Incrocio di passioni
Imola e il suo circondario di Comuni offrono un territorio unico, apprezzato per la presenza di
Motori, Musica, Enogastronomia, Arte, Rocche e Benessere. Le tradizioni e gli ambienti si sono
conservati e il progresso tecnologico di questa nostra “Terra dei motori” si è evoluto nel rispetto
delle nostre usanze. Queste terre sono al centro di un incrocio di irripetibili passioni. Qui, tra
Maranello e Rimini, al confine tra Emilia e Romagna, ogni desiderio può trovare risposta.
Ciascuno decida come conoscere, gustare, vivere e scoprire le nostre terre ospitali, assecondando
la propria passione di “gastronauta”, musicofilo, ciclista, amante dell'arte, dei motori, del relax...o
scegliendo di vivere appassionatamente tutte le cose insieme.
Una varietà di “sapori turistici” che s'intrecciano grazie alla S.T.A.I. (Società Turismo Area
Imolese): una società consortile fondata nel 1996 alla quale aderiscono circa 100 soci, tra pubblici e privati. Fra questi le 10 municipalità (Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Castel del Rio,
Castel Guelfo, Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza, Fontanelice, Imola, Medicina, Mordano) e le strutture ricettive più qualificate. E non è tutto, perché dal 2002 esiste anche l'esclusivo club di prodotto “MotorSite”, costituito fra Imola e Modena per gli appassionati del
settore, per un vero turismo nei luoghi simbolo della tradizione motoristica italiana. Sono riportati nella presente pubblicazione i più importanti
eventi culturali, musicali, enogastronomici e sportivi che vengono riproposti ogni anno. Fornisce dunque utili suggerimenti anche per il programma degli appuntamenti del 2015.
A Crossroads of passions
Imola and the towns located within its district represent a special area, featuring Motors, Music, Wine &
Food, Art, Castles and Wellbeing. Traditions and the environment have been preserved in this ‘Land of
Motors’ and technology has developed while respecting local habits.
These lands are a crossroads of unique passions. Here, from Maranello to Rimini, on the border between
Emilia and Romagna, every desire can be satisfied. Everyone can taste, learn about, enjoy and discover our
welcoming area following one’s passion for food, music, cycling, art, motors, relaxation... or he/she can
choose to passionately enjoy all these things together. This ‘tasty’ mix of tourist opportunities is offered by
S.T.A.I. (Society for Tourism in Imola’s Area), a consortium set up in 1996 which today gathers 100 public
and private partners including 10 municipalities (Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Castel del Rio, Castel
Guelfo, Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza, Fontanelice, Imola, Medicina and Mordano) and the best accommodation facilities. In addition to this, the “MotorSite” project was launched in 2002 to offer to racing
enthusiasts a number of itineraries through the legendary places of the Italian racing history located from
Imola to Modena. This brochure features the main yearly cultural, musical, sport, wine and food initiatives. It therefore provides updated information about 2015 events.

Nascosti dai riflettori e dalle telecamere si celano tesori di arte e di cultura, location di
eccezione per eventi che richiamano ogni anno molte persone. I centri storici con le loro
piazze, rocche e palazzi catturano l’attenzione del turista più esigente. I comuni, disseminati lungo un territorio ricchissimo, offrono luoghi da vivere e da conoscere. A Castel Guelfo
il centro storico, con i palazzi Malvezzi e del Podestà, è ancora racchiuso dalle mura del
castello, mentre Castel San Pietro Terme, tipicamente bolognese, è percorso da caratteristici portici. A Dozza, affreschi realizzati da firme illustri durante la Biennale "Muro
Dipinto" colorano le vie del borgo. Il centro di Medicina, Comune dal 1155 per volontà di
Federico Barbarossa, conserva un aspetto urbanistico del sei-settecento. All’ingresso del
centro storico di Mordano svetta una bella coppia di torrioni, mentre ad Imola, l'aristocratico centro cittadino è attraversato dalla Via Emilia, sulla quale si affacciano importanti
palazzi del '700. Il territorio imolese vanta un ricco cartellone di eventi teatrali e musicali.
Tutta da ascoltare è la vasta gamma di appuntamenti che animano i centri storici: dalla stagione concertistica del Circolo della Musica ai festival dell’Associazione Emilia Romagna
Festival e della prestigiosa Accademia Pianistica; dalla rassegna musicale di Imola in
Musica, ai festival di musica Jazz, Blues e Rock.

Although major events made us familiar with the large public, this area also offers treasures away from spotlights
and cameras. Historic centres, noble residences and castles welcome the most demanding visitor. The
Municipalities of this territory are waiting to be discovered. Castel Guelfo’s old town centre, surrounded by ancient
walls, features historical buildings like Palazzo Malvezzi and Palazzo del Podestà, while Castel San Pietro Terme’s
streets are shadowed by arcades like Bologna’s ones. Dozza, a small hilly village, is decorated with frescoes made
by renowned artists taking part into the Painted Wall Biennial Exhibition. Medicina was established as a municipality by order of Frederick I Barbarossa in 1155. Its town centre still retains a 17th -18th century urban layout.
The entranceway of Mordano’s old town centre features two nice towers, while Imola’s aristocratic city centre is
cut across by the Via Emilia, an ancient road scattered with remarkable 18th century residences.
Imola’s territory features a thick calendar of top-quality theatre and music events held throughout the year. It offers
a wide choice of events including the concerts organized by Circolo della Musica, Emilia Romagna Festival and
the renowned Accademia Pianistica, as well as music festivals such as Imola in Musica and events focused on jazz
and blues.

La rocca, la cui costruzione risale al 1261, è uno dei massimi esempi
di fortezza rinascimentale della regione. Numerosi sono gli ospiti che
ha accolto: da Niccolò Machiavelli a Caterina Sforza, da Cesare
Borgia a Leonardo da Vinci. Proprio quest’ultimo, dall’alto delle sue
torri, disegnò nel 1502 la Pianta di Imola, oggi custodita nella Royal
Library di Londra. Ad impreziosire le raccolte museali troviamo una
rara collezione di armi antiche ed un prestigioso allestimento di
ceramiche medievali e rinascimentali. Percorribili sono anche i suggestivi camminamenti.
Il fortificato Palazzo Alidosi (XVI sec.), sede del Comune, racchiude il
rinascimentale "cortiletto delle tre fontane", con loggia sorretta da
tre colonne e affreschi del pittore Giuseppe Pasini. Al suo interno si
possono visitare il Museo del Castagno ed il Museo della Guerra, con
oltre un migliaio di reperti bellici delle due guerre mondiali. Il piano
interrato ospita la Cantinaccia, un luogo di accoglienza turistica, vendita, degustazione dei prodotti del territorio. Il Ponte Alidosi, autentico capolavoro di ingegneria civile, proclamato monumento nazionale
nel 1897, possiede una struttura a schiena d’asino con un’unica arcata di 42 metri ed una freccia di 19 metri.
Alidosi Palace and Bridge in Castel del Rio
La Rocca di Dozza è un manufatto di origine medievale trasformato
da Caterina Sforza in castello fortificato e adibito, in epoca rinascimentale, a residenza nobile per volontà dei Campeggi e dei
Malvezzi, due potenti famiglie senatorie bolognesi. Il complesso si
presenta come casa-museo di cui si offre la visita organizzata su
tre percorsi: la Fortezza medievale e rinascimentale, la Residenza
rinascimentale, la Residenza settecentesca.
La pregevole quadreria, gli arredi e gli oggetti storici dei MalvezziCampeggi animano le nove sale del piano nobile e la cucina storica. Il Museo comprende anche collezioni d’arte
contemporanea raccolte nel Centro Studi e Documentazione del
Muro Dipinto.

This building dating back to the Middle Ages was turned into a fortified
castle by Caterina Sforza in the Renaissance period. Later on it became the
noble residence of the powerful Campeggi and Malvezzi families from
Bologna. Today it is a “living museum” offering three different itineraries:
the Medieval and Renaissance fortress, the Renaissance residence and the
18th century residence.
Valuable paintings, furniture and objects of art left by the Malvezzi-Campeggi
family enrich the nine rooms on the first floor and the traditional kitchen. The
museum also includes contemporary art collections kept in the “Painted Wall”
Research and Documentation Centre.
Imola’s Sforza Castle
Built in 1261, it is a remarkable example of Renaissance castle in
the Region. It hosted several historical figures such as Niccolò
Machiavelli, Caterina Sforza, Cesare Borgia and Leonardo da Vinci.
The latter drew the Map of Imola in 1502 from the top of its towers.
Today the map is kept at the Royal Library of London. The castle
houses a rich collection of ancient weapons and valuable Medieval
and Renaissance ceramics. Not to be missed is a walk along its
beautiful communication trenches.

Nowadays, the fortified Palazzo Alidosi (16th century) is the seat of the Town Hall.
Inside you may visit the Renaissance-style "courtyard of the three fountains", with
a loggia sustained by three columns and frescoes painted by Giuseppe Pasini.
Moreover, the building houses the Chestnut-Tree Museum and the War Museum
with over one thousand artifacts from the First and Second World Wars. The
“Cantinaccia”, a tourist information point where local products can be purchased
and tasted, is located in the underground vaults.
The Alidosi Bridge, a real masterpiece of civil engineering, has been a national
monument since 1897. It is a humpback and single-vault bridge stretching for 42
metres and 19 metre high.

Muro Dipinto di Dozza
La Biennale del Muro Dipinto, che Dozza ospita da quasi mezzo secolo, testimonia la vocazione artistica di questo piccolo borgo medievale, uno dei cento “Borghi più Belli d’Italia”,
in particolare il suo impegno nel promuovere le espressioni dell’arte contemporanea.
A Dozza l’arte si fa paesaggio urbano e decora i muri delle case, le strade e le piazze,
inondando di luce e stili diversi ogni angolo ed aprendosi a squarci di colori improvvisi.
Si tratta di un vero e proprio museo a cielo aperto, in cui si possono ammirare oltre un
centinaio di opere collezionate negli anni e realizzate da nomi prestigiosi dell’arte contemporanea quali Sebastian Matta, Remo Brindisi, Riccardo Schweizer, Ennio Calabria,
Cesare Sughi, Norma Mascellani,Tano Pisano, Luca Alinari.
Dal 2007, anche la frazione di Toscanella ospita interventi di Street Art legati al mondo
dei writers. L’evento artistico, che sta traguardando i cinquant’anni di vita, ha fortemente caratterizzato l’aspetto di Dozza. All’interno della Rocca, infatti, sono conservati gli
affreschi e i bozzetti delle opere su muro esposti nel Centro Studi e Documentazione del
Muro Dipinto.
Dozza’s Painted Wall
The “ Painted Wall”, a Biennial Festival of Contemporary Art held in Dozza for almost
fifty years, shows the artistic vocation of this small medieval hamlet (one of the hundred “Most beautiful hamlets of Italy”) and in particular its commitment to promote all
the expressions of contemporary art. In Dozza, art blends with street furniture as it
covers the walls of the houses, streets and squares, making every corner brighter and
offering suggestive views. It is a real open-air gallery where one can admire works
by Sebastian Matta, Remo Brindisi, Riccardo Schweizer, Ennio Calabria, Cesare Sughi,
Norma Mascellani, Tano Pisano, Luca Alinari and many others.
Since 2007, the nearby town of Toscanella also hosts street art performances relating the writers’ world. This artistic event, which will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary, has deeply changed Dozza’s appearance. Some frescoes and the sketches of
the wall paintings are kept in the “Painted Wall” Research and Documentation Centre
inside the castle.

Palazzo Tozzoni di Imola
La dimora dei conti Tozzoni rappresenta un esempio ben conservato di
residenza nobiliare abitata per secoli da famiglie dell’aristocrazia
locale e divenuta in seguito museo pubblico. Conserva ancora intatti i
propri arredi e suppellettili, insieme ad un’integra struttura architettonica tardo-barocca.
Il ricco percorso espositivo si snoda attraverso sontuosi ambienti,
quali l’Appartamento Barocchetto, lo scalone d’ingresso ornato di
statue opera di Cosimo Morelli, prestigiose quadrerie di dipinti, collezioni di stampe, medaglie, stucchi e ceramiche. Le cantine e gli
spazi domestici del palazzo, anch’essi visitabili, ospitano una ricca
collezione di strumenti ed attrezzi della civiltà contadina locale di
grande interesse storico.

For centuries a local noble family, the Counts Tozzoni, lived in this
residence that was later turned into a public museum. It still keeps
its original furnishings and Late-Baroque architectonical layout.
The route leads the visitor through luxurious rooms such as the Late
Baroque Apartment, the main staircase designed by Cosimo Morelli
and decorated with sculptures, valuable paintings, collections of
prints, medals, stuccoworks and ceramics. The cellars and kitchens
of the palace can be also visited. They house an outstanding
collection of local farming tools and utensils of great historical
interest.

L’ex convento di San Domenico di origine trecentesca ospita due importanti percorsi museali recentemente ristrutturati. Le “ Collezioni d’arte della
città” è un percorso dal Trecento a oggi che espone oltre 600 pezzi tra
dipinti, sculture, arredi sacri, ceramiche, disegni, monete, medaglie e installazioni, provenienti dalle collezioni civiche. Il “ Museo Giuseppe Scarabelli”
porta il nome dello scienziato che lo fondò nel 1857 quando donò alla città
il “ Gabinetto di Storia Naturale” perché divenisse un luogo attivo di studio
e ricerca scientifica.

The former convent of Saints Nicolò and Domenico dating back to the 14th
century hosts two major museum exhibitions recently renovated. The “ City
of Imola art collections” is a visitor’s itinerary from the Fourteenth century
to the present. It consists of over 600 works of art and items in a diversity
of medium including paintings, sculptures, liturgical furnishings,
ceramics, drawings, coins and medals and site specifics works.
The “ Giuseppe Scarabelli Museum” bears the name of the scientist who
founded it in 1857 when he donated the city the “ Cabinet of Natural History”
to become an active place of study and scientific research.

Si racconta che Federico Barbarossa, di passaggio per il borgo, venisse guarito dai propri
mali grazie ad una biscia messa a bollire nella sua minestra. Dall'insolita "medicina"
nacque il nome della cittadina alle porte di Bologna, dove ogni anno ha luogo la
rievocazione storica a lui dedicata. Spettacoli in costume con 2000 figuranti per tutto
il paese, corteo storico, cavalcata, partita a scacchi vivente, mercato medioevale, e
20 punti con ristorazione tipica medicinese.

The Emilia Romagna Festival is the largest regional festival of learned music, dance and
theatre in Italy. The festival, being part of the European Festivals Association (gathering the
most important festivals in Europe) since 1999, is usually held from July to mid September
and features more than 50 events all over an area including about 35 towns in 4 Provinces
(Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena).

The International Music Festival “ From Bach to Bartòk” will take place in the loveliest corners and venues in Imola’s area. Trying to promote research and innovation, over the
years the Festival has always offered top-level concerts, featuring internationallyknown artists and orchestras along with the best students of the Academy, coming
from all over the world.

The legend goes that Frederick I Barbarossa, during a short stay in this village, was healed by a boiled snake in a soup. The little town close to Bologna was named after this
unusual "medicine". Every year it hosts an historical celebration dedicated to the
Emperor. 2,000 people wearing costumes will be involved in performances throughout
the village, such as a historical procession, a cavalcade, a living game of chess, and a
medieval market. There will be 20 stands offering Medicina’s local dishes.

A Dozza ritorna il fascino del “ Muro Dipinto”, fra le antiche tradizioni pittoriche e l’attualita’
del writing e del wall painting. A partire dal 1960 la caratteristica manifestazione di interventi pittorici sui muri delle case ha trasformato l'affascinante borgo medievale di Dozza in
un affascinante museo a cielo aperto dove gli artisti dipingono in relazione con il contesto
urbano e a diretto contatto con il pubblico.
The fascinating “ Painted Wall” is back in Dozza, featuring traditional painting as well
as more contemporary techniques such as writing and wall painting. Since 1960 this
interesting wall painting event has turned the lovely medieval village of Dozza into an
enticing open-air gallery where murals perfectly fit into the town setting and artists
are in direct contact with viewers.

Nelle antiche cantine della Rocca di Dozza si trova un incredibile
giacimento di gusto e tradizione. E’ l’Enoteca Regionale Emilia
Romagna, l’associazione di produttori che dal 1970 si occupa della
valorizzazione dei vini della regione. Nei sotterranei della Rocca
Sforzesca è possibile scoprire, assaggiare e acquistare oltre 1000 etichette selezionate: un itinerario che, dall’aperitivo al dessert, offre una
panoramica completa della qualità e varietà dei vini prodotti in regione. Ma non solo. In Enoteca sono disponibili anche specialità come l’olio extravergine d’oliva di Brisighella e colline di Romagna e l’aceto
balsamico tradizionale di Reggio Emilia e Modena. Nel wine bar
dell’Enoteca Regionale sono poi organizzati lungo tutto l’arco dell’anno banchi d’assaggio tematici, corsi e numerose iniziative.

The ancient cellars of Dozza’s Fortress are home to a wealth of flavours and
traditions. This is Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, an association of wine
producers that has dealt with the promotion of regional wines ever since 1970.
In the underground vaults of the Sforza Castle one can discover, taste and buy
more than 1,000 selected wines. Enoteca Regionale provides a complete
overview of the regional wines in terms of quality and variety thanks to a display route ranging from the aperitif to the dessert. But not only that. Food specialties such as extra-virgin olive oil from Brisighella and traditional balsamic
vinegar from Modena and Reggio Emilia are also available. Themed tasting
sessions, lessons and many other initiatives are held throughout the year in the
wine bar of Enoteca Regionale.

events and shows. The fair attracts 30,000 visitors and it is held along with the Carrera
(a hand-push vehicle race).

Imola gets perfectly dressed to celebrate Bacchus (the God of Wine), gastronomy, culture and entertainment. For two weeks (and three week-ends) the streets and the squares
of the town will stage shows and events, historic buildings will house interesting exhibitions and itineraries, and restaurants will organise themed dinners, tastings and cookery
lessons. Thanks to this blend of gastronomy, wines, culture and art, visitors will enjoy a

Fin dal 1622 a Tossignano si celebra la Festa della Polenta, nata per ricordare il
giorno in cui il governatore distribuì polenta e vino alla popolazione dopo un periodo di carestia. Nel 1901 invece, in seguito ad uno sgarbo subito durante la Festa,
alcuni giovani di Borgo decisero di boicottarla creandone un’altra: la Sagra dei
maccheroni. Da quel giorno vengono dunque organizzate in contemporanea la
degustazione della polenta al ragù a Tossignano ed i maccheroni conditi con carne
bovina, salsiccia, lardo e parmigiano nella piazza di Borgo.

Festa dedicata alla fragrante piadina, che si tiene ogni anno il Lunedì dell’Angelo
insieme alla caratteristica corsa dei somari.
The festival dedicated to the fragrant piadina bread will be held as usual on Easter
Monday along with the traditional donkey race.
The Polenta Festival has been held in Tossignano since 1622 to celebrate the day
in which a local governor handed out polenta and wine to the inhabitants after a
famine. In 1901, a rude act suffered during the Festival led a few youngsters from
Borgo to boycott it by inventing another one: the Maccheroni Festival. Ever since on
the same day it is possible to taste both polenta with ragù in Tossignano and
maccheroni seasoned with beef, sausage, lard and Parmigiano cheese in the
square of Borgo.

Come da tradizione, i ravioli venivano regalati agli allevatori e ai mediatori in occasione
della fiera del bestiame che si svolgeva il 19 marzo per San Giuseppe. Durante la festa
vengono lanciati dalle torri paesane quintali di ravioli dolci sulla folla presente.

mediators during the cattle fair of St Joseph held on 19th March. Today hundreds
of kilos of sweet ravioli are launched to the crowd from the town’s towers.

Santerno offrendo paesaggi mozzafiato per gli escursionisti. ATossignano
vi è inoltre il Centro Visite "Palazzo Baronale", che conserva esemplari di
gessi e calcari e che ospita il museo della cultura materiale. Offre anche
la possibilità di condurre laboratori didattici sulla natura e l’ambiente.

Romagna’s Chalk Vein Regional Park
It is a wetland comprising stretches of water and a wooded area. It is
located in Medicina’s area. Here the visitor can observe different animal
species such as the bittern, heron, the coot, the mallard, the kingfisher
and the marsh tortoise. The natural reserve has also developed different
environmental education tools, such as an educational farm running
workshops for schools on different topics (birdwatching, the herbarium,
nutrition, and recycling).
It features a spectacular natural moon-like cliff, rich in caves, underground passages and fascinating paths. The 15-km long selenite
chalk chain overlooks the Santerno Valley offering breath-taking views
to hikers. Borgo Tossignano houses "Palazzo Baronale" Visitors'
Centre where chalk and limestone specimens are kept along with a
collection of ancient farming tools. It also runs workshops on nature
and the environment.

Imola’s Racetrack, regarded as the hometown of the “ Rosse” all over the world, is always ready to host exciting and spectacular sport
competitions. The facility, racetrack and pit building are functional and up-to-date and they satisfy the requirements of international

The Pit building is composed by 32 pits (indoor garages, 100 m² each, which can be joined together), a press room, managements offices and a Race direction. The circuit has 2 Paddock areas extending over a surface of 50.000 m², where fairs and music Festival are

Motorsite - the land of motors is a consortium promoting motoring
tourism in Emilia-Romagna. Here is the cradle of the Italian motoring
tradition represented by iconic places such as Museum Galleria
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Stanguellini collection.
A strange quirk of fate has, in fact, led to development of a conglomeration of mechanical companies, circuits, motor racing events,
museums and private collections on a small stretch of land on the Po
plain between Modena and Imola, helping create a tourist attraction
unique in the world.
Motorsite shuttle is the new minibus for small groups up to 8 persons available for wine and food experiences, one-day trips in the Land of Motors

Museo Checco Costa - Imola Cuore della Terra dei Motori
Radiotelescopi di Medicina
Il Centro visite è dotato di uno spazio espositivo per mostre temporanee e di un allestimento museale permanente dedicato alla tradizione motoristica dell’Autodromo di Imola e di Emilia-Romagna “Terra di Motori” attraverso l’esposizione di pezzi unici provenienti in parte dal patrimonio delle
collezioni private presenti in regione.
Nella struttura possono essere allestiti spazi polivalenti per attività didattica, incontri di tipo formativo-culturale, incentive, presentazione di prodotti e cene di gala / aziendali. La struttura che ospita il museo è stata realizzata sulla base dei più elevati standard energetici, interamente ricoperta
di pannelli fotovoltaici per circa 2000 metri quadrati.
A Medicina è installato il più importante complesso radioastronomico italiano, gestito dall’Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna. Ne fanno parte
il radiotelescopio Croce del Nord e la parabola da 32 metri,due strumenti
con cui è possibile indagare le profondità più remote del cosmo. Il primo
è realizzato secondo il principio delle Croci di Mills (due file perpendicolari di antenne che ‘mappano’ lo spazio), mentre il secondo svolge un
ruolo importante nello studio di comete, di sistemi planetari extrasolari e
di asteroidi potenzialmente pericolosi per la Terra. Il Centro Visite guida
i visitatori ai misteri del cosmo attraverso pannelli descrittivi e postazioni multimediali.
Checco Costa Museum - Imola Heart of the Land of Motors
The Visitor Center has a space open to temporary exhibitions and a permanent museum arrangement devoted to the racing tradition of Imola
and Emilia-Romagna "Land of Motors" through the exposition of unique pieces from the private collections present in the region.
The structure spaces can be set up for multipurpose activities: teaching, meetings, incentives, product launches and gala dinners / business.
The building that hosts the Museum has been realized on the basis of higher energy standards, entirely covered with photovoltaic panels for
2000 square meters.

Medicina Radio Telescopes
The most important radio-astronomic complex has been installed in Medicina
and it is run by the Radio-astronomy Institute of Bologna. It includes the “Croce
del Nord” radio telescope and a 32-metre parabola designed to peer into the
most remote depths of the universe. The first one has been designed according
to the principle of Mill’s Crosses (two perpendicular rows of aerials ‘mapping’
the space), while the second one plays an important role in the study of comets,
extra-solar planetary systems and potentially hazardous asteroids to the
Earth.The Visitors’ Centre, leads visitors to explore the mysteries of the cosmos
through explanatory panels and multimedia stations.

The Imola circuit will be open four days to fans and supporters to remember Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger in
