The metalworking and electrical industries have good access to raw materials as
Macedonia has stable primary production of basic metals. They are a complementary and complete
technological sector in Macedonia’s national economy and of paramount importance to the country’s
development. The metalworking and electrical industries’ products are durable consumer goods
with investment significance. Part of these industries’ production is focused on consumer goods.
ACTIVITIES
The Association of Metalworking and Electrical Industries has approximately 120 member
companies working in the following areas:
manufacture of metal products, metalworking stage (except machines and devices);
manufacture of machines and devices, not mentioned before;
manufacture of office and computing machines;
manufacture of electrical machines and devices;
manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and devices;
manufacture of precision medical and optical instruments and watches;
manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers;
manufacture of other means of transport and transport equipment.
MANUFACTURING FACILITIES
This sector has a number of facilities for processing basic metals at a level close to a finished
product:

• different types of machines, tools and spare parts;

electronics and parts used in the
automotive industry;
• buses and additional devices attached
to vehicles used in business.

in the Republic of Macedonia
The restructuring process i.e. the privatization in these industries and the foreign direct investments that followed (more specifically, greenfield investments) have resulted in considerable achievements in the manufacture of spare parts for the automotive industry, buses, braking systems for railroad
vehicles, steel constructions, standard and non-standard equipment, electrical substations, lead starter
batteries, processing and reworking metal frameworks etc.
All manufacturing facilities have modernized equipment that meets global standards for environmental protection and product safety.
The metalworking and electrical industries’ annual share in GDP at basic prices is 2.71% and in
the total number of employees 4.6%. Their share in the volume of industrial production at the level of
industry and mining is 10.4% and in the country’s total exports 14.8%.
The past few years saw continuous rise in exports. The following products are sold on foreign
markets: gas and liquid filtration and purification machines and devices, automotive electronics, boards,
panels and racks, motor vehicles and car parts, steel constructions, lattice-shape structures and spare
parts for them, boilers, electrical conductors, cables, wire products, solid fuel burners and heating devices, batteries and cells, brake systems for railway vehicles, pumps and spare parts, electrical substations,
circuit protective devices, different machines, printed circuit boards and other products.
Over 80% of the productions are exported to EU and US countries, and the remaining percentage to South East Europe, Taiwan and other countries.

The main goals and tasks of the Association of Metalworking and Electrical Industries are:
looking into matters related to promoting operations and resolving current issues in its scope of
work, organizing promotional activities and trade fairs, exhibitions, visits by business delegations of
special interest to the Association and its members;
reconciling existing discrepancies and differing interests within the said field of operations, bearing
in mind the interests of the economy as a whole;
adopting conclusions and proposing measures of common interest to its members which at the
same time are not contrary to the positive legal regulations and good business practices in our
country;
looking into draft laws and other regulations, giving opinions and proposals on issues of mutual
interest to the members and launching initiatives for adopting, amending and modifying
regulations;
initiating and establishing cooperation on issues of common interest with members of other
associations within the Chamber and promoting international cooperation in line with the Chamber’s
program activities and general acts;
developing the country’s business climate, encouraging implementation of European rules and
standards, education programs and innovation as part of the skills-development activities for
professionals in the field;
promoting the Chamber as a distinguished business institution and a neutral place where businesses
can discuss matters of interest to the economy.
