同窓会員の皆様、いかがお過ごしですか。本年 2 回目のニュースレターをお届けします。
最初に 3 月の震災で被災された方々に、あらためてお見舞い申し上げます。被災地域在住の登録会員は
皆さん御無事だったと、現在は認識しております。当初は事務局にも MSU 関係者の安否について、多少
のお問い合わせを受けました。しかし元々東北地方には登録が少なく、メールアドレス等も僅かしか把握
しておらず、迅速にお答えすることは出来ませんでした。阪神淡路の際に関西会が発揮されたフットワー
クには及びも付かず、今後の検討課題と考えます。さしあたり皆さんのメールアドレスは、より積極的に
御報告をいただくようにしていきたいと思います。
幹事会にはツイッター等で得た情報を転送してくださる方々もいて、被災地における同窓会員の皆様の
活躍が伝わっております。たとえば仙台在住の小池勝義さんは医薬品を被災地に届ける為に、いち早く数
十台のバイクを調達し陣頭指揮に当たりました。東京の大西一郎さんは、お父様が石巻市雄勝町にホテル
(こちらは崖の上)を所有する関係で、津波で壊滅的な被害を受けた現地を支援し、現在は漁業再興のプロ
ジェクトに協力しています。当会事務局長の樋口恵一も、トラック協会理事の立場で各方面との調整に奔
走しました。
また MSU のサイモン学長からも、当会宛お見舞いのお手紙をいただいておりますので掲載いたします。
これによりますと、MSU に在学する日本人留学生も義援金を集める活動に立ち上がってくれたようです。
ここ数年 MSU 日本会の活動状況がつかめず、日本同窓会からの送金も止まっておりました。また再開で

きるようになると思います。
一方で学長は今年度予定されていた日本へのスタディ・アブロード･プログラムの中止をいち早く決定
し、三つのツアーは一度キャンセルされました。それに伴い 5 月 14 日に予定されていた当会総会も延期
を余儀なくされました。もっともテレコミュニケーションのコスタ教授引率のグループだけは、学生の強
い要望で復活し、5 月 10 日に来日しておりました。情報が錯綜し歓迎が出来なかったのは残念でした。
本年度の総会は、結局 5 週間遅れの 6 月 18 日にガーデンシティ品川にて開催にこぎつけました。昨夏
にビジネススクールの新しいディーンになられたレンウェイ博士の一行をゲストに、総勢 20 名足らずの
ささやかな会となりましたが、上記の小池さんも上京され様子を聞くことが出来、また全員でレンウェイ
博士の誕生日をお祝いしました。博士は液晶をはじめとしたフラットパネルのサプライチェーンを、15
年以上も前から研究され、東アジア各国の企業、工場を何度も訪問されております。知日派のトップを得
て、MSU のビジネススクールと日本との関係も、新たな時代を迎えるものと思われます。
総会では、昨年に引き続き、今年もビヤパーティやスポーツ中継のビューイングなどの企画を実行する
こと、ゴルフを皮切りにビック 10 各校との交流を拡大することを含む事業計画が承認されました。厳し
い時代だからこそ、皆さんに多くの集いの場をご提供できたらと考えております。
「神様は乗り越えられぬ試練をお与えにならない」
３月１１日（東日本大震災の記憶）

冬の寒さから幾分春めいてきたなと思える日。ｆacebook の各地の友達からは春の便りが続々と届きま
したが、仙台はまだ暖房器具なしでは寒い日でした。たまたま自宅書斎にて書類整理をしていた最中、午
後２時４６分、突然の激しい揺れに慌てて石油ストーブを消しに行こうとするものの、「荒波の中の小さ
な小舟状態」フローリングの床で滑り転んで頭と胸を強打。ひるまずストーブだけは消火しました。（肋
骨は折れていました。）気がつくと既に停電状態。ノート PC は？宅内無線 LAN も駄目！ iPad が稼働
したので取り急ぎニュースを確認。最初はマグニチュード７とか８と訳の解らぬ情報に苛立ちを感じまし
た。しかし５分も立たないうちに、ソフトバンクの送受信もダウン！
今度はベランダから周りの状況確認を（自宅からは仙台市南部、遠くは金華山まで見えます）建物の火
災、倒壊等はないものの、仙台新港、仙台空港周辺からは大きな火災が発生していました。家内からのシ
ョートメールで無事を確認し合い、母も無事との事で一安心…。「雪」が降ってきました。寒いです。道
路を走る車は一切無く、歩道にはもの凄い人が歩いて家路へと「寒そうでした」灯油の残量確認をする
と、６０リットル程。電池式ラジオ、懐中電灯、電池、あらゆるサバイバル用品を点検確認し、キャンプ
用品を地下トランクルームから搬入。１３階迄の階段は思いのほかきつく、４往復で搬入終了。仙台市中
央のデパートに買い物の家内が歩いて帰宅。お互いの無事と母の無事に「感謝！」。その頃は既に｢津波｣
が押し寄せていたことは、全然知るよしもなく…。取りあえず豚小屋のように化した自宅内部の一部を整
理し夕暮れを見つめていました。停電、ガス、水道、あらゆるライフラインが寸断された中でのこれから、

幾日続くのだろうと考えながら…。
冬場の仙台は５時には真っ暗。早めの夕食を冷凍庫から取り出し、カセットコンロで何時もより美味し
い夕食を電気ランタンの明かりの中で頂きました。（もちろんお酒もちょっと多め！）真っ暗な仙台市内
を初めて観ました。星がとても綺麗でした。寝室の暖房が効かないので、和室にテントを張り（灯油温存
の為）二人で早めに就寝！翌朝、家内が「ラジオ！」と言ってラジオを付けてみると、「津波災害ニュー
ス」を初めて知りました。「食料１０日は大丈夫！」と家内の言葉に一安心！車のガソリンは半分、な
んとか行けるなと。携帯電話のバッテリーが既に残量ゼロ？困って徒歩で買い出しに行ってみると、リ
ュックを背負い、凄い数の人が歩いていました。あきらめて帰宅(>_<)その日から始まった僕の任務は、
水の確保。鉄骨長屋の１階貯水槽から２０リットルタンクを背負い１３階まで５往復。しんどい！（トイ
レの水が流れません）家内は「震災ダイエット」と笑っていました（鬼のよう）。二日目の夜もアッと
いう間に同じように過ぎて行きました。
3 日目（日曜日）３月１３日
友人が携帯電話のバッテリーをわざわざ届けに来てくれました、感謝！充電終了してみると、着信がビ
ックリするほどあり、皆さんの暖かなお心遣いに、涙が出ました。しかし、一向に繋がらずショートメー
ルにて返信をさせて頂きました。そこへ一通のメールが。普段から「兄」と慕う薬品卸の社長からの SOS。
車を走らせ駆けつけると「胃がんで胃を全摘出したにもかかわらず退院を余儀なくさせられた姿」があり
ました。運転手さんが「津波で被災」、自宅二階まで泥に埋もれ、奥様は震災当日深夜２時頃救出されし
ばらく会社には出られない状態との事。「海岸線の支店回りをしたいので一緒に行ってくれないか？」と
「兄」！やせ細った病人の｢兄｣の頼みを断ることはできません。翌日（月曜日）の朝から出発、ガソリ
ンは OK!この日の夜からぽつりぽつりと街の灯りがつき始め、「家も早く電気が来ればいいね」とまたラ
ンタンの灯りでの夕食「３～４日は帰れないかもね？」と僕。「頑張れ！」と家内（なんて奴だ！）
一人で大丈夫と聴くと「どうにかなる。心配しないで行ってきて、頑張れ！」だって？
４日目（月曜日）３月１４日
早朝に「兄」を迎えにご自宅へ。仙台物流センター（名取市）は戦場の前線基地と変わり果て、僕の車
には緊急支援物資搬送中のステッカー。ガソリン満タン（ガソリン携行缶２０L タンク４本）、一路釜石
まで出発！（「兄」には高カロリーのゼリー状ドリンク１箱）１２時頃には釜石着。唖然としました。言
葉が出ない。まだ沖の方で燃えている家屋、何も無くなった港町。昔から何度も訪れた場所は無残な姿に
なっていました。従業員はすべて無事との報告に一安心。しかし何も言えずに釜石を後に大船渡支店へ…。
大船渡には道路状況が悪く夕方に到着。釜石同様に唖然とした風景が。心が折れそう。灯りは燃えさかる
瓦礫のみ。従業員は全て無事。しかし医薬品メーカーの方が行方不明３名。病み上がりの「兄」には長時
間の車両移動は無理！一路岩手方面へ移動中、ラブホテルを発見。今日の宿はラブホテル？お疲れ様
「兄」さん、眠れぬ夜でした。（４日目のお風呂嬉しかった）
５日目（火曜日）３月１５日
早朝、やはり体調が悪いのか？一度仙台へ「帰えろう？」と聴くと「うん」と。心配です！普段か
ら弱音を聴いた事が無い人だけに…。昼前には自宅へお送りし、僕は仙台物流センターへ釜石、大船渡の

現状報告をして帰宅！情報システム部は電源復帰と共にバックアップで徹夜仕事のようでした。帰宅する
と、わが家も「電気が来たよ、早かったね！」呑気な家内の言葉に心を癒やされました。「どうだった
の？」の問いに答える言葉が見つからず、ここ二日満足な食事をしていなかったため、ほとんど無言で食
事を頂きました。多分家内も察しが付いたのか？
電気が来たにもかかわらず暗い夕食になりました。
「神様は乗り越えられぬ試練をお与えにならない」という言葉が頭の中で何度も繰り返し、眠れぬ夜がま
たやって来ました。
今現在（８月２２日）も行方不明者の方がたくさんいらっしゃいます。この場をお借りしてご冥福をお祈
り致します。また沿岸部被災地においてはまだ電気も復旧していなく、お困りの方がたくさんいらっしゃ
います。皆様のご理解とご支援の程、宜しくお願い申し上げます。
「代表幹事から」にも触れられている大西一郎さんからのメッセージです。
私の父が観光ホテルを経営する三陸海岸の雄勝町は、震源地の正面にある風光明美な漁村。あの日、湾の
奥にある町全体が、見る間に水深20メートルの海底となり、あっと言う間に引き波とともに海に消えた。
私が運営している留学生会館（東京都太田記念館、タマエスティ国際学生会館）も、緊急帰国を切望する
留学生で大混乱となった。留学生の送り出しが済むと、緊急車両の指定を取って被災地に入った。幸い父
は無事だった。この夏、雄勝町民の8割は町に戻らないことを決め、家の土台だけが一面に広がる旧市街
には、浜辺で貝拾いをするように遺品を探す人の姿だけがあった。そんな雄勝町だが、わずかに残った漁
師さんが養殖の再開に動き出した。資金をねん出するため、一口1万円で牡蠣(カキ)・ホタテ・銀鮭のオ
ーナーを募集している。２～３年後に成長したOysterがクール便で自宅に届くと言う。アメリカで鮮魚が
恋しくなると、生牡蠣にライムを絞り、カクテルソースをのせて食べたことを思い出す。被災地を応援し

bowlshapedstadiumthenapproachedasecurityguardsaying,“IamaQBatMichiganStateandwouldyou

faced competition head on first
beating out Nick Foles now the
starter at Arizona, and then highly
ratedKeithNicholasasophomore. When asked whether he would
rather
have
an
experienced
offensive line or an experienced QB, Coach Mark Dantonio quickly responded “without a doubt an
experienced signal caller.” Dantonio then went on to state that not only does the QB have the ball in his
handsanddirecttheplay,theQBisalsoexpectedtoleadtheoffenseinthehuddleandalsobeateamleader
inthelockerroom. YearafteryearincollegefootballandeventheNFLyouseeteamsrisetothetopwith
steady and productive play at the quarterback position while teams with inexperienced signal callers, no
matterhowtalented,oftenstumble. DantoniowellknowsthattheexperienceandleadershipofhisQBisamajorstrengthheadingintothe2011
season. At the most important position on the field he has a fifth year senior that has been a three year
academic All‐Big Ten selection as well as a rare three‐time team captain with a 16‐9 record as a starter. MSU’spreviousonlythreetimecaptainwascenterRobertMcCurrywhocaptainedthe1946‐47‐48squads. Cousins who was named to the Big Ten, and Maxwell Award (Player of the Year) pre‐season watch lists is
already the most accurate passer in MSU football history. Cousins 64% completion percentage and 146.7

career passing efficiency rating sit at the topofthe MSU record books. With similar stats as last season,
Cousins should break Jeff Smoker’s career records for touchdown passes (61), passing yards (8,932), and

Chicago, and from these 36 players Kirk Cousins was selected to represent all Big Ten Football student

ConventionCenterpackedhouseandBigTenNetworkTVaudience, Cousinsspokeaboutthe“privilege”of
beingaBigTenConferencefootballplayer. Cousinsaself‐professedcollegefootballjunkysaidthatliving
hisdreamofplayingcollegefootballintheBigTenhasbeenaprivilege. Hesaidthatwiththatprivilege
playersshouldavoidhavingasenseofentitlementandaccepttheresponsibilitythattheplatformofplaying
collegefootballhasgiventhem. Cousinsreceivedastandingovationforhispowerfulwelldeliveredspeech

Michigan State enters the 2011 season as defending Big Ten champions but don’t tell that to Kirk Cousins. This springthe team wasgiven massive Big Ten Conference champion rings which have not been worn by
anyfootballplayersatMSUintwentyyears. KirkCousinshasn’twornhisthoughsaying“Iwanttofocuson
thefuturenotthepast. WhenIamoldandnolongerplayingfootballIwillhaveplentyoftimetowearthe
ring then.” What Cousins really wantsto do isget another ring. This off‐season he has been talking up
“P4RB”withhiscoachesandteammates. PreparefortheRoseBowl,“P4RB”hasbeenprintedonT‐shirts
that the players train in. Getting to the Rose Bowl has stoked a flame in Kirk Cousins who is totally

１．2011 annual meeting
The Club’s annual meeting was held at Garden City in Shinagawa, Tokyo on
June 18 (Sat) with Dr. Stefanie Lenway a newly appointed Broad College of
Business Dean, and Dr. Rolf Dietrich, Director of Development International
Studies and Programs. 17 people gathered to confirm Spartan Spirits and
exchanged friendship.
Due to the uncertainty after the 3.11 earthquake, tsunami, and succeeding
nuclear power plant problem, the meeting was postponed from May to June.
Dr. Lenway talked about recent initiatives of MSU such as globalizaiton and
promoting multi-cultural resident program in dorm system. Dr. Dietrich
introduced MSU owned the largest “Manga” collection in the U.S. and 300
students had been studying Japanese Culture.
To welcome Dr. Lenway, we presented a surprise birthday cake for her since
heard that she had to experience the shortest birthday in her life, on the way
from Michigan to Tokyo.
In the official part of the annual meeting, Activities and Financial Reports were
approved as proposed by Board members, and Budget for the year 2011 was
also approved. Please see the attached statements.

編集後記：未曾有の大震災から 5 ヶ月が過ぎようとしています。未だに手つかずの場所も多く、また原発事故によ
る被害が今後この日本にどのような影響をもたらすか、想像できない事もたくさんあります。しかしながら、この
ような状況下で、私たちができる事は、日本の将来のために、子供たちのために何ができ、何をすべきかという事
を考える事だと思います。一人ひとりが考えながら行動する事が少しずつでも日本の復興にすすむのだと思います。
ただし、政治はスピーディにすすめてもらいたいですね。

Invitation to ＜SPARTAN Beer Festival＞
A casual "Noryo or Cooling Down"gathering party is scheduled again on Sept. 23(Fri).
Anyone regardless to MSU Alumni including family members and friends are welcome to this gathering.
Let's enjoy and feel nice fall weather with BBQ and great beer under the open sky!
Date； Sept. 23（ Fri, Holiday） 18:00～20:00 （ 17:45 meet at the entrance ／ Will be cancelled in case of rain）
Style； BBQ All You Can Eat & Drink （ 2hrs.）
