The share of wood industry in the export of processing industry in Lika-Senj County is 47.8%, and
39.1% in import.
Major export markets: Italy, Serbia, Germany, Slovenia, Egypt.
The main export products: beech and fir sawn timber and wood elements, intermediate furniture,
beech railway sleepers, wood pellets, a traditional wooden house made of logs.

The share of wood industry in total manufacturing industry of Lika-Senj County by the number of
employees is 36.2%, while the share in total revenue is 32.1% and the proportion in total
expenditure is 30.9%.
The share of wood industry in the overall economy of the Lika-Senj County by the number of
employees is 7.1%, and according to the criteria of total revenues and total expenditures is about
5% (4.9% or 5.1%).
The share of processing wood and wood products and cork, except furniture manufacturing
industry in total revenue is around 29.22% (9 million EUR).

In the Croatia wood industry it is noticeable the increase in productivity of 0.4% while the wood
processing industry of the County recorded a significantly higher rate of growth of labor
productivity in the timber industry average of 3.1% per year which is above the average annual
growth rate of total economy labor productivity of Croatia and the County and the Croatian wood
processing industry.

ADVANTAGES FOR THE WOOD INDUSTRY IN LIKA SENJ COUNTY
1. NATURE BASE
-- FORESTRY
The forests of Velebit, Pljesivice and Kapela belonging to the
Lika-Senj County represent raw material for the county timber.
The total forest area is 306 750 ha. Economic forests are
located on the surface of 84.49%, 3.02% are protected forests,
and 9.49% are forests for special purposes.
The total annual increment is about 1.1 million m3, the
permissible annual volume amounted to approx. 650 000 m3,
and the average annual cut down about 450 000 m3. (because
of poor of forest accessibility).
The average timber mass is 121 m3/ha and is lower than
the Croatian average (250 m3/ha (because 67% of the forest is
located on karst).
Most of the forests are national forests - 95.5%. They are
managed by the state company Croatian Forests, and 4% are
managed by the national parks.
Forestry sector in the County employs 650 permanent
workers and seasonally employs about 200 workers.

There are excellent possibilities for retraining and additional training through the Vocational
School Gospic, High School Otočac and Public Open Unoversities in Gospić, Otočac and Senj.
The average monthly net salary per employee in the wood industry in Lika-Senj County was 490
EUR and was 18.4% lower than the average monthly net salary per employee in Croatia.
