Università Iuav di Venezia in partnership with BAG DESIGN AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT advanced course a.a. 2014-15 admission and application www.iuav.it/corsobagdesign Bag Design product development advanced course a.a. 2014-15 Targets The “Bag Design and Product Development” course is aimed at the development of fully contemporary professionals who are able to create connections between the technical know-how and invention process of the craft, and the creative vision of the designer. University classes are paired with traditional methods of knowledge transmission through the interaction of student and artisan, in order to provide a thorough education surrounding all aspects related to high-quality leather bag design, development and production. Classes The classes are structured in the form of traditional lectures as well as laboratory activities. Lectures are focussed on furthering the basic knowledge of materials (for leathers in addition to new technical materials), on different product categories (also analyzed in a historical perspective), and on the technical aspects and production of accessories. The course consists of several stages. The first stage will take place in Venice at the Università Iuav, and revolves around the bag design laboratory; students will be guided in the preparation of a capsule collection, starting from technical-manufacturing issues. The second phase will take place at Scuola dei Maestri Pellettieri di Bottega Veneta, located at the brands’ atelier in Montebello Vicentino, with focus on hands-on activities; students will deepen their knowledge of the pattern making, construction techniques, and different treatments and finishing of products, thanks to Bottega Veneta’s master artisan and technicians’ support. Students will also visit a tannery and laboratories specialized in metal details, in addition to spending time in a Bottega Veneta store, where they will have the opportunity to experience the direct contact with clientele and observe the selling ceremony. At the end of the project, students will present the prototypes they developed based on their initial capsule collection during the final examination. Students who successfully pass the final exam will receive a certificate of attendance and 14 C.F.U. credits. duration 01>04.2015 deadline 27.11.2014 Obiettivo Il corso forma figure professionali pienamente contemporanee, in grado di connettere il saper fare artigianale alla creatività del designer. Metodologie didattiche universitarie si confrontano con modalità di trasmissione del sapere proprie di artigiani e tecnici specializzati, per fornire una preparazione approfondita su tutti gli aspetti relativi al design della borsa in pelle di alta qualità e al suo sviluppo produttivo. Didattica La struttura del corso è composta da attività di laboratorio e lezioni teoriche frontali finalizzate ad approfondire nozioni di base sui materiali (oltre alla pelle anche i nuovi materiali tecnologici) e sulle tipologie di oggetti e categorie merceologiche analizzate anche in prospettiva storica, e sugli aspetti tecnici e produttivi degli accessori. Il percorso didattico si compone di più fasi. La prima si svolge a Venezia presso la sede dell’Università e ruota intorno al laboratorio di bag design che guiderà gli studenti nella preparazione di una capsule collection basata sulla discussione di temi tecnico-costruttivi. La seconda fase si svolge all’interno della Scuola Maestri Pellettieri di Bottega Veneta presso l’Atelier aziendale a Montebello Vicentino, e si incentra su attività laboratoriali per l’apprendimento della modellistica, delle tecniche costruttive, dei trattamenti e delle rifiniture dei prodotti. Sono previste visite guidate in concerie e in laboratori di metallerie. Il programma prevede anche uno stage di una settimana in uno store Bottega Veneta per offrire l’opportunità di entrare in contatto con il cliente finale e osservare la cerimonia di vendita. A completamento del percorso formativo ogni studente riprenderà il progetto di capsule collection elaborato nella fase iniziale per realizzare alcuni prototipi che verranno presentati nella prova finale. Al superamento della prova finale verrà rilasciato un attestato di frequenza contestualmente al riconoscimento di 14 crediti formativi universitari.
