th 13 INTERNATIONAL FOUNDRYMEN CONFERENCE Opatija, May 16 ‐ 17, 2013 REPORT In the period of 16/17 of May 2013 in Opatija, Croatia, 13th International Foundrymen Conference entitled Innovative Foundry Processes and Materials was held. The Conference was organized by University of Zagreb Faculty of Metallurgy in cooperation with University of Ljubljana Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Ljubljana, Slovenia, Rio Tinto Iron & Titanium GmbH, Eschborn, Germany, Pro Ferrum d.o.o., Rijeka, Croatia, Elkem AS, Oslo, Norway and Petrokemija d.d., Kutina, Croatia and under the high auspices of University of Zagreb, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Republic of Croatia, Croatian Foundry Association (HULJ), AD klaster, Mittel Europäische Giesserei Initiative (MEGI), Chamber of Commerce of Croatia, Sisak‐Moslavina County and City of Sisak. The priority of the Conference was increasing of foundry competitiveness by rationalization and optimization of casting production based on results of researches and new scientific and professional findings, primarily related to the conceptions of contemporary materials and technologies development. Conference was attended by 180 participants from 14 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Rumania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom and Croatia). Also, 20 students of the Faculty of Metallurgy were present on the Conference (students of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study) as authors or co‐authors of five papers. Before the Conference, students and teachers made expert visit to the Foundry LIVAR d.d. in Ivančna Gorica and Črnomelj, Slovenia. Students and teachers were welcomed by Mr Franc Rovere, the Chairman of the Management Board and Mr Borut Dremelj, BSc., Head of R&D Department, has introduced the company to the guests. Technologists Mr Šefik Selman, BSc, Mr Jovo Vranjković, BSc And Mr Aleš Strmole, BSc made an introduction in production of grey and ductile cast iron in green sand moulds produced by air impulse. Students obtained an opportunity to see the production preparation from the casting drawing and 3D construction to the simulation of pouring, gating and solidification and finally rapid prototyping. Students get familiar with the different type of core production, production of tools i.e. models for automatic moulding and high volume casting production. Student’s Centre Sisak has given the financial support in participation of the students at the Conference. th 13 INTERNATIONAL FOUNDRYMEN CONFERENCE Opatija, May 16 ‐ 17, 2013 Within the Conference, 50 papers have been presented (34 orally and 16 in poster section) and all of them have been published in Proceedings book of the 13th International Foundrymen Conference at CD‐ROM and have undergone the international review procedure. The abstracts have been published in printed edition of the Proceedings. Besides eminent experts and scientists, young researchers and PhD students from domestic and foreign universities have presented their papers. Lectures and discussions have been held in English and Croatian. Round table with the topic Management of Intellectual Property in Public Research Organizations was held during the Conference and its speaker and lecturer was PhD Vlatka Petrović from the Center for Research, Development and Technology Transfer of the University of Zagreb. Also, four companies, present at the Conference as sponsors, have presented their work and products: Ferro‐Preis d.o.o., Čakovec, Croatia, Morgan Molten Metal Systems GmbH, Germany, Analysis d.o.o., Belgrade, Serbia and Bentoproduct d.o.o., Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
