June 19th, 2014 – Azure Site Recovery (formerly Hyper-V Recovery Manager) Preview
Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager, which launched in January 2014, is being extended with a new
capability in public preview. Now you can replicate virtual machines (VMs) from your primary site
directly to Azure, instead of to your own secondary site. In the event of an outage at the primary site, the
service orchestrates the recovery of VMs in Azure.
To better reflect the service’s new, broader capabilities, we are renaming it Microsoft Azure Site
Recovery in conjunction with the release of this preview. The Azure Management Portal will be changing
slightly to reflect the new name.
No action is required if you wish to continue using the service as you have it configured today—
replicating between two of your own sites. If you would like to begin using replication to Azure, you will
need to reconfigure the service and create a new recovery plan.
During preview, the service is available at a 50 percent discount. Your pricing for Site Recovery is shown

May 12, 2014 Azure Store Now Available
Direct Enterprise Agreement (EA) customers in North America and Europe can now purchase application
and data services from third party providers through Azure Store and have these purchases automatically
billed against their EA. As pricing is set by the third party sellers, Store purchases are not eligible for
Microsoft’s volume licensing discounts and Azure monetary commitment balances cannot be utilized for
Store purchases. Customers will be billed against their EA each quarter for all of their Store purchases on
a separate, consolidated invoice. Azure Store is currently only available for Direct customers.

May 12th, 2014 Virtual Network Enhancement Generally Available
Announcing the general availability of the two most requested features for Azure Virtual Network:
Multiple Site-to-Site and Inter VNET (VNET-to-VNET) Connectivity.
First, Virtual Network now supports more than one site-to-site connection. So, you can now securely
connect multiple on-premises locations with a virtual network (VNET) in Azure. Using more than one
site-to-site connection comes at no additional cost. You incur charges only for the VNET gateway uptime.
Second, Inter VNET (VNET-to-VNET) connectivity has been enabled. That is, multiple virtual networks
can be directly and securely connected with one another. Using this feature, you can connect VNETs that
are running in different Azure regions and have traffic route via the Azure backbone. The data traffic
flowing between VNETs is charged at the same rate as egress traffic.

May 12, 2014 - IP Reservation for VIPs Generally Available, and Instance-Level Public IPs for
Virtual Machines in Preview
You can now reserve public IP addresses and use them as Virtual IP (VIP) addresses for your
applications. This enables scenarios where your applications need to have static public IP addresses or
where you need to update your applications by swapping the reserved IP addresses.
Also, you can now assign public IP addresses to your virtual machines, so they become directly
addressable without having to map an endpoint to access them directly. This feature will enable scenarios
like running FTP servers in Azure and monitoring virtual machines directly using their IPs. During
preview, you can obtain two public IP addresses per subscription at no additional charge.

May 12, 2014 – Azure Storage File in Preview
Azure Files enables virtual machines in an Azure datacenter to mount a shared file system using the SMB
protocol. These VMs will then be able to access the file system using standard Windows file APIs
(CreateFile, ReadFile, WriteFile, etc.). Many VMs (or platform-as-a-service roles) can attach to these file
systems concurrently, so you can share persistent data easily between various roles and instances. In
addition to accessing your files through the Windows file APIs, you can access your data using the REST
API, which is similar to the familiar Blob service interface.

May 12, 2014 Azure RemoteApp now in Public Preview
In today's dynamic business environment, everyone wants to access corporate resources from a variety of
devices and be productive anywhere, anytime. The “bring-your-own-device” trend presents not only an
opportunity to increase productivity but also a challenge to maintain data compliance. To meet these everchanging business needs with limited resources, you need a flexible infrastructure that can securely scale
up or down. Azure RemoteApp is available at no additional cost during public preview.
May 12, 2014 - Internal Loadbalancing available in Public Preview
The ability to load-balance Azure (VMs) with private IP addresses is now in public preview. The
internally load-balanced endpoint will be accessible only within a virtual network (if the VM is within a
virtual network) or within a cloud service (if the VM isn’t within a virtual network). Internal
Loadbalancing is useful when you’re creating multitier applications in which some of the application tiers
aren’t public facing but require load-balancing functionality. Internal Loadbalancing is available in the
standard tier of VMs at no additional cost.

Virtual Machines Basic – Generally Available
A new Basic tier of compute instances offers similar CPU and memory configurations as the
Standard tier of instances, but these instances cost up to 16.6 percent less.
The Basic tier doesn’t provide load-balancing and automatic scaling features, as the Standard tier
does. Instances in the Basic tier are best suited for applications such as single-instance production
workloads, development workloads, test servers, and batch processing, where those features
might not be required.
Your pricing for Basic compute instances is shown in the table below.

February 25, 2014 – Windows Azure Japan Region Generally Available
Today we are announcing the general availability of two new Windows Azure Regions: Japan
East in the Tokyo metropolitan area (Saitama Prefecture) and Japan West (Osaka
Prefecture). These regions were brought online to meet growing demand for Windows Azure
cloud services and help our customers satisfy performance needs.
The new regions provide Japanese customers the ability to meet data residency goals and
improve data durability in case of major disaster by deploying to two geographically
isolated regions. The Japan East region geo-replicates to Japan West and the Japan West region
geo-replicates to Japan East, ensuring copies of data are stored at least 250 miles apart. Prices
listed below reflect Public prices.
While prices for Windows Azure services are generally the same across regions, prices for
Virtual Machines, Cloud Services are specific to the Japan East and Japan West regions to better
reflect market conditions. Please note SQL Database and Web Sites are available at promotional
prices through May 31, 2014. The new Japan Geo represents our continued commitment to better
serve customers through geographic expansion, including our previously announced plans for
expansion in Brazil, Australia, and China through our partner 21Vianet.

Windows Azure Storage pricing changes
Currently, Windows Azure Storage is metered and billed using our two storage meters for Locally Redundant
Storage (LRS) and Geo Redundant Storage (GRS). During the initial phase of our Read-Access Geo Redundant
Storage (RA-GRS) preview, usage was emitted using the GRS storage meter.
Beginning March 13, 2014, you will have the ability to track and view usage broken out by Block Blob, Page
Blob/Disk, and Table/Queue for LRS, GRS, and RA-GRS. At the same time, we will reduce the price of LRS and

License-included Oracle VMs will be generally available on March 12, 2014, and we will begin
charging for the Oracle software in those VMs on March 12. License-included Oracle VMs are
Windows Server VMs made available in the Windows Azure Gallery in which Oracle software
has been preinstalled.
During the preview period (through March 11), for license-included Oracle VMs, we charge only
for the Windows Server VMs that the Oracle software runs on, not for the Oracle software itself.
Support for the Oracle software in license-included Oracle VMs is limited to online forums
during the preview period.
Beginning March 12, we will charge for the Oracle software running in license-included Oracle
VMs in addition to our charge for the Windows Server VMs in which the Oracle software runs.
Prices are listed as hourly rates, and we will bill for the Oracle software based on the total
number of minutes that your license-included Oracle VMs run during a billing cycle. The rates
below are only for the Oracle software license. As this is a third party product, no volume
licensing discounts are offered for the Oracle software running in license-included Oracle
VMs. Additional VM charges will be incurred based on the size and type of underlying VM you
are running. After the preview period ends, any license-included Oracle VMs that remain
deployed will automatically be billed at the new rates. Please note that charges related to Oracle
software licenses are billed separately and do not participate in your enrollment’s monetary
commitment.
“Bring-Your-Own-License” (or “BYOL”) Oracle VMs are Oracle Linux VMs made available in
the Windows Azure Gallery in which Oracle software has been preinstalled. BYOL Oracle VMs
have been generally available since September 23, 2013.
BYOL Oracle VMs do not include licenses to any Oracle software. If you choose to deploy a
BYOL Oracle VM, you are responsible for ensuring that you have obtained adequate license
rights from Oracle or an authorized distributor for the Oracle software installed in the VM. For
BYOL Oracle VMs, we charge only for the Linux VMs that the Oracle software runs on, not for
the Oracle software itself (see pricing details under the "Linux" tab). The below pricing details
do not apply to BYOL Oracle VMs.
The below pricing details in US dollars also do not apply to any Oracle software you install
yourself in any VM under License Mobility, as described below.
Pricing for Oracle software (starting March 12) in license-included Oracle VMs is based on the
number of cores. These prices are for Oracle software only and do not include the cost of the
VM, which is billed separately.

Price decreases and billing model changes
Microsoft may change the current Enterprise Program price for individual Windows Azure
services during the term of an enrollment. We will extend the reduced rates to existing
customers while the lower price is in effect. Prices may also increase during the term of an
enrollment if an enrollment’s price was previously reduced lower than its initial rate during the
enrollment. However, an enrollment’s price for a service will not increase beyond that initial
rate. We will inform customers and indirect channel partners of price changes by emailing the
enterprise and partner administrators associated with the enrollment.
Listed below by date are the price changes that impact the Enterprise program. Price decreases
are based off retail prices and are not specific to a customer Enrollment. Customers can view
their current pricing by logging into the Windows Azure Enterprise Portal and viewing their

August 1, 2012 – Reduced Commitment Pricing
Effective August 1, 2012, we lowered our standard commitment pricing by increasing our
commitment discount to 23% for all services as compared to our standard Enterprise Program
consumption rates. Previously, our commitment discounts were 10% for storage, CDN and data
transfers and 20% for all other services.
Enrollments can now also qualify for the following additional discounts based on the volume of
their annual monetary commitment:

*Additional discounts off of the Tier 1 prices only applies to rates negotiated subsequent to August 1, 2012. Existing enrollments
do qualify for the standard lower rates, including any tiered discounts, if they are lower than their current negotiated rates.
All unused monetary commitment will qualify for the discounts noted above based on an
enrollment’s aggregate annual monetary commitment in effect as of the first day of that month.
For example, if a customer initially purchases 1,200 units of the monetary commitment SKU on
January 1, the enrollment will initially qualify for a discount of 23%. If later on June 15 the
customer places an additional order of 600 units of the monetary commitment SKU for the last 6
months of their initial annual commitment term, the enrollment will then qualify for 26% off its
standard consumption rates beginning on July 1. This is on any of the enrollment’s remaining
monetary commitment balance and not just on the second order of 600 units of the monetary
commitment SKU. Existing enrollments can qualify for these increased discounts based on the
total number of units of the monetary commitment SKU that have been purchased during the
current annual commitment term, effective on any unused monetary commitment balance as of
August 1, 2012.
Please note that an individual enrollment will receive the better of its negotiated price, including
any tiered discounts in which it qualifies that was in effect when Windows Azure was originally
purchased, or the current standard rates in which the enrollment qualifies, including any tiered
discounts in effect for that month.
For questions on how to convert your monetary commitment units to commitment amounts,
please reference your price sheet or contact your channel partner.
June 1, 2012 – CDN and Storage Transactions
Effective June 1, 2012, our listed rates for CDN and Storage transactions were lowered by 90%.
March 8, 2012 – Compute Hours – Extra Small Instance
Effective March 8, 2012, the cost of an extra small compute instance was lowered by 50%.
Please note that all compute hours are converted into small instance hours when billed. So
instead of reporting 1/3 of a small instance hour for each elapsed hour an extra small instance is
deployed, we now are reporting 1/6 of a small instance hour. This results in a 50% lower price.
Please click here for additional details on our different compute instance sizes.
March 1, 2012 – Storage Capacity
Effective March 1, 2012, the price for storage capacity for current Enterprise Program customers
that have standard rates based on their level was decreased by 10.71%.
February 14, 2012 – New SQL Database billing model
Effective February 14, 2012, we introduced a new billing model that lowers the cost per gigabyte
as customers grow their databases. Our standard price on all SQL Databases larger than 1 GB was
reduced between 30 to 86 percent, depending on the size of the database. We also introduced a
100 megabyte database option for SQL Database that is priced 50% less than before.
February 1, 2012 – Storage capacity and data transfers

December 1, 2011 – New Service Bus billing model
Effective December 1, 2011, Service Bus migrated to a new billing model based on Relay Hours
and Messages. Service Bus was offered at no charge through June 30, 2012. Beginning on July
1, 2012, our public prices in US dollars for customers that purchase on the Windows Azure web
site are as follows:
п‚·
п‚·
$0.10 per 100 Relay Hours
$0.01 per 10,000 Messages
Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level discount and commitment
discount off of the above rates.
July 1, 2011 – Free inbound data transfers
Effective July 1, 2011, we no longer charge for inbound data transfers.
Corrections to our pricing
March 2014
In February we initially published Storage with tiered pricing. This was incorrect for Enterprise
Azure customers. Below is correct pricing and discount provided.
At the same time, we will reduce the price of LRS and
GRS Blob and Disk storage and storage transactions, and increate the preview price of RA-GRS storage.

February 2013
During months of January and February 2013, customers consuming Virtual Network (a free
service during preview) were mistakenly billed for their usage. A monetary commitment
adjustment was made to affected customer’s accounts on April 1st and customer was notified by
email.
On February 22, 2013, there was a worldwide service outage that impacted Windows Azure
Storage and the following dependent services:
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
Media Services
Mobile Services
Service Bus
Web Sites
Geo Redundant Storage, Locally Redundant Storage, Storage Transactions, Media Services
Encoding and Service Bus received a 25% discount for usage in February. Because Mobile
Services and Webs Sites are emitted as part of the Cloud Services, they were credited for 25% of
their February usage. This credit will appear as an adjustment to the new purchase amount in the
enterprise portal on the usage summary report in either February or March of 2013.
December 2012
From December 28-30, 2012, Windows Azure Storage service experienced a service interruption
in a single cluster in the South Central US sub region that caused a limited number of storage
nodes in that particular cluster to go offline. For EA customers with storage accounts that were
impacted, we updated their rates to not charge for Local Redundant and Geo Redundant storage
as well as storage transactions for December, 2012.
November 2012
For Cache hours from 11/4/2012 00:00 through 11/16/2012 23:59 (UTC time), the system
originally overstated Cache usage by exactly 100% for reported usage during this time. This
usage has since been properly stated and the issue that caused this problem has been fixed to
prevent its reoccurrence.
October 2012
For compute hours and associated data transfers for the day of October 7, 2012, the system
originally overstated this usage by exactly 100% for 19 of the 24 hours that our system reported
usage for this day. Since our totals are aggregated by day and to ensure no customer is
overbilled, we reduced all compute hours and the data transfers associated with compute hours
for October 7, 2012 by 50% of what was originally reported. This results in a slight error in our
customers’ favor. The underlying issue that caused this double reporting has been corrected and
appropriate controls have been implemented to avoid its reoccurrence.
Prior to August 1, 2012, we had a few pricing errors that resulted in customers receiving lower
rates than they should have on some services. These errors included:
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
SQL Azure Business Edition customers receiving an extra 90% discount off their
negotiated rates through July 2012
Customers receiving the new August 2012 commitment rates on their July 2012 usage
Storage customers receiving an additional 10.71% discount off our standard pricing for
their June and July 2012 usage.
These errors have been corrected on a go forward basis but we will enable customers to retain
the benefit of these lower rates for these prior months.
For customers utilizing CDN, we planned to report CDN data transfers separately effective June
25, 2012 onward. Due to a system issue that has since been corrected, this separately reported
CDN data transfer usage was not originally included in an enrollment’s usage reporting or
reflected in an enrollment’s monetary commitment balance. For July 1 onward, this has been
corrected and you may have recently seen a change in your usage and/or monetary commitment
balance. To avoid having to reopen June, we have elected not to restate usage for June 25 - 30,
2012, and will not charge for CDN data transfer usage for this period. We apologize for any
inconvenience that this may have caused.

Details on how usage is calculated and billed
Cloud Services
Windows Azure Web and Worker roles are charged only when your application is deployed.
When developing and testing your application, developers will want to remove the compute
instances that are not being used to minimize compute hour billing. Partial compute hours are
billed as full hours.

Details on the Cloud Services compute instance sizes.
All Cloud Services compute hours are converted into small instance hours when presented on
your bill. For example, one clock hour of a medium compute instance would be presented as two
small compute instance hours on your bill. This table describes how each of the compute
instance sizes is converted to the number of small compute instance hours:

Large
Extra Large
Clock Hours

1 hour
1 hour

Small Instance Hours
Variable*

4 hours
8 hours
*The number of small instance hours emitted per hour varies based on the type of compute as follows: Cloud
Services – 1/4 hour; Windows Virtual Machine – 2/9 hour; and Linux Virtual Machine – 1/3 hour. Please note that
until June 1, 2013, all XS hours will continue to be emitted as 1/6 of a small instance hour. On June 1, XS will be
emitted at these new ratios, which equates to $0.02/hr at our Pay-As-You-Go prices in US dollars for customers that
purchase Windows Azure directly from our Windows Azure web site.
Compute hours are billed based on the number of clock hours your service was deployed
multiplied by the number of equivalent small compute instances included in your deployment.
Partial compute instance hours (prior to conversion) are billed as full compute hours for each
clock hour an instance is deployed. For example, if you deploy a small compute instance at 10:50
AM and delete the deployment at 11:10 AM, you will be billed for two small compute hours, one
hour for usage during 10:50 AM to 11:00 AM and another hour for usage during 11:00 AM to
11:10 AM.
For other compute instance sizes you deploy, your hours will be converted into the equivalent
small instance hours by multiplying by 1/6 (until June 1, 2013, then varies by the type of
compute instance), 2, 4 or 8, depending on the compute instance size deployed. In addition, each
time you delete your deployment and redeploy your service, you will be billed a minimum of one
clock hour for each compute instance deployed. However, any instances deployed for less than
five minutes within one clock hour will not be charged.
Data Management
SQL Database
SQL Database is billed based on a graduated rate based on the size of the database. It is available
in two editions: Web and Business. The Web Edition supports up to a 5 GB maximum T-SQL
based relational database. The Business Edition supports up to a 150 GB maximum size T-SQLbased relational database. You are billed per database per month in Database Units based on the
size of the database.
For illustrative purposes, below is the price per database per month based on the size of the
database using our Pay-As-You-Go prices in US dollars for customers that purchase Windows

On February 14, 2012, we changed the SQL Database Business Edition and Web Edition
database meters’ unit of measure from being per gigabyte / per database to what we refer to as a
Database Unit. For existing customers, your commitment and overage prices for Web and
Business Edition did not change but the quantity billed was lowered for all database sizes except
a 1 GB Web Edition database.
For example, using the Pay-As-You-Go price in US dollars for customers that buy from our
Windows Azure web site, the price would be $9.99 per database unit (although Business Edition
utilizes a larger unit of measure of 10 Database Units):

Storage
Storage is billed in units of the average daily amount of data stored (in GB) over a monthly
period. For example, if you consistently utilized 10 GB of storage for the first half of the month
and none for the second half of the month, you would be billed for your average usage of 5 GB
of storage.
Windows Azure storage provides two levels of redundancy:
п‚· Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) - provides highly durable and available storage within
a single sub region.
п‚· Geo Redundant Storage (GRS) - provides our highest level of durability by additionally
storing your data in a second sub region within the same region
Storage accounts by default are set up to be geographically redundant. Customers that do not
require this additional level of durability can turn off their storage accounts’ default settings for
Geo Redundancy to obtain a reduced rate for storage.
For Windows Azure Drive storage, you will be billed only for the storage space used by the page
blob and the read/write transactions to the page blob. You will not be charged for read
transactions that utilize the local drive cache. Windows Azure Drive usage is billed at the same
rates as standard Windows Azure Storage and is included with Windows Azure Storage usage in
your bill. There is not a separate line item for Windows Azure Drive on your bill.

Virtual Machines
Windows Azure Virtual Machines enable you to deploy a custom Windows Server or Linux
image to Windows Azure. Virtual Machines give developers full control over the application
environment and allow easy migration of existing applications to the cloud. Customers can
choose between a Windows and Linux Virtual Machine (VM). The Windows Virtual Machine
includes Windows Server licensing costs.
In January 2013 we announced that we now charge for Virtual Machines by the minute. EA
Price Sheet prices are listed as hourly rates for 100 hours but we bill based on total number of
minutes when your VMs run for a partial hour. We also announced that VMs that are shutdown
are no longer incurring charges. Only status “Stopped (Deallocated)” means that the VM is no
longer incurring charges. If the VM status is “Stopped” you are still being billed. Here is a link
to VM frequently asked questions.

Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level discount and commitment
discount off of the above rates. EA prices are quoted per 10 or 100 compute hours, depending on
the service. The Enterprise Portal will also will break out separately the charges for running the
base Virtual Machines (i.e., Windows or Linux Virtual Machines) and the charges for the
additional software associated with the image that you are running (i.e., SQL Server, BizTalk,
etc.). Please review your price list on the Enterprise Portal or contact your channel partner for
your specific pricing on Virtual Machines.
All Virtual Machine compute hours are converted into small instance hours in the same manner
and ratios as described in the Cloud Services section. Compute hours are charged whenever the
Virtual Machine is deployed, irrespective of whether it is running or not. Compute hours do not
include any Windows Azure Storage costs associated with the image running in Windows Azure
Virtual Machines. These costs are billed separately. For a full description of how compute
hours are calculated, please refer to the Cloud Services section.
Windows Azure has a similarly named service, the VM Role Beta (stateless), which was released
at PDC10. If you are still using the VM Role Beta, it will continue to be charged at the same
compute rates for Cloud Services instances as noted in the Cloud Services section.
When you upload your on-premises Windows Server images to Windows Azure, Microsoft
provides the Windows Server license keys for any running instances. Your on-premises
Windows Server license does not transfer with the uploaded image. If you then download the
uploaded image to run back on-premises, you will then be required to supply a license to this
image. The license provided in Windows Azure is non-transferrable to on-premises.
Microsoft License Mobility through Software Assurance on Windows Azure
With License Mobility through Software Assurance, you can:
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
Deploy certain server application licenses purchased under your Volume Licensing
agreement in Windows Azure data centers;

Shared Instance Model (Preview)
The shared instance model provides support for custom domain names, 1 GB of storage, and
unlimited outbound data transfer charged at your normal rates. Up to three instances per Web site
may be deployed at an additional cost.
Under the shared instance model, you will receive the following benefits:
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
The ability to assign your custom host or domain name
Outbound traffic charged at your normal rates; unlimited inbound data transfer
1 GB storage (shared by all sites)
20 MB of a third-party, MySQL database
Our standard public price for shared instance hours will be $0.02 / hour (approx. $14.40 /
month) per Web Site instance at general availability. During preview, a 33% discount
will be applied for an effective monthly rate of $9.60 / month, per Web Site instance.
During preview, all paid shared instance hours will be billed using the current Cloud
Services small compute meter, except we will emit 1/9th of the Cloud Services small
compute hours to deliver the discounted pricing of $9.60 / month per Web Site instance.
The monthly calculation per paid shared Web Site instance is as follows: 720 hours * 1/9
* $0.12 = $9.60.
п‚·
As your web site traffic grows, you can seamlessly upgrade to the reserved-instance
model with private virtual machine instances dedicated solely to your apps.
As your web site traffic grows, you can seamlessly upgrade to the reserved-instance model with
private virtual machine instances dedicated solely to your apps.
Standard (Reserved) Instance Model – General Availability
The Standard-instance model provides dedicated virtual machine instances for all of your web
sites and 10 GB of storage for your content. With the reserved-instance model, you get unlimited
outbound data transfers, charged at your normal rate.

For Windows Azure Web Sites, we reserve the right to suspend service for nonuse or inactivity.
We will determine such nonuse or inactivity in accordance with the following criteria: no
administrative action or end-user access for more than 90 days. We may use other reasonable
criteria at our discretion from time to time. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before
suspending service.
Both the free and paid versions of the shared-instance model operate in a multitenant
environment, in which server resources such as CPU and memory are shared between all the
subscribers with Web Site deployments. Therefore, quotas are enforced per web site or across all
web sites, which may result in a temporary disruption of service if one or more of your sites are
using more than the allowed quota for a given resource.
Business Analytics
SQL Reporting
SQL Reporting is offered at no charge for billing periods beginning prior to August 1, 2012. For
billing periods beginning after July 31, 2012, SQL Reporting will be charged for each clock hour
of a reporting instance. If running your reports spans a clock hour, you will be billed a minimum
of one reporting instance to complete the execution of your reports.
Reporting instance hours are charged only when your service is deployed. A customer is billed a
minimum of a single hour (a “Reporting Instance Hour”) while they have SQL Reporting
deployed. This base charge covers up to 200 reports each clock hour. During each clock hour
that you generate more than 200 reports, you will be billed another Reporting Instance Hour for
each additional block of 200 reports, rounded up.
For example, if you deployed one reporting instance for one day during the billing cycle and
during that one day you stayed within 200 reports for every hour except for one hour, where you
initiated 250 reports. You would be billed for two hours for that hour you exceeded 200 reports
for a total of 25 Reporting Instance Hours for that day.
Networking
Virtual Network
Virtual Network is offered at no charge through May 31, 2013. We will start charging beginning
on June 1, 2013. Virtual Network is priced at $0.05 per VPN connection-hour using our Pay-AsYou-Go prices in US dollars for customers that purchase Windows Azure directly from our
Windows Azure web site. Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level
discount and commitment discount off of this rate.
When you create a hardware VPN connection for your virtual network with a VPN gateway, you
will be charged for each VPN connection hour that the connection is provisioned and available.
When you terminate your VPN connection, the charges for that connection will cease. Partial
VPN connection-hours are billed as full hours. All data transferred over the VPN connection is
charged at Azure’s standard data transfer rates. All resources consumed within the provisioned
private network(s) are charged at regular Azure prices for the resource (e.g. compute, storage
etc.)
Connect and Traffic Manager
Windows Azure Connect and Traffic Manager are currently in Community Technology Preview
(CTP) and available at no charge.
Multi-Factor Authentication
Windows Azure Multi-Factor Authentication is a service that helps secure access to on-premises
and cloud applications by providing an additional layer of authentication. It supports
authentication through mobile app, phone call or text message.

Data Transfers (except CDN)
All inbound data transfers (i.e. data going into Window Azure datacenters) are free. Data
transfers are charged based on the total amount of data moving out of Windows Azure
datacenters via the internet in a given billing period. Data transfers between Windows Azure
services located within the same sub-region are not subject to charge. Data transfers between
sub-regions are charged at normal rates on both sides of the transfer. A sub-region is the lowest
level geo-location that you may select to deploy your applications and associated data.
Below is a list of our regions and sub-regions for normal data transfers (except for CDN).

Caching
CDN
Content Delivery Network (CDN) charges are incurred for the data requests the CDN receives
and for the data it transfers out to satisfy these requests. CDN charges do not include charges
associated with transferring data from Windows Azure Storage to CDN. Any data transfers and
storage transactions incurred to get data from Windows Azure Storage to the CDN will be
charged separately at your Data Transfer and Storage transaction rates.
Windows Azure CDN data transfer charges are based on the data center location from which the
traffic was served - not the end user's location. Below is a table that maps the data center
locations to their associated billing zone.
Billing Regions
Zone 1
Zone 2
Geographic Location
North America
Europe
Asia Pacific
Latin America
Middle East / Africa
Developers cannot control which locations are used to deliver content, so bills may reflect
delivery charges from any of the Windows Azure CDN billing regions. User requests are
directed to CDN nodes based on their Internet Service Provider's routing tables as well as
network conditions. Users may be routed to locations that are preferred by their ISP, and/or
nodes that are judged as "closer" in a logical sense. These nodes will not necessarily be in
physical proximity. For example, if a developer deploys content on the CDN and end users are
in both Europe and Asia Pacific, the developer would likely see charges for delivery in both
Zone 1 and Zone 2. However, some users may be served from one of our other geographic
locations such as North America, based on routing tables and network status, if for example an
Asia Pacific CDN node became unreachable. In this example, the developer would be charged
for data transfers at Zone 1 rates for those users.
When the Windows Azure CDN receives a request for an object it does not have at an edge
location, it will make a standard request of Windows Azure Storage to obtain the data. CDN
charges do not include fees associated with transferring this data from Windows Azure Storage
to CDN. Any data transfers and storage transactions incurred to get data from Windows Azure
Storage to CDN will be charged separately at our normal Windows Azure Storage rates. CDN
charges are incurred for data requests it receives and for the data it transfers out to satisfy these
requests.
Availability of content in the Windows Azure CDN's local caches (often called "cache efficacy"
or "offload") is nondeterministic but is influenced by multiple factors including:
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
п‚·
Expiration ("max-age") header values
Overall total size of the developer's content library (how much could be cached)
Active working set (how much is currently cached)
Traffic (how much is being served)
Cache churn (how often are objects being added to cache, or aging out)
For example, a developer with a large ("wide") library with high churn and high traffic will have
less cache efficacy than other users, because cache turnover is higher, so objects will be swapped
in and out more frequently. This developer's overall Windows Azure Storage data transfer
charges will be proportionally higher, since more origin requests are required. The overall enduser experience in this example will also be slightly slower on average since fewer requests are
served from cache. The main cost control for developers to affect cache efficacy is the "maxage" HTTP header. Longer max-age headers allow the CDN to hold objects longer, reducing the
need to make origin requests.
Caching
Windows Azure Caching delivers data closer to application logic. As user load increases, the
Cache helps applications be more responsive and allows your applications to scale. Choose
between two deployment options –a managed, multi-tenant shared cache (Shared Caching) or a
cache that uses your existing or dedicated web/worker roles – called the Caching (Preview).
With the shared cache, cache resources are used from a shared pool across all tenants who
subscribe to the service. With the Caching (Preview), a cache uses the memory in compute
resources (Web or Worker roles) that are specifically provisioned for a single tenant. You can
use existing compute resources or create dedicated resources just for use by the cache.
Shared Caching (Managed Service)
Shared Caching is priced per cache size per month, no matter how much cache you actually use.
You will also be charged for data transfers that go outside of the data center in which your
services are provisioned.
Once you provision a specific cache size, the service limits the amount of data you put in the
cache to that size. Your application might temporarily have more data in the cache than the size
for which you signed up, but the system will soon take corrective action and delete data from
your cache to keep your cache size within the provisioned size.
In order to make sure there is fair usage of resources, the service might enforce limitations based
on the number of transactions being made against the cache, the total data transfer being
consumed, or the number of concurrent connections being used. If you exceed the limitations
enforced by the service, your application will be notified by receiving an exception specifying
the specific quota limit you have reached.
The table below provides a general guideline that can help you plan your usage of the service.
This guideline is a high-level estimate and is subject to revision in the future.

sizes of cache. So, for example, if you were to deploy a 1 GB cache, you would see a quantity
of 8 on your bill.
Caching (Preview)
Windows Azure Caching (Preview) can be deployed as a service alongside other application
code in your Web or Worker roles or you can choose to have Worker roles specifically dedicated
to the cache. The cache is distributed across the compute resources you select and integrated
into the Windows Azure SDK. Once deployed in Web or Worker roles, there is no additional
charge for caching above and beyond normal Cloud Services rates which vary by the type of role
and the role size.
Media Services Encoding
Encoding using Windows Azure Media Services will be billed based on data processed in
gigabytes. The total gigabytes processed are equal to the data input to the encoder, plus the data
output from the encoder calculated for a billing-cycle month. Both input and output data will be
stored in the Media Services customer’s storage account, for which the standard Windows Azure
Storage and Data Transfer charges will apply. Media Encoding will remain free of charge until
March 1, 2013, when it will be billed at $1.99 per GB.Our Enterprise Program customers will
receive their standard level discount and commitment discount off of this rate.
Media Services Encoding Reserved Unit
You may choose to purchase Encoding Reserved Units to get parallel processing of media tasks.
The number of media tasks that will be processed in parallel will be equal to the number of
reserved units purchased. Media Services Encoding Reserved Units is available at no charge
until February 1, 2013, when it will be billed at $99 each per month, calculated on a daily basis
using the highest number of reserved units that are provisioned in the account in the
corresponding 24-hour period. For example, if you purchase five Encoding Reserved Units at
11:00, and then bring the number down to 3 Reserved Units at 15:00, you will be charged for
five Reserved Units for that day. If you purchase five Encoding Reserved Units at 23:00, and
then bring the number down to three Reserved Units at 10:00 the next day, you will be charged
for five Reserved Units for day one and also for day two since you had five Reserved Units for
the first 10 hours of that day. Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level
discount and commitment discount off of this rate.
Media Services Packaging
Packaging using Windows Azure Media Services is currently available at no charge.
Media Services On-Demand Streaming
Media Services On-Demand Streaming will be free until March 1, 2013. After March 1, 2013,
On-Demand Streaming Units will be $199 each per month, calculated on a daily basis using the
highest number of reserved units that were active in the account in the corresponding 24-hour
period. Standard Windows Azure Data Transfer charges apply for all data moving out of the
Windows Azure data centers. Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level
discount and commitment discount off of this rate.

Service Bus
Beginning on June 1, 2012, our public prices in US dollars for customers that purchase
on the Windows Azure web site are as follows:
п‚·
п‚·
$0.10 per 100 Relay Hours
$0.01 per 10,000 Messages
Our Enterprise Program customers will receive their standard level discount and
commitment discount off of the above rates.
Messages are charged based on the number of messages sent to, or delivered by, the
Service Bus during the billing month. This includes delivery of “null” messages in
response to receive requests against empty queues/subscriptions. Messages over 64KB in
size will be charged an additional message for each additional 64KB of data (rounded
up).
Relay Hours will be charged from the time of creation to deletion (from when the first
listener opens to when the last listener closes on the endpoint) and rounded up to the next
whole hour. There is no relay hour charge if you are only using Service Bus Queues and
Topics.
In addition to the prices noted above for Service Bus, you will also be charged for the
associated Data Transfers for Egress outside the data center that your services are
provisioned.

Mobile Services – General Availability
For Windows Azure Mobile Services, a Mobile Service is best conceptualized as the back end of
an application. Thus, each application can utilize every available Mobile Services feature. For
example, one Mobile Service could include structured storage, user authentication via Facebook,
and push notifications. Each Windows Azure subscription receives 10 free Mobile Services
running on shared instances.
At this time, we have no plans to charge for the first 10 Mobile Services running on shared
instances, other than your Windows Azure SQL Database usage, which is billed separately. If
our plans change, you will receive 30 days’ notice of that change.
The Mobile Services shared-instance model provides the following services at no charge:
п‚·
п‚·
Mobile Services: Up to 10 Mobile Services*
Data Transfers: 165 MB of outbound data transfers per day per subscription; unlimited
inbound data transfers
* Use of Mobile Services requires a SQL Database, which is charged at your normal rates.
By default, your free 10 Mobile Services are configured in a shared-instance model, running in a
shared compute environment alongside other users’ Mobile Services and sharing the server
resources.
You can elect at any time to upgrade to the standard-instance model, which provides up to three
dedicated server instances for all of your Mobile Services at an additional cost. When you switch
to the standard-instance model, you can create and manage up to 100 Mobile Services.* In
addition, with the standard-instance model, you are not restricted in the amount of outbound data
transfers that you can use each day, but you will be charged at your normal rates.
Please note that Mobile Services deployed to a given sub region scale up or down as a group, and
groups are charged independently. For example, if you upgrade one Mobile Service in the West
US data center to a reserved instance and one Mobile Service in the East US data center to a
reserved instance, you will be charged for two reserved instances of Mobile Services.
Additionally, if you deploy multiple Mobile Services to a sub region and upgrade one of those
Mobile Services to a reserved instance, you must upgrade all the other Mobile Services that you
have deployed in that sub region. For example, if you have three Mobile Services deployed to
US West and one deployed to US East, upgrading one Mobile Service in US West will
automatically upgrade the other two Mobile Services in that sub region, but not the Mobile
Service in US East. If you upgrade the single Mobile Service in US East, the Mobile Services in
US West will not be affected.
During the Windows Azure Mobile Services preview, under the standard-instance model, you
will receive the following services per month:
п‚·
п‚·
Mobile Services: Up to 100 Mobile Services
Data Transfers: Unlimited outbound data transfers charged at your normal rates;
unlimited inbound data transfers
Mobile services deployed under the standard-instance model are currently available only in the
small virtual machine size powered by 1 CPU core and 1.75 GB of memory. Multiple small
instances may be purchased if your needs exceed this capacity.
For Mobile Services, we reserve the right to suspend service for nonuse or inactivity. We will
determine nonuse or inactivity using the following criteria: no administrative action or end-user
access for more than 90 days. We may use other reasonable criteria at our discretion from time to
time. We will give you notice before suspending service.
