Negli USA è in vigore una legge che impone alle società quotate nella borsa statunitense di segnalare annualmente alla Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) l'impiego dei cosiddetti "conflict minerals", ovvero quei minerali quali oro, tantalio, stagno, tungsteno e loro derivati, estratti in condizioni di abuso dei diritti umani ed i cui profitti vanno ad alimentare i gruppi armati locali anziché favorire la crescita del Paese. Anche se NLMK Verona S.p.A. non è quotata nella borsa statunitense, il suo Codice Etico è basato sul rispetto dei diritti umani e sulla contrarietà a qualsiasi forma di violenza, soprattutto armata. Per tale motivo si dichiara che tutti i minerali (ferroleghe) acquistati non provengono dalle zone di conflitto quali ad es. la Repubblica Democratica del Congo o Stati limitrofi.
