panagia and the Child. Virgil’s
words were so prophetic that Constantine the Great included
them in his discourse that he delivered to the Fathers of the First
Ecumenical Council.
Let us then rejoice ourselves, and ponder on the Holy miracle of
the Incarnation of God the Highest, and join our voice with that of
the Church who has been singing since then:
Christ is born; therefore glorify!
Christ is come from heaven; go and meet Him.
Christ is on earth; arise to Him.
Sing to the Lord, all you who dwell on the earth, and in merry
spirits, O you peoples, praise His birth.
For He is glorified.

η Γεννηση Του κυριου
Οι Ιουδαίοι, μέσα στον έντονο μεσσιανισμό τους,
πίστευαν ότι οι επαγγελίες που έδωσε κάποτε ο
Θεός στους προγόνους τους θα εκπληρωθούν
οπωσδήποτε στο μέλλον, και μάλιστα μόνο
σ’εκείνους που είχαν γενεαλογική σχέση με τους
πατέρες και πατριάρχες της φυλής τους. Δεν ήταν
όμως μόνο οι Ισραηλίτες που ανέμεναν το
Λυτρωτή του κόσμου. Μετά την έκπτωση του ανθρώπινου
γένους από τον Παράδεισο, το σκοτασμό του νου του από την
αμαρτία και την απομάκρυνση από τη μοναδική Πηγή της Ζωής
και της Αγαθότητας, το Θεό, η θεανθρώπινη προσδοκία αποτελεί
μία διακαή λυτρωτική νοσταλγία. Φαίνεται ότι παρ’όλη την
απομάκρυνση της από το Θεό, η προχριστιανική ανθρωπότητα
κράτησε μέσα στα γονίδια της την ανάμνηση αυτής της
αγαπητικής σχέσης που είχαν οι Πρωτόπλαστοι μέσα στον
Παράδεισο με το Θεό και Πατέρα και περίμενε και εκείνη μέσα
στους αιώνες τον ερχομό του Θεϊκού Λυτρωτή που θα την
λύτρωνε από τα δεσμά του θάνατου και της αμαρτίας. Πράγματι
μελετώντας κανείς τις αρχαίες θρησκείες, διαπιστώνει τη
συγκινητική προσπάθεια των λαών, που έχοντας μέσα τους
κληροδοτημένη την αρχαία εκείνη εμπειρία της πρώτης
αποκάλυψης του Υπερτάτου Οντος στον άνθρωπο, τολμούσαν
με διάφορους αλλά μάταιους και ανεπιτυχείς τρόπους να
προσεγγίσουν το Θεό γιά να έρθουν ξανά σε κοινωνία μ’Αυτόν.
Γι’αυτό, αφού δεν μπόρεσε ο άνθρωπος με τις δικές του
δυνάμεις ν’ανυψωθή μέχρι την πλήρη γνώση του Ενός, και
μόνου, και πραγματικού Θεού, μόνο μία λύση απόμενε, να
κατέβει ο Ιδιος ο αναζητούμενος Θεός στον άνθρωπο. Στον
προσδοκώμενο Θεάνθρωπο περίμεναν οι λαοί να γνωρίσουν τον
αληθινό Θεό, δηλαδή ν’αποκτήσουν ξανά την αληθινή
θεογνωσία, και να επανασυνδεθούν μ’Αυτόν, να ξαναγυρίσουν
στον χρυσόν αιώνα της αρχικής παραδείσιας κατάστασης.
Οι μαρτυρημένες εκδηλώσεις αυτής της θεανθρώπινης
προσδοκίας είναι πολλές ανάμεσα και στους πολυθεϊστικούς
λαούς. Ετσι στην Κίνα αυτή η προσδοκία προβάλλει από τον 6ο
πΧ αιώνα, όταν ο Κομφούκιος περιμένει με νοσταλγία τον
ερχομό του “Αγιου” από τη Δύση. Σύμφωνα με την κινεζική
γραμματεία, αυτός επρόκειτο να αποσταλεί από τον ουρανό στις
δυτικές χώρες, θα γνώριζε τα πάντα, και θα είχε κάθε εξουσία
στον ουρανό και στη γη. Ο Αγιος αυτός, υπήρχε προ του
ουρανού και της γης, και είναι ο ποιητής και δημιουργός όσων
υπάρχουν πάνω σ’αυτά. Αυτός και μόνο είναι άξιος να θυσιαστεί
στον υπέρτατο δεσπότη του κόσμου, τον Siang-ti, τον Ουρανό.
Θ’αποκαταστήσει την τάξη και την ειρήνη στον κόσμο
συμφιλιώνοντας τον ουρανό με την γη.
Παρόμοιες προσδοκίες παρουσιάζονται και στα αρχαία Ινδικά και
Περσικά κείμενα. Οι Ινδοί έχουν έκδηλη την ισχυρή συνείδηση
περί αμαρτιών και προπατορικής ενοχής έναντι του θείου, και
αναμένουν με νοσταλγία ένα λυτρωτή. Ο Βούδας στα κείμενα του
Μαχαγιάνα Βουδισμού, περιγράφει την έλευση του “Μεγάλου
Ειρηνευτή”, που θα οδηγήσει τους ανθρώπους στη σωτηρία με
τη διδασκαλία του. Οσοι θα δεχθούν το λόγο του και θα ζουν με
εγκράτεια, θα λυτρωθούν από το θάνατο, με τη μελέτη δε των
ιερών λόγων του θα απαλάσσονται από τις αμαρτίες τους και θα
ανέρχονται στον ουρανό.
Εκεί όμως που προβάλλει πιό έκδηλη και έντονη η προσδοκία
του θεάνθρωπου λυτρωτή είναι ανάμεσα στους αρχαίους
Ελληνες. Στον Προμηθέα Δεσμώτη του Αισχύλου, ο ήρωας
τιμωρήθηκε από το Δία να μείνει δεμένος αιώνια σε ένα βράχο
και να βασανίζεται από έναν αετό ο οποίος κάθε λίγο του έτρωγε
τη σάρκα. Ο Προμηθέας προλέγει ότι ο λυτρωτής του θα είναι το
παιδί το οποίο θα γεννηθεί από μία παρθένο, την Ιώ, και τον
Θεό. Θα είναι υιός Θεού και υιός Παρθένου και θα γεννηθεί
υπερφυσικά. Θα καταλύσει το κράτος των παλαιών θεών και θα
ημων ιησουΧριστου
αφανίσει αυτούς και τη δύναμη τους. Θα λυτρώσει τον
Προμηθέα διαδεχόμενος αυτόν στο μαρτύριο του, και
κατεβαίνοντας εκούσια στο σκοτεινό Αδη θα γίνη
εξιλαστήριο θύμα γιά τη λύτρωση του δεσμώτη, του
ανθρώπου που είχε καταδικαστεί γιά την αμαρτία του με
δίκαιη θεϊκή εντολή. Την εποχή του Σωκράτη προβάλλει
πλέον ξεκάθαρα η θεανθρώπινη προσδοκία μέσα από το
κείμενο της απολογίας του αρχαίου φιλοσόφου που έγραψε ο
Πλάτωνας. Εκεί φέρεται ο Σωκράτης να μιλάει στους δικαστές
του γιά κάποιο προσδοκώμενο Θεόπεμπτο, που θα τον έχει
στείλει ο Θεός, ο οποίος θα φέρει στον κόσμο αφύπνιση και
εγρήγορση, θα είναι δικαιότατος μέχρι το θάνατο του, θα
θεωρηθεί όμως από τους ανθρώπους άδικος και θα υποστεί
ταπεινώσεις, εξευτελισμούς και μαρτυρικό θάνατο πάνω στο
“ξύλο”. Αναφερόμενος σ’αυτά τα κείμενα των Ελλήνων
φιλοσόφων ο Αγιος Κλήμης ο Αλεξανδρείας αναφωνεί: “Δεν
νομίζω ότι μπορούσε να επικυρωθεί πιό σαφέστερα ο Σωτήρας
μας από τους Ελληνες”.
Δεν είναι όμως μόνο οι Ελληνες που μίλησαν γιά τον επερχόμενο
Θεάνθρωπο αλλά και οι Ρωμαίοι. Ο μεγάλος φιλόσοφος
Κικέρων, αναφερόμενος στον χρησμό των Σιβυλλών Παρθένων
λέει ότι είχε αναγγελθεί από παλιά η έλευση ενός βασιλιά τον
οποίο όφειλαν να αναγνωρίσουν εκείνοι που ήθελαν να σωθούν,
και ότι ερχόταν μία εποχή που παντού θα κυβερνάει ένας
Δάσκαλος, ο Θεός. Παρόμοια γράφει στα ποιήματα του και ο
Βιργίλιος που αναφέρεται και αυτός στο Προσδοκώμενο
θεογέννητο Παιδί, του οποίου “βλέπει” το μειδίαμα προς τη
Μητέρα που το εκυοφόρησε. Είναι τόσο προφητικά αυτά που
έγραψε ο Βιργίλιος, που ο Μ. Κωνσταντίνος αναφέρθηκε σ’αυτά
και τα διάβασε στο λόγο που εξεφώνησε προς τους Πατέρες της
Α’ Οικουμενικής Συνόδου.
Αυτή λοιπόν η ενανθρώπηση του Θεού ήταν η μόνη λογική και
εναπομένουσα και αναγκαία λύση στο ανθρώπινο δράμα. Λέει ο
Αγιος Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος: “Επειδή η ανθρωπότητα δεν
μπορούσε ν’ανεβεί προς τα άνω, Αυτός κατέβηκε κάτω. Γι’αυτό
κατέβηκε, γι’αυτό ανέλαβε σάρκα, γιά να συνομιλήσω εγώ
μ’Αυτόν”. Ο Χριστός ο Θεός κατέβηκε από τον θρόνο της
θεότητος και άδειασε-κένωσε τον εαυτό του από τη θεϊκή Του
δόξα “γινόμενος άνθρωπος, γινόμενος υπό νόμον”, γιά να
αναλάβει πάνω του τις αμαρτίες όλης της ανθρωπότητος, να
εξαγνίσει την ανθρώπινη φύση μας και να την παρουσιάσει
καθαρή και πάλι στον ουράνιο Πατέρα όπως ήταν στην
Προπτωτική εποχή. Το δράμα του ανθρώπινου γένους άρχισε να
λύνεται εκείνη την ήσυχη νύχτα στην ταπεινή Βηθλεέμ, χωρίς
φώτα, χωρίς τυμπανοκρουσίες, με μερικούς μόνο μάρτυρες του
προαιώνιου θαύματος, τους ταπεινους βοσκούς της περιοχής.
Ας χαρούμε λοιπόν και ας γιορτάσουμε και μεις. Ας
αναλογιστούμε με μακάριο λογισμό το μέγα θαύμα της Θεϊκής
Ενανθρώπησης, και ας ενώσουμε τις φωνές μας με τη μητέρα
Εκκλησία που το υμνεί εδώ και αιώνες ψάλλοντας:
Χριστὸς γεννᾶται, δοξάσατε·
Χριστὸς ἐξ οὐρανῶν, απαντήσατε·
Χριστὸς ἐπὶ γῆς, ὑψώθητε· ᾄσατε τῷ
Κυρίῳ πᾶσα ἡ γῆ καὶ ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ,
ανυμνήσατε λαοί, ὅτι δεδόξασται.

The Circumcision of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Η Περιτομη Του Κυριου Ημων Ιησου Χριστου
On the first day of the year, each year, we
celebrate the circumcision of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Circumcision was performed on all male children
after the mandate that God gave to Abraham, to
circumcise them on the 8th day after their birth, as a
sign of the testament between God and his descendants. By subjecting Himself to circumcision, our
Lord proved that He had not come to abolish the
Law but rather to compliment it, and that He had
assumed true human nature. The theology which
resides deeply in our ecclesiastical hymns describes this
fact in one of the «troparia» of the day: «The Savior, condescending to the race of men, in swaddling clothes, accepted circumcision, He did not abhor the cutting of His
flesh…».
Κατά την πρώτη ημέρα του νέου ετους
εορτάζουμε την περιτομή του Κυρίου μας. Η
περιτομή εφαρμοζόταν σε όλα τα αρσενικά
παιδιά μετά από την εντολή που είχε δώσει
από την αρχή ο Θεός στον Αβραάμ, να
περιτέμνονται την όγδοη ημέρα μετά τη
γέννηση τους, σαν σημάδι της διαθήκης του
Θεού με τους απογόνους του. Περιτεμνόμενος
ο Κύριος μας, απέδειξε του λόγου Του το
αληθές, το ότι δηλαδή δεν είχε έλθει για να
καταργήσει το Νόμο αλλά για να τον
συμπληρώσει. Η θεολογία η οποία είναι βαθειά εδραιωμένη μέσα
στους εκκλησιαστικούς μας ύμνους, περιγράφει το γεγονός αυτό
μέσω ενός τροπαρίου που ψάλλεται εκείνη την ημέρα:
“Κατερχόμενος με τη θέληση του ο Σωτήρ προς το γένος των
ανθρώπων, καταδέχθηκε να περιβληθή με τα σπάργανα· και δεν
αποστράφηκε την περιτομή της σάρκας…”.
St. Paul looked deeper into the relationship between circumcision –the act of the Law- and the salvation
of humanity, and stated: “ we know that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus
Christ” (Gal. 2:15-16). Both St. Paul and later on, our
Church, preach that man’s salvation is connected to his
rebirth, his enlightenment and his deification. The Law had
been given during the Old Testament after the fall from
Paradise in order to prepare mankind for the incarnation of
the God Word. The Law represented the medicine that
would cure the soul from passions.
Ο Απόστολος Παύλος αναλύει με ωραίο τρόπο τη σχέση
ανάμεσα στα έργα του Νόμου –την περιτομή- και στη σωτηρία του
ανθρώπου λέγοντας: «Γνωρίζουμε ότι ο άνθρωπος δεν
δικαιώνεται από τα έργα του νόμου αλλά από την πίστη του στον
Ιησού Χριστό» (Γαλ. 2,15-16). Και ο Απόστολος Παύλος, και μετά
από αυτόν η Εκκλησία, διδάσκουν ότι η δικαίωση του ανθρώπου
συνδέεται με την αναγέννηση του, το φωτισμό του νου του και τη
θέωση του. Οι διατάξεις του Νόμου είχαν δοθεί στην Π. Διαθήκη
μετά την πτώση από τον Παράδεισο για να προετοιμάσουν τους
ανθρώπους για την εναθρώπηση του Θεού Λόγου. Ηταν το
φάρμακο που δόθηκε για να θεραπεύσει τις καρδιές από τα πάθη.
The Holy Fathers further discussed the theological
meaning of Christ’s circumcision and provided us with
many truthful thoughts. St. Epiphanios of Cyprus preaches
that circumcision prepared and served man until the baptism came, which was seen as more powerful, because
through that, we are freed from our sins and we receive the
seal of Jesus Christ. St. John from Damascus states that
circumcision represents an attempt at separating ourselves
from bodily pleasures and harmful wishes. In the teaching
of St. Maxim the Confessor we see that circumcision is the
name for cutting-off the passionate relation of the soul to
the body.
Through circumcision men became good Israelites, God’s
chosen people. Through Baptism we gain spiritual birth and
true son-ship. John the Evangelist emphases: «As many as
received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, even to those who believe in His name: who were
born, not of blood, nor of the will of man, but of God» (Jn.
1:12-13).
Therefore Christ’s circumcision suggests to us the
circumcision of the heart. Through the sacramental and
ascetic life of our Church we become members of the body
of Christ. Therefore Christ’s condescension becomes our
ascension to Heavens.

Οι Αγιοι Πατέρες ανέλυσαν τη θεολογική σημασία της
περιτομής του Χριστού και μας παρέδωσαν πολλές θεολογικές
αλήθειες. Ο Αγιος Επιφάνειος Κύπρου, διδάσκει ότι η περιτομή
προετοίμασε τον άνθρωπο μέχρις ότου ήρθε το Βάπτισμα που
είναι ισχυρότερο από την περιτομή, διότι με αυτό απαλασσόμαστε
από τις αμαρτίες μας και παίρνουμε τη σφραγίδα του Ιησού
Χριστού. Ο Αγιος Ιωάννης Δαμασκηνός διευκρινίζει ότι με το να
περιτεμνόμαστε είναι σαν να απαρνούμαστε και να
απομακρυνόμαστε από τις σωματικές ηδονές και τις άχρηστες και
βλαβερές επιθυμίες. Επίσης ο Αγιος Μάξιμος ο Ομολογητής
διδάσκει ότι η περιτομή εικονίζει το χωρισμό της εμπαθούς
σχέσεως ανάμεσα στην ψυχή και στο σώμα. Οι Πατέρες χωρίς
εξαίρεση είχαν ερμηνεύσει την περιτομή της παλαιάς Διαθήκης
σαν μία πνευματική και όχι σωματική διαδικασία, σαν περιτομή
της καρδιάς του ανθρώπου κατά την προσπάθεια του να ενωθεί
με το Θεό.
Διά μέσου της περιτομής οι άνθρωποι εγίνοντο καλοί
Ισραηλίτες, ο περιούσιος λαός του Θεού. Διά μέσου του
Βαπτίσματος αποκτούμε την πνευματική αναγέννηση και την
πραγματική υιοθεσία. Ο Αγιος Ιωάννης ο Ευαγγελιστής αναφέρει
με έμφαση: “Εις όσους Τον εδέχθηκαν έδωσε εξουσία να γίνουν
παιδιά του Θεού, εις εκείνους δηλαδή που πιστεύουν εις το όνομά
Του, οι οποίοι ούτε από αίματα, ούτε από το θέλημα σαρκός, ούτε
από το θέλημα ανδρός αλλά από τον Θεόν εγεννήθηκαν” (Ιω. 1:12
-13).
Γι’ αυτό και γιά μας η Περιτομή του Κυρίου συμβολίζει την
περιτομή της καρδιάς. Μέσα από την μυστηριακή και ασκητική
ζωή της Εκκλησίας μας γινόμαστε μέλη του Σώματος του Χριστού.
Ετσι η κάθοδος του Κυρίου στον κόσμο γίνεται αιτία γιά δική μας
άνοδο στα Επουράνια.

SOMEONE’S LIFE THIS YEAR….
WE ARE ALL BATTLING SOME SORT OF BATTLE….
I showered and shaved.............. I adjusted my tie.
I got there and sat.............. In a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in prayer......... As I closed my eyes..
I saw the shoe of the man next to me..... Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side...... I thought, 'Why must our soles touch?'
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much.
A prayer began : 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes, has no pride.
They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!'
'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on.
The shoe man said............... A quiet 'Amen.'
I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again.
Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?
'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, Glancing toward the floor..
Then the prayer was ended........... And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud...... Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters........ His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man's voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering...... And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out............ What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft 'clink' . As when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me............ To tears, and that's no lie..
It was the same for the shoe man.... For tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service...... As is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow.............. And wanted to meet the shoe man.
So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess.
But I thanked him for coming......... For being our guest.
He said, 'My names' Charlie............ I'm glad to meet you, my friend.'
There were tears in his eyes........ But he had a large, wide grin.
'Let me explain,' he said........... Wiping tears from his eyes.
'I've been coming here for months.... And you're the first to say 'Hi.''
'I know that my appearance............'Is not like all the rest.
'But I really do try.................'To always look my best.'
'I always clean and polish my shoes 'Before my very long walk.
'But by the time I get here..........'They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.'
My heart filled with pain.......... And I swallowed to hide my tears.
As he continued to apologize............ For daring to sit so near
He said, 'When I get here..............'I know I must look a sight.
'But I thought if I could touch you..' Then maybe our souls might unite.'
I was silent for a moment........... Knowing whatever was said
Would pale in comparison... I spoke from my heart, not my head.
'Oh, you've touched me,' I said......'And taught me, in part;
'That the best of any man...............'Is what is found in his heart.'
The rest, I thought,..................... This shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am... That his dirty old shoe touched my soul
You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life.

“PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION”
Happy New Year from the Dormition PTO
Committee. We hope you had a wonderful
Christmas and hope that Christ's birth brings
you hope and comfort in the lives of you and your families. We
are pleased to report that our participation and support levels
have increased from our families. On 11/17/12, we celebrated the
Divine Liturgy with Father Konstantinos, Father Gregory, staff and
residents of the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton, MA. There
were over 30 parishioners in attendance. The home is the only
Hellenic Nursing home in New England and 1 out of 3 Orthodox
Nursing Homes in the USA. Father Gregory welcomed us to the
home and stated that we were only the 3rd church from the New
England Metropolis to visit the nursing home out of the 62 parishes within the last decade or more. He mentioned that the residents in the summer do not have Liturgy as their is no other priest
on staff there. Father Gregory thought it would be thoughtful and
kind, if we and other parishes visited the residents of the
home and celebrated the Divine Liturgy more often throughout the
year and especially during the summer.
When we met with the HWBA staff and President Vicky
Kechris, we presented our combined parish donation of approximately $1,100.00 to help with the construction of the new Alzheimer's unit.
Special thanks to those individuals who
made financial donations and to our children who made wonderful
holiday decorations with the assistance from Maria Sfikas, Fannoula Eliades, Tina Armand and Eleni Raschi. These decorations
were posted in some of the seniors' rooms to bring them some
holiday cheer. Also we thank the Parish Council and Mr. Nick
Boulas, who contacted the Cambridge Health Alliance, which provided round trip ground transportation for many of our parishioners. Lets go and visit our Orthodox seniors again this summer. Hope you will join us again.
On 12/09/12, we were fortunate to have Santa Claus visit
our children at our annual holiday communion breakfast. The
children of the Greek school entertained the entire parish with
Greek Christmas Carols and poems. A special gift and cake was
present by the PTO Committee to Presbytera Anna as we all celebrated her name day. Thank you to Father, our Greek School
teachers and all the volunteers who made the breakfast a success
by donating their time, talents and resources. (See list of names
below). On 12/15/12 about 19 parishioners traveled to the
Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA, who visited Santa Claus, enjoyed
the holiday light displays, rode the train and amusement
rides. On 12/24/12, the children of our parish participated in
the Christmas pageant. Over 25 children from our parish retold
the story of Christ's birth splendidly. Luke Bressette, at only a few
months old, played the role of baby Jesus convincingly. Thank
you to Taso Dres, Eleni Raschi, Kyria Ourania and Georgia
Ververis for providing the practice lessons and direction for our
children for this event. The PTO Committee also wanted to
wish a very Happy Birthday to both Father Konstantinos (12/26)
and Presbytera Anna (12/24). Xronia Polla!
Next on our agenda will be our first parish visit to
the Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook,
NH with a 6 p.m. check in on Friday, 2/22/13 through and including Sunday, 2/24/13 with a 12 p.m. check out. Please call 1-781710-4646 or e-mail [email protected] no later than 1/27/13
to reserve and pay for your private room and bath in the new retreat house. Visit mbcamp.org for more information regarding our
facilities.
A suggested minimum donation for 5 meals, activities for
the youth/children and accommodations for 2 nights and 3 days is
only $100.00 per person in order to cover the retreat home's out
of pocket expenses. Transportation to the retreat is on your own
or by carpooling. If you wish on Saturday, 2/23/13, you could ski
or snow tube at your own expense at Pat's Peak. We hope that
many of our families will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to visit and enjoy our camp for the first time with our Dormition
parish. On Sunday, 3/17/13, St. Patrick's Day, we will hold our
annual PTO Bake Sale. We will need your assistance in order to
make this a successful fundraiser for our children. Please mark
your calendars for all these events. If you have any questions or
require more information regarding the activities mentioned above
then please do not hesitate to contact us. As always we wish
your year is filled with the best of health and Christ's love, peace

ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΟΝ ΣΥΛΛΟΓΟ ΔΑΣΚΑΛΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΚΗΔΕΜΟΝΩΝ
Ευτυχισμένο το Νέο Έτος από την Επιτροπή του PTO της Κοίμησης της Θεοτοκου. Ευχόμαστε να περάσατε
υπέροχα Χριστούγεννα. Ελπίζουμε ότι η Γέννηση του Χριστού εφέρε ελπίδα και χαρά στη ζωή σας και στις
οικογένειές σας. Βρισκόμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να σας πληροφορήσουμε ότι η συμμετοχή σας και η
υποστήριξη από τις οικογένειες σας έχει μεγαλώσει. Στις 11/17/12, γιορτάσαμε την Θεία Λειτουργία με τον π.
Κωνσταντίνο, τον π. Γρηγόριο, το προσωπικό και τους τροφίμους του Ελληνικού Γηροκομείου στο Canton, MA.
Υπήρχαν πάνω από 30 ενοριτες μας παρόντες. Tο Ιδρυμα αυτό είναι το μόνο Ελληνικό Γηροκομείο στη Νέα Αγγλία και
1 από τα 3 Ορθόδοξα Γηροκομεία στις ΗΠΑ. Ο π. Γρηγόριος εξέφρασε την ικανοποίησή του για την επισκεψη μας εκεί,
και δήλωσε ότι ειμασταν η 3η μόνο εκκλησία από από τις 62 ενορίες της Μητρόπολης Νέας Αγγλίας που επισκεφθηκε
το Γηροκομείο κατά την τελευταία δεκαετία ή και περισσότερο. Ανέφερε ότι οι τρόφιμοι το καλοκαίρι δεν έχουν
Λειτουργία γιατι δεν πάει κανένας ιερέας εκεί. Ο π. Γρηγόριος πιστεύει ότι θα ήταν χριστιανικό και ευγενικο αν και άλλες
ενορίες επισκέπτοντουσαν τους κατοίκους του και γιόρταζαν την Θεία Λειτουργία πιο συχνά όλο το χρόνο και ιδιαίτερα
τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. Όταν συναντηθήκαμε με το προσωπικό του HWBA και την Πρόεδρο κ. Βίκυ Κεχρή,
προσφέραμε μια δωρεά της ενορίας μας της τάξεως των $ 1,100.00 για να βοηθήσουμε με την κατασκευή της νεας
μονάδας του Αλτσχάιμερ. Ιδιαίτερες ευχαριστίες πάνε σ’ εκείνους που έκαναν τις οικονομικές δωρεές και στα παιδιά μας
που έκαναν υπέροχα εορταστικεά χειροτεχνήματα με τη βοήθεια της Μαρίας Σφήκα, Φαννουλας Ηλιάδη, Τίνας Αρμαν
και Ελένης Ραση. Αυτές οι διακοσμήσεις τοποθετηθηκαν σε ορισμένα από τα δωμάτια των ηλικιωμένων, για να τους
προσφέρουνουν μία εορταστικη χαρά. Επίσης θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε το Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο, που επικοινώνησε
με το Cambridge Health Alliance και προέβλεψε για την μεταφορά μετ’επιστροφης για πολλούς από τους ενορίτες μας.
Ας πάμε να επισκεφθουμε τους ορθόδοξους ηλικιωμένους μας και πάλι αυτό το καλοκαίρι. Ελπίζουμε οτι θα ελθετε μαζί
μας και πάλι.
Στις 12/09/12, είχαμε την χαρά να υποδεχθούμε τον Άγιο Βασίλη που επισκέφτηκε τα παιδιά μας στο ετήσιο Εορταστικο
Πρωινό της Κοινότητας. Τα παιδιά του Ελληνικού Σχολείου διασκεδασαν ολοκληρη την ενορία με τα Ελληνικά Κάλαντα
και με Χριστουγεννιάτικα ποιήματα. Ένα ξεχωριστό δώρο και μιά τούρτα προσφερθηκαν στην Πρεσβυτέρα Άννα από την
Επιτροπή του PTO καθως γιόρταζε την γιορτή της. Ενα ευχαριστώ στον Ιερέα μας, τους δασκαλους του Έλληνικου μας
Σχολειου και όλους τους εθελοντές που έκαναν το Πρωινό επιτυχημέν με την προσφορα του χρόνου τους, των ταλέντων
τους και της οικονομικής προσφοράς τους. (Δείτε τη λίστα με τα ονόματα στην σελιδα 10). Στις 12/15/12, περίπου 19
ενορίτες ταξίδεψαν στον σιδηροδρομο του Edaville στο Carver, MA. Επισκέφθηκαν τον Άγιο Βασίλη, απήλαυσαν τα
διακοσμητικα φωτα, οδήγησαν το τρένο καθώς και το λούνα παρκ. Στις 12/24/12, τα παιδιά της ενορίας μας συμμετείχαν
στη Χριστουγεννιάτικη Παρασταση. Πάνω από 25 παιδιά επανέλαβαν υπέροχα την ιστορία της Γέννησης του Χριστού.
Ο Luke Bressette, λίγων μολις μηνών, έπαιξε με πειστικότητα το ρόλο του Ιησού Βρέφους. Θερμότατες ευχαριστίες
απευθύνουμε στον Τάσο Ντρες, την Ελένη Ραση, την κυρια Ουρανία και την Γεωργία Βερβέρη για την ευθύνη και την
επίβλεψη της πρακτικής εξασκήσεως που έκαναν τα παιδιά μας για την εκδήλωση αυτή. Η Επιτροπή του PTO θα ήθελε
επίσης να ευχηθή Χρόνια Πολλά τόσο στον π. Κωνσταντίνο (12/26) οσο και στην Πρεσβυτέρα Άννα (12/24). Χρόνια σας
Πολλά.
Επόμενη εκδήλωση μας θα είναι η πρώτη επίσκεψη της ενορίας μας στον Κέντρο της Πίστης και Πολιτιστικής
Κληρονομιας του Άγιου Μεθοδίου, στο Contoocook, NH. Check-in των αποσκευών ειναι στις 6:00 μ.μ. την Παρασκευή,
2/22/13. Η διαμονη ειναι μεχρι και την Κυριακή, 2/24/13, με αναχωρηση στις 12 το μεσημερι. Παρακαλώ καλέστε στο 1781-710-4646 ή στείλτε e-mail στο [email protected] το αργότερο μέχρι 1/27/13, για να εξασφαλισετε και να

Την Κυριακή, 3/17/13, Ημέρα του Αγίου Πατρικίου, θα πραγματοποιήσουμε το ετήσιο Bake-Sale του PTO. Θα
χρειαστούμε την υποστήριξη σας για να επιτύχουμε την συγκέντρωση χρημάτων για τις δραστηριότητες των παιδιών
μας. Σημειώστε στα ημερολόγια σας όλες αυτές τις δραστηριότητες. Αν έχετε οποιεσδήποτε απορίες ή χρειάζεστε
περισσότερες πληροφορίες σχετικά με τις δραστηριότητες που αναφέρονται παραπάνω, τότε παρακαλούμε να μην
διστάσετε να επικοινωνήσετε μαζί μας. Όπως πάντα, σας ευχόμαστε χρόνια πολλά γεματα υγεία, την αγάπη του

News from our Sunday School
“A Teaching Ministry”
The children have spent the first part of our school year learning the stories in the Old Testament
building up to the birth of Jesus. They have met Noah and Joseph, Jonah and Moses, Daniel, Adam and Eve
and hopefully understand that while there were good people in the world so many were not following God’s
rules and that is why he sent us His Son. The second half of the year will be spent learning about Jesus and
His teachings including the parable leading up to Easter and His sacrifice for our salvation. We have also
spent part of each class learning about our Orthodox saints. They get so excited each week hearing the wonderful stories of brave men and women who stood by their faith in God. We encourage the kids to talk about
their lessons on the ride home from church each week and we hope that you ask them questions as well as
taking a look at the take home sheets and the crafts they have made. It is so important that these lessons are
reinforced so we can build on them each week. This is also another reason it is important that they are in
church each week so they don’t miss a lesson and fall behind. I am so happy to see so many of the children
who have been attending church and classes each week.

Τα παιδιά πέρασαν το πρώτο μέρος της σχολικής χρονιάς μας μαθαίνοντας τις ιστορίες της Παλαιάς
Διαθήκης μεχρι την γέννηση του Ιησού. Έχουν συναντησει τον Νώε και τον Ιωσήφ, τον Ιωνά και τον Μωυσή,
τον Δανιήλ, τον Αδάμ και την Εύα και ελπίζω να κατάλαβαν ότι, ενώ υπήρχαν καλοί άνθρωποι στον κόσμο
πολλοι δεν ακολουθούσαν τα διδάγματα του Θεού και γι 'αυτό μας έστειλε τον Υιό Του. Το δεύτερο εξάμηνο
του έτους θα περάση μάθαινοντας για τον Χριστό και τη διδασκαλία Του, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των
παραβολών μέχρι το Πάσχα και την θυσία Του για τη σωτηρία μας. Έχουμε αφιερώσει ένα μέρος της
διδασκαλιας για την εκμάθηση των Ορθοδόξων Αγίων μας. Τα παιδια ενθουσιαζοντε κάθε εβδομάδα
άκουγοντας τις υπέροχες ιστορίες των γενναίων ανδρών και γυναικών, που στάθηκαν ακλόνητοι με την πίστη
τους στον Θεό. Ενθαρρύνουμε τα παιδιά να μιλουν για τα μαθήματά τους μετά την επιστροφη τους από την
εκκλησία κάθε εβδομάδα και σας συμβουλεύουμε να τους κανετε ερωτήσεις, καθώς επισης να ριχνετε μια
ματιά στα έντυπα που φερνουν σπίτι και στα
χειροτεχνήματα που έχουν κάνει. Είναι πολυ
σημαντικό το μαθήμα της Κυριακής να
επαναλαμβάνεται στο σπίτι κάθε φορά, για να
μπορούμε κάθε εβδομάδα να προσθέτουμε
καινούριες γνώσεις. Αυτός είναι επίσης ένας
σημαντικός λογος να έρχονται στην εκκλησία
κάθε Κυριακή, έτσι ώστε να μην χάσουν ούτε ενα
μάθημα και μεινουν πίσω. Είμαι πολύ χαρούμενη
που βλέπω τόσα πολλά από τα παιδιά που
έρχονται στην εκκλησία και στα μαθήματα κάθε
εβδομάδα.

A Financial Note from the Treasurers
Dear Friends,
Cookie and I would like to thank everyone for your help and patience in 2012, as we were busy supporting the
7 Central Street renovation project, the Greek School Classroom upgrade project, minor projects throughout
the church, in addition to meeting the church’s normal daily financial obligations. At the last General Assembly, we did not have quorum when we presented the budget for 2013, therefore a budget was not approved. We will meet again early in 2013 to get this approved. At the same time, we will provide a summary
of 2012 finances. We also hope to have all audits complete by the end of March. As we enter 2013, we look
forward to your ideas on how the treasurers can better serve you and the church.

Η Cookie και εγω θα θελαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε τον καθενα απο σας για τη βοήθεια και την υπομονή σας
κατά το 2012, καθώς ειμασταν απασχολημένοι υποστήριζοντας το έργο ανακαίνισης της 7ης Κεντρικής Οδου,
το έργο αναβάθμισης των ταξεων του Ελληνικού Σχολειου, μικρων έργων σε όλη την εκκλησία, όπως επισης
με την εκπλήρωση των καθημερινων οικονομικων υποχρεώσεων της εκκλησίας. Κατά την τελευταία Γενική
Συνέλευση, δεν είχαμε απαρτία όταν παρουσίασαμε τον Προϋπολογισμό για το 2013, και ως εκ τούτου ο
Προϋπολογισμός δεν εγκρίθηκε. Θα συναντηθούμε και πάλι στις αρχές του 2013 για να τον εγκρινουμε.
Ταυτόχρονα, θα σας κάνουμε μια περίληψη του οικονομικών μεγεθών του 2012. Ελπίζουμε επίσης να έχουν
ολοκληρωθή μέχρι το τέλος του Μαρτίου όλοι οι ελέγχοι απο την επιτροπη ελεγχου. Καθώς μπαίνουμε στο
2013, αναμένουμε τις δικές σας ιδέες για το πώς οι ταμίες θα μπορεσουν να εξυπηρετήσουν καλύτερα εσάς
και την εκκλησία.

2013 Parish Council Election Results
The results of the Parish Council Election, which took place on December 2, 2012, for the
“2013 Parish Council” are as follows: Peter Tsourianis, Guy Bressette, Andy Galbadis, Nick Boulas, Teddy
Menounos, Carol Salvo and Phillip Dres. Congratulations to All who got elected.....
The affirmation of the new “2013 Parish Council” will take place in January. Thank you to the Election
Committee, Kostas Tomadakis, Tina Armand and Mary Limberakis, who took the time out of their busy schedules to organize the Parish Council elections.
A NOTE ABOUT OUR GREEK SCHOOL

Teaching Ministry of our Greek Language”
I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. I hope 2013 will fulfill all your wishes. The Greek
School presented a nice short program for the celebrations of OXI on Sunday, the 28th of October. Patriotic songs and
poems were performed by most students. Mrs. Elizabeth Hatzis had prepared a nice speech for the occasion of the remembrance of Greek Heroism in WWII. On December 16th our students performed Christmas Carols and songs for the
entire parish on a festive Sunday afternoon.
The holidays are now over and the Greek School starts its second session. We have advertised the start of
these sessions on “Grecian Echoes” with the hope that more students will join the twelve, which are now enrolled in the
program. We are happy to hear positive feedback that the students are enjoying the Greek lessons. Mrs. Irene Savas
has started a Greek dance program every Wednesday after class and most of the students are participating, I would like
to thank Fr. Konstantinos and all the teachers for their hard work

Εύχομαι σε όλους μια ευτυχισμένη, υγιή και ευημερούσα Νέα Χρονιά. Ελπίζω το 2013, να εκπληρωθούν όλες οι
επιθυμίες σας. Το Ελληνικό Σχολείο παρουσίασε ένα ωραίο σύντομο πρόγραμμα για τις γιορτές του ΟΧΙ, την Κυριακή 28
Οκτωβρίου. Από τους περισσότερους μαθητές απαγγέλθηκαν ποιήματα και πατριωτικα τραγούδια . Η κα Ελισάβετ
Χατζή είχε ετοιμάσει μια ωραία ομιλία με την ευκαιρία της μνήμης του ελληνικού έπους κατα τον Β 'Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο.
Στις 16 Δεκεμβρίου οι μαθητές τραγούδησαν Χριστουγεννιάτικα κάλαντα και τραγούδια ενώπιον όλης της ενορίας σε ένα
εορταστικό Κυριακατικο απόγευμα.
Οι διακοπές έχουν τελειώσει και το ελληνικό σχολείο ξεκινά το δεύτερο τετραμηνο. Έχουμε διαφημίει αυτην την
έναρξη μεσου του Grecian Echoes. Ελπίζουμε να ενταχθούν περισσότεροι μαθητές από τους δώδεκα που συμμετέχουν
τώρα στο πρόγραμμα μας. Χαιρόμαστε γιατί μαθαίνουμε ότι όλα τα παιδιά απολαμβάνουν τα μαθήματα ελληνικής
γλώσσας. Η κα Ειρήνη Σάββας έχει ξεκινήσει ένα πρόγραμμα εκμάθησης ελληνικών χορών, κάθε Τετάρτη μετά το
μάθημα στο οποίο συμμετέχουν οι περισσότεροι από τους μαθητές. Θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω τον Πατερα Κωνσταντινο
και όλες τις δασκαλές για τη σκληρή δουλειά τους

“A Youth Ministry of our Parish”
Dear Parishioners:
I hope everyone had a fun holiday season! Our first major event of the year was the Thanksgiving raffle on Sunday, November 18th, and was a major success. Thank you to everyone who
attended and bought raffles! As you all know out first trip this 2012/2013 year was “Apple Picking”
at Honey Pot in Stow, Massachusetts. GOYA picked over six bags of apples. We also put up the
Christmas tree on December 1st, along with "JOY" accompanying us in creating arts and crafts.
We have also volunteered at Rosie's place and cooked a meal for the homeless. Last but not
least, we cleaned up the boiler room down in the church basement. Other events we are going to be
hosting this year are the Thirty Hour Famine, and our as usual our annual Mother's Day Luncheon
that is on May 12th 2013. Hope to see you all there. Happy New Year!

Αγαπητοί Ενορίτες:
Ελπίζω ότι ο καθένας σας πέρασε χαρούμενη εορταστική περίοδο! Η Πρώτη μας μεγάλη εκδήλωση του
έτους ήταν η κλήρωση του λαχνου των Ευχαριστιών την Κυριακή, 18 Νοεμβρίου, η οποια ειχε μεγάλη
επιτυχία. Ευχαριστώ όλους όσους συμμετείχαν και αγόρασαν λαχεία! Όπως όλοι γνωρίζετε το πρώτο ταξίδι
του 2012/2013 έτους ηταν το μάζεμα μηλων στο αγροκτημα Honey Pot στο Stow, της Μασαχουσέτης. Η
GOYA πήρε πάνω από έξι τσάντες γεματες με μήλα. Επίσης, τοποθετήσαμε και στολισαμε το
χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο την 1η Δεκεμβρίου, μαζί με την "JOY" που μας συνοδεύσε στην κατασκευή
χειροτεχνημάτων.
Έχουμε γινει επίσης εθελοντες στο χώρο της Rosie και μαγειρεψαμε ένα γεύμα για τους άστεγους.
Τελευταίο, αλλά όχι λιγότερο σημαντικό, καθαρισαμε το λεβητοστάσιο κάτω στο υπόγειο της εκκλησίας. Άλλες
εκδηλώσεις που πρόκειται να πραγματοποιησουμε φέτος είναι οι τριάντα ωρες πείνας, και το συνηθισμενο
γεύμα για την γιορτη της μητέρα μας, που είναι στις 12 Μαΐου 2013. Ελπίζουμε να σας δούμε όλους εκεί και
να έχετε καλα Χριστούγεννα και ενα Ευτυχισμένο Νέο Έτος!

A NOTE FROM ΤΗΕ CHOIR
We have survived the holidays and the Mayan Calendar, and are now in the year 2013. Cool! Along with
a new year comes resolutions of all sorts and sizes about what we personally will accomplish in our lives this
year. Most of them are usually dust in a couple of months, unfortunately.
I’ve come up with a new year’s resolution as Choir Director. My resolution is to build a bigger choir! So I am officially recruiting starting the minute you read this article. We have 11 people in choir. We would
like more. This is where you come in. I know there are parishioners who love the music of the Divine
Liturgy. If you love to sing and would love to be part of the choir, let me explain a little about what is
required:
A desire to sing the wonderful hymns of the Greek Orthodox Church.
A reasonable singing voice…doesn’t have to be big and exotic.
A willingness to grow musically; learn new music, etc.
Have fun. Choir is work but it’s also fun and very often nuts!
Commit to Sunday liturgies and rehearsals.
Yes, there are some requirements as with any group but the rewards are great. Always remember that
singing is praying twice. And not to worry about learning all the music right away. There is so much to learn and it
takes time. We learn at rehearsals and as we go along through the church year. And there are several seasoned
choir members to help you on Sundays. Plus you probably know more than you think!
So this is my big resolution for 2013. I am officially in choir-recruitment-mode. (Now I’m hoping I can keep

Επιζήσαμε από τις διακοπές και το ημερολόγιο των Μάγια, και τώρα ειμαστε στο έτος 2013. Χαλαρωστε! Με το
νέο έτος έρχονται επιθυμίες όλων των ειδών και μεγεθών για το τι εμείς προσωπικά θελουμε να ολοκληρώσουμε
στην ζωην μας εφέτος. Δυστυχώς οι περισσότερες από αυτες γινοντε συνήθως σκόνη σε μερικούς μήνες....
Σαν διευθυντρια της χορωδίας εχω μιά επιθυμία για το νεο έτος. Κάνω την πρόταση να αποκτήσουμε μια
μεγαλύτερη χορωδία! Για αυτό και είμαι επίσημα ετοιμη να εγγραψω νεα μελη στην χορωδια ξεκινώντας από την
στιγμή που θα διαβάσετε αυτό το άρθρο. Έχουμε 11 άτομα στην χορωδία. Εμείς θα θελαμε περισσότερα. Εκεί
είναι όπου εσεις μπορείτε να λαβετε μερος. Ξέρω ότι υπάρχουν ενορίτες που αγαπούν τη μουσική της Θείας
Λειτουργίας. Αν σας αρέσει να τραγουδάτε και θα θελατε να είστε μέρος της χορωδίας, επιτρέψτε μου να σας
εξηγήσω λίγο τι χρειάζεται:
Η επιθυμία να τραγουδήσετε τους υπέροχους ύμνους της Ελληνικής Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας.
Μια λογικα ποιοτικη φωνή ... δεν χρειάζεται να είναι δυνατή και εξωτικη.
Η προθυμία να αναπτυχθητε μουσικά... Να μάθετε νέα μουσική, κλπ.
Να διασκεδάσετε. Η χορωδία είναι εργασία, αλλά είναι επίσης διασκεδαστικη και συχνά πολύ τρελλη!
Δέσμευση γιά την την Κυριακατικη λειτουργία και τις πρόβες.
Ναι, υπάρχουν κάποιες προϋποθέσεις όπως συμβαίνει με κάθε ομάδα, αλλά οι ανταμοιβές είναι μεγάλες.
Να θυμάστε πάντα ότι το να υμνείτε τον Θεό ειναι σαν να προσεύχεστε διπλα. Και να μην ανησυχείτε για την
εκμάθηση όλης της μουσικής αμέσως. Υπάρχουν τόσα πολλά να μάθετε τα οποια παίρνουν χρόνο. Μαθαίνουμε
στις πρόβες και επισης όσο προχωράμε μέσα στο εκκλησιαστικό έτος. Υπάρχουν πολλά εμπειρα μέλη της
χορωδίας για να σας βοηθήσουν την Κυριακή. Επι πλέον ίσως γνωρίζετε περισσότερο από οτι νομίζετε!
Έτσι, αυτή είναι η μεγάλη μου επιθυμία για το 2013. Εχω προετοιμασθή να εγγράψω νέα μέλη στη
χορωδία. (Εύχομαι να μπορώ να εκπληρώσω την επιθυμία μου αυτή!) Ευχηθείτε μου καλή τύχη! Και μη
διστάσετε να το κάνετε πρόσωπικα ... στη σοφίτα της χορωδία, κατά την ώρα του καφέ....

Greek Folk Dance Lessons
We are very happy to announce that Mrs. Irene Savas
has started teaching Greek Folk dance lessons for all
children. Your child need not be a student of Greek and/
or Sunday School to participate. All are welcome! A $50
fee for two sessions, payable by check to LYKEION
ELLINIDON, will cover related expenses and help support the LYKEION for its efforts to preserve true Greek
Tradition. If you are interested in enrolling your child,

Friday, 2/22/13 through Sunday, 2/24/13 for a Dormition Parish Retreat to be held at the Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Center, Contoocook, NH. 2 night accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner to be included at the new retreat house. Expenses are $50 per person/per
