CURRICULUM SCIENTIFICO
Ricercatore confermato dal 2008 in “Biologia Applicata” SSD BIO15, Docente presso il Corso di Studi in
Farmacia dell’Università degli Studi della Basilicata dove svolge, attività di ricerca finalizzata allo studio
farmacognostico e nutraceutico di diverse specie vegetali e marine (Es. Fragaria spp.; Citrus spp.;
Opuntia spp Spugne.). Si è occupato della valutazione dell’attività biologica e potenziale applicazione in
ambito farmaceutico di diversi estratti e composti naturali (piante superiori e spugne). Ha partecipando
come Host Diver, a bordo della nave-laboratorio Hatteras, alla spedizione oceanografica effettuata in
collaborazione con il gruppo del prof. J. R Pawlik dell’UNCW, volto alla realizzazione di un innovativo
progetto di ricerca per lo studio degli organismi marini. Si è inoltre occupato dell’analisi del genoma e
della sua correlazione con la biosintesi di metaboliti secondari in diverse specie vegetali di origine
sudamericana utilizzate in medicina tradizionale come lo yacon [Smallanthus sonchifolius (Poepp. et
Endl.)], Pongamia spp, Jatropha spp. Ha lavorato presso il TEAGASC di Dublino e presso il VURV di
Praga, due importanti centri di ricerca, con i quali continuano produttive collaborazioni scientifiche.
L’attività di ricerca si concretizza nelle pubblicazioni di seguito elencate, molte in collaborazione con
importanti istituti di ricerca scientifica a livello europeo.
Since 2008 he works as Researcher in "Pharmaceutical Biology" SSD BIO15, Faculty of Pharmacy,
University of Basilicata (Italy), where he carries out research focused on the study of biological activity,
chemical structure and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites in different plant species. The plant species
studied come from South American origin and were used in traditional medicine [e.g. Smallanthus
sonchifolius (Poepp. et Endl.), Thymus spp., Salvia spp., Pongamia spp, Jatropha spp] or used as
nutraceuticals [e.g. Fragaria spp. Citrus spp. Opuntia spp.] Research fellow at TEAGASC "The National
Food Centre" of Dublin at the "Research Centre of Crop Productions" in Prague. Several publication are
in collaboration with important European Research Institutes.
