Name of module: Istology and Embriology Lecturer: Silvia Parolini Language(s) of instruction: Italian Course contents: Cytology: methodology and tools for the study of cells and tissues. Chemical composition of protoplasm and its organization. The eukaryotic cell: cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell organelles and nucleus. Histology: epithelial tissue: covering epithelia, sensory epithelia and secreting epithelia. Mesenchymal tissues: connective, cartilaginous tissue, bone tissue, blood and lymph node tissue. Muscle tissue. Nervous tissue. Embryology: gametogenesis. The first 3 weeks of embryonic development. Learning outcomes of the course: The aim of the Course is to teach structural organization of histological tissues and their cells, the relations between morphological structure and function of the different tissues. Moreover, it is important to explain the different cellular populations, their cytological characteristics and ultrastructure, their behavior and their differentiation. A correct use of optical microscope is also necessary to identify histological tissue structures. Prerequisites and co-requisites: No introductory Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The teaching will be organized with frontal lessons and practice that will focus on the vision of histology samples by optical microscope.
