Dear Colleagues,
this is the third and the last National Meeting of my tenure as President of AISP. It will held in Bologna at the
Savoia Hotel Regency easily accessible and within walking distance from the center of my charming and
historical town covered by the arcades for almost 40 kilometres: in the summertime they are a perfect refuge
from the sun and in the cold seasons a perfect refuge from the rain. In the past these arcades were made of
wood, nowadays they are all made of stone, except for one, the arcade of Casa Isolani in Strada Maggiore,
which is still made of wood. The arcades of Bologna became favourite destination for men of letters and
sciences and for young students coming from the countryside: this population growth created the necessity of
exploiting the open space of the city.
It is time to thank all of you for choosing me as President of our Association and my special thank is for the
members of Governing Board of the AISP for helping me in this extraordinary scientific adventure. At same
time, I will deliver to the new president an association scientifically valid, internationally respected and
economically health. Even if the AISP is an old association, mostly of its members are young and I would
modify the sentence of Camille Corot, one of the great figures of French realism, to describe our members “It is
important to have the genius at thirty years and talent at sixties”.
This year the topics of the congress will be challenging. According to our mission to promote and encourage
the development of science and health in the Pancreatology field, I’m trying to keep a high scientific standard
of our National Meeting. Of course, this is possible to the support of the companies who continue to believe in
our initiatives and which are giving enthusiastically their support. My hope is that there will be three days of
intensive and enthusiastic work.
Hot topics of our meeting will include the management of patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors,
exocrine pancreatic insufficiency treatment, dietary risk and diabetes mellitus in pancreatic cancer, new
techniques for endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune pancreatitis and much more. A special
initiative is the consensus conference for the revision of acute pancreatitis Italian guidelines on Thursday.
I am expecting lively discussions and I hope to revitalize relationships that are precursor for future
collaborations.
Finally, I would to thank all of you that have supported me in this fantastic scientific adventure.
A warm welcome to all of you in Bologna!
