HOW TO REGISTER FOR COLLEGE CLASSES MS. Q ACADEMIC ADVISOR MIT ACADEMY’S GRADUATION Community college courses are a graduation requirement 9 college units total Most courses are 3 unit courses Recommended to take one each year starting in 9 th grade COMMUNIT Y COLLEGE POLICIES Become familiar with college policies IE: NVC requires students be in 10th grade and above or 15 years of age or older to attend IE: Drop dates for refund Special admit form must be on file for each semester If you decides not to take the course, then you need to dis-enrollment or else you pay the fee Remember telling an instructor you dropped does not mean you are officially dis-enrolled CCC APPLY http://cccapply.com/ All California community colleges are interlinked to this website SOLANO COMMUNIT Y COLLEGE (SCC) 1. Enroll in CCC Apply or go to www.solano.edu 2. Submit Special Admit Form to Ms. Quintana (PDF) or take to SCC’s admissions office with at least 3 classes selected 3. Add/register for class(es) online through MySolano NAPA VALLEY COLLEGE (NVC) 1. Enroll in CCC Apply or www.napavalley.edu/Pages/default.aspx 2. Select 3 courses you are interested in 3. BEFORE CLASS STARTS Get your book(s), supplies, etc.  Career/Life Planning materials  SDS package ($5- $7)  Book ($56- $85)  MBTI form ($16- $21)  This course materials range from $77 up to $113 Make sure to balance your time wisely, there will be more homework with a college class BOOKS AND OTHER EXPENSES…  Teachers will give you a list of the book(s)/material(s) needed on the 1 st day of class  Student store on each campus should have your book(s)/material(s)  Tips:       Rent books Buy used books Go eTextbooks Look online, parts of your books maybe published for free Share Sell it after you finish your course BE CREATIVE WITH BOOKS & SUPPLIES! 1 ST DAY OF CLASS Remember this is college, you are responsible for attending class on the 1 st day of school There is no reminder from the college to attend If you do not attend the 1 st day of your college class, you may be informally dropped from the class roster and still owe a fee until you formally dis-enroll DIS-ENROLLING? If you know that you will not be attending the community college course you signed up for make sure to dis-enroll Fees will be charged any student enrolled until the course is formally dropped  There is a short 2-3 week timeframe to drop the class at the beginning of the semester DURING THE SEMESTER Please remember that you represent MIT Academy while you are attending courses Take only the allotted time for breaks Attendance and participation are part of your grade Rules are clearly laid out by the instructor, it is your job to follow them ONCE THE SEMESTER IS OVER… Print out a copy of your final grade from your community college and submit to Ms. Munoz This will be noted onto your MITA transcript SCC’S GRADING SYSTEM CC GRADES Remember that the grade you earn at the community college starts your college GPA When you are at the community college you can be placed on academic probation and/or dismissal  Students who do not maintain standard academic achievement can be placed on academic probation, dismissal or progress dismissal  GPA should be a 2.0 or better (that is a “C” average) EVERY SO OFTEN… You will need to log back into your community college application to update what semester you will be attending the community college of your choice IE: Fall 2014 then again Spring 2015 FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. What this means is if you want to grant your parent/guardian access to your community college records, then you (the student) need to put this in writing otherwise the college has to maintain your community college records off limits to your parent/guardian even though you are a minor PRIORIT Y REGISTRATION If you already took a college class that helps your enrollment status! To check go under the “Student” Tab, under “When can I register?” to see if your registration day and time THE MORE UNITS, THE SOONER YOU CAN REGISTER!
