Welcome address
The MG CAR CLUB d’Italia has the pleasure of welcoming all the participants to the X MG BY THE SEA
and to the 40th ANNIVERSARY of MGCCItaly.
MGs give to the town of Gabicce Mare a touch of elegance and exclusivity because they are jewels
which can give to spectators emotions similar to those experienced when looking at the 1000 Miglia.
Several MGs participating in our event are pre-wars the oldest of which were produced in 1932.
The first edition of this event took place in 1992. Ever since then, year after year, the quality,
authenticity and the originality of the new activities have increased the prestige of our event thus
leaving nice and unforgettable memories.
This year our event is linked to the 40th ANNIVERSARY of the MGCCItalia and traditionally the Gabicce
Mare Hotel Multiservice Group is our main partner. Their hospitality, shown in occasion of our peaceful
invasion, makes the participants feel as if we were “Kings”. It is as if we are at home.
This magic feeling is known to those of you who have already participated in the previous editions of
this MG event and for sure it will be discovered also by the ones who are here for the first time.
The organization of this event is the result of an experienced teamwork. The team led by Fabio
Filippello, president of the MGCCI, has its base in Rome and is assisted by the members of the MGCC
Regional Centre of Emilia Romagna as well as by the Gabicce Mare Hotel Multiservice Group. MG
means “friendship” all over the world and in addition, our motto is “MG is…. living free, together”. We
wish that this week we spend together will be remembered as a happy and special one.
MG BY THE SEA is traditionally escorted by the motorbikes of the Road State Police as a demonstration
of the importance that authorities give to our event, supplying an imposing Public Order service to
grant safety to our MGs and to the public along the roads, those who are so curious to admire the
unexpected “old ladies” passing by.
Our wish is that these days will be a happy “holiday by the sea in MG“, to be remembered in the
future for the emotions given by the fantastic itineraries, culture and spending evenings with old and
new friends, enjoying wine and local gastronomy.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
• For safety reasons we will be escorted by the Road State Police. Please follow their instructions.
During our trips we drive in a long convoy, which requires a lot of organization and its success
depends on the collaboration of the participants. There is no time to wait for latecomers, so please
make sure you have enough fuel on board, since there is no time to stop at a petrol station.
• Also this time, photographs will be taken by a professional photographer during the event. You can
book them and buy them before you leave Gabicce Mare. Information is available at the event
office.
• If you have any question regarding the event organization or local tourism, please feel free to come
to the MG BY THE SEA office. The staff will be happy to help you.

Messaggio di Benvenuto
Il MG CAR CLUB D’ITALIA ha il piacere di dare il benvenuto a tutti i partecipanti al X MG BY THE SEA e
al 40° ANNIVERSARIO di MGCC Italia.
Le MG regalano alla città di Gabicce Mare eleganza ed esclusività, poiché sono gioielli in grado di
offrire al pubblico emozioni identiche al passaggio delle fuoriserie concorrenti alla 1000 Miglia. Diverse
delle protagoniste partecipanti sono ante guerra, le più rare furono prodotte nell’anno 1932.
La prima edizione del raduno risale al 1992, anno dopo anno la qualità, l’autenticità e l’originalità
delle nuove attività in programma nella manifestazione hanno aumentato il prestigio delle stesse
lasciando ricordi belli ed indimenticabili.
Quest’anno il raduno è collegato al 40° Anniversario di MG CAR D’ITALIA e come da tradizione il
Gruppo Albergatori Multiservizi di Gabicce Mare è il nostro partner principale. L’ospitalità alberghiera
di Gabicce Mare ci fa sentire dei “RE”, i partecipanti si sentono come se stessero a casa propria.
Questa magica sensazione è conosciuta da chi ha già partecipato alle precedenti edizioni di questo
raduno MG e sicuramente verrà scoperta da coloro che partecipano per la prima volta.
L’organizzazione di questo raduno è il risultato di un buon team di lavoro coordinato da Fabio
Filippello, pesidente di MGCCI che ha la sua sede a Roma, con il prezioso contributo dei soci del
Centro Regionale Emilia Romagna e del Gruppo Albergatori Multiservizi di Gabicce Mare.
MG vuole dire anche “amicizia” in tutto il mondo, ed il nostro motto è “MG è…vivere liberi, insieme”.
MG BY THE SEA è tradizionalmente scortata dalle moto della Polizia Stradale a dimostrazione di
quanto importante sia la predisposizione di un imponente servizio di Ordine Pubblico per la sicurezza
delle MG e quella del pubblico, curioso di catturare l’attimo del passaggio delle “vecchie signore”.
Il nostro augurio è che questi giorni rappresentino una felice “vacanza al mare in MG” da ricordare in
futuro, per le emozioni vissute partecipando agli spettacolari tour culturali e trascorrendo serate in
compagnia di vecchi e nuovi amici, degustando vini e gastronomia locali!

INFORMAZIONI IMPORTANTI:
- invito i partecipanti a seguire le istruzioni della Polizia Stradale poiché il nostro tour è in carovana e
ciò implica una perfetta organizzazione, che potrà essere tale grazie alla collaborazione ed
attenzione degli equipaggi. I ritardatari non possono essere aspettati, quindi assicuratevi di partire
con il pieno di carburante dal momento che non c’è tempo per fermarsi alle diverse stazioni di
servizio.
- Sarà presente al raduno un fotografo professionista. Le foto possono essere prenotate prima della
partenza da Gabicce Mare.
- Per domande sull’organizzazione del raduno o su mete turistiche, rivolgetevi all’ufficio MG BY THE
SEA. Il personale sarà felice di aiutarvi.

All around San Marino (117 km / 72.6 mi)
Our road trip around the enclaved microstate
of San Marino takes us along the green hills of
the Romagna region with breathtaking views
towards the summit of Mount Titano (749
m/2,457 feet above sea level) laced by
medieval castles. San Marino claims to be the
oldest surviving sovereign state and
constitutional republic in the world, as the
continuation of a monastic community
founded in 300 a.C. The third smallest country in
Europe, with only Vatican City and Monaco
being smaller, San Marino's size is just over
61 square km (24 sq mi) with an estimated
population of 30,000.

lungo le verdi colline della Romagna, con vista
mozzafiato verso la vetta del Monte Titano (749
m s.l.m), ornata dai castelli medievali degli
antichi borghi. San Marino sostiene di essere il
più antico stato sovrano e repubblica
costituzionale nel mondo, nata da una

Città del Vaticano e Monaco essendo più
piccoli, le dimensioni di San Marino sono poco

Eastern Gothic Line Museum - Museo della Linea Gotica Orientale (Trarivi di Montescudo)
The museum is housed in the ancient
Romanesque church of Trarivi. Its photographic
collection illustrates events from the 2nd World
War centred largely around the village of
Montescudo, which at the time was part of the
Eastern Gothic Line. As well as photographic
material, there is an exhibition of guns,
machine-guns, fragments of bombs, etc.
Ubicato nella pieve romanica di Trarivi, la
raccolta provinciale fotografica è relativa alle
vicende belliche della 2° Guerra Mondiale che
interessarono in gran parte il comune di
Montescudo, essendo compreso nella linea
Gotica orientale. Oltre al materiale fotografico
vi sono esposti fucili, mitragliatori, frammenti di
bombe, ecc.

Il Monastero di Fonte Avellana è situato alle
pendici boscose del monte Catria (1701 m.) a
700 metri sul livello del mare.
Le sue origini si collocano alla fine del X secolo,
intorno al 980, quando alcuni eremiti scelsero di
costruire le prime celle di un eremo che nel
corso dei secoli diventerà l'attuale monastero.
La spiritualità di questi eremiti fu influenzata da
San Romualdo di Ravenna, padre della
Congregazione benedettina camaldolese.
Quando si arriva al Monastero di Fonte Avellana
si rimane colpiti dalla sua originale struttura
architettonica, dalla sua storia, dalla sua
bellezza che attira e colpisce per la sua
semplicità. La pietra, di cui è costruito, crea un
habitat del tutto unico: è un abbraccio invisibile
di energia spirituale.
The Abbey of Fonte Avellana is situated on the
forested slopes of Mount Catria (1701 m/5,580 ft)
at 700 meters (2,296 ft) above sea level. Its
origins date back to the late tenth century,
around 980, when some hermits chose to build
the first cell of a hermitage which over the
centuries became the present monastery. The
spirituality of these hermits was influenced by St.
Romuald of Ravenna, the father of the
Camaldolese Benedictine Congregation. At the
arrival at the Monastery of Fonte Avellana,
visitors are struck by its unique architecture, its
history, its beauty that attracts and impresses
with its simplicity. The stone of which it is built
creates a quite unique habitat, an invisible
embrace of spiritual energy.

Terra del Sole è una città costruita nel 1564 per
Cosimo I de' Medici da Baldassarre Lanci di
Urbino. E' stata una delle prime città fortificate
che fu pianificata e costruita interamente ex
novo con un sistema a griglia. Concepita per
essere la città ideale del Rinascimento, fu
progettata con pianta rettangolare, con un
muro difensivo interno e un bastione ad ogni
angolo. All'interno delle mura fortificate, due
piccoli castelli erano le roccaforti del "Capitano
di Artiglieria" e del "Governatore della Città". La
progettazione di Terra del Sole rappresenta non
solo un avanzato modello di architettura
militare, ma anche un raro modello di impianto
urbanistico "a misura d'uomo", valido per i nostri
tempi, sia per la disposizione simmetrica e
prospettica, sia per il sapiente rapporto tra spazi
e volumi. Oggi Terra del Sole è parte del
comune di Castrocaro Terme.
Terra del Sole is a town constructed in 1564 for
Cosimo I de’ Medici by Baldassarre Lanci of
Urbino. It was one of the first fortified cities to be
built entirely from new on a planned grid system.
Meaning “Sun land” it was conceived to be the
ideal town of the Renaissance period. Designed
on a rectangular plan, it has an inner wall with a

advanced model of military architecture, but
also a rare model of urban structure "on a

Piobbico (163 km / 101 mi)
The Castle of Brancaleoni of Piobbico was
erected in the thirteenth century, later altered
and transformed in 1573-1587 in a beautiful
Renaissance residence. Severely damaged in
the war and eventually neglected, in recent
years it has undergone a radical restoration. The
courtyard, designed by the architect Baccio
Pontelli and built by Count Guido Antonio I
Brancaleoni, captain of Duke Federico da
Montefeltro stands out for its severe beauty.
Today, the halls of the castle accommodate the
Civic Museum Brancaleoni.
Il Castello Brancaleoni di Piobbico fu eretto nel
XIII° secolo, rimaneggiato in seguito e
trasformato negli ultimi anni del cinquecento in
una splendida dimora rinascimentale, lasciato in
grave abbandono e deturpato nel dopoguerra
all'interno, è stato sottoposto negli ultimi anni a
radicali lavori di restauro. Entrati nella residenza
spicca il cortile d'onore, progettato
dall'architetto Baccio Pontelli e fatto costruire
dal Conte Guido Antonio I Brancaleoni,
capitano del duca Federico da Montefeltro.
Nelle sale del palazzo hanno sede oggi il Museo
civico Brancaleoni e l'Esposizione permanente di
abiti e gioielli della collezione Alessandro Righi

The World Association of Ugly looking ones of
Piobbico is an international organization
founded in 1879.The foundation of the club was
motivated by the need to marry the maids living
in town, with the passing of time and the
evolution of society, the association has
welcomed a broader view of the problem. The
purpose of the association in recent years has
been to diminish the cult of beauty and
appearance that dominates society nowadays
in order to restore a proper balance of social
values.
Il “Club dei Brutti” di Piobbico è
un'organizzazione internazionale fondata nel
1879.
La nascita del club era motivata dall'esigenza di
maritare le zitelle del paese, poi con il passare
degli anni e l'evoluzione della società
l'associazione ha accolto una visione più ampia
del problema. Lo scopo dell'associazione negli
anni più recenti è stato quello di sminuire il culto
della bellezza e dell'apparenza, ormai
dominante sulla società moderna, per ristabilire
un giusto equilibrio di valori sociali.

Novafeltria (142 km / 88 mi)
Durante il nostra viaggio a Novafeltria faremo
uno stop a Sogliano al Rubicone, località è
conosciuta per la produzione di un particolare
tipo di formaggio stagionato in antiche fosse da
grano, conosciuto anche come "formaggio di
fossa". Da alcuni anni la denominazione
Formaggio di Fossa di Sogliano è stata
riconosciuta denominazione di origine protetta
(DOP). Il formaggio di fossa può essere di pura
pecora o misto, stagionato per tre mesi in
tipiche fosse di forma ovale, scavate nella
roccia. La tecnica di stagionatura del
formaggio nelle fosse ha origine molto antica.
Da documenti storici si evince che la fossa di
tufo aveva un duplice utilizzo: in autunno era il
luogo di conservazione del formaggio e in tempi
diversi dell'anno serviva ad immagazzinare il
grano. Il produttore di formaggio affittava la
fossa per il tempo che era necessario alla
stagionatura, tre mesi o al massimo 100 giorni. Il
formaggio veniva posto, come tutt'oggi
avviene, in sacchetti di tela, coperti di paglia di
fieno, per isolare il formaggio dall'aria. Il periodo
tradizionale di infossatura era fine agostosettembre; la riapertura delle fosse avveniva a
fine novembre.
On our trip to Novafeltria we will make a short
stop in Sogliano al Rubicone, which is known for
the production of a particular type of cheese
matured in ancient grain pits, known as
"formaggio di fossa", fossa (=pit) cheese. Some
years ago the name Formaggio di Fossa di
Sogliano was recognized as Protected
Designation of Origin (PDO). Fossa cheese can
be made of pure sheep milk or a mix of sheep
and cow milk. It ages for three months in typical
oval-shaped pits, carved into the tuff rock. The
technique of aging the cheese has ancient
origins. From historical documents it is clear that
the tuff pits had a double use: in autumn, the
pits were used for the cheese and at other times
of the year to store grain. The producer of
cheese rented the pit for the time necessary for
the cheese to mature, three months or a
maximum of 100 days. As today, the cheese
was wrapped in cloth bags, covered with straw
and hay to insulate it from air. The traditional
period of infossatura (storaging in the pits) was
late August to September; the re-opening of the
pits took place in late November.
