CLASS 3 LISTENING COMPREHENSION TEST 69(10-1) 1. Japan’s Tokai University team has finished third in the world’s largest solar car race in Australia. 2. The team on Thursday crossed the finish line in third place following two teams from the Netherlands in the time-based challenger class of the World Solar Challenge. Nine of 29 participants from around the world retired from the race mainly due to harsh conditions. 3. The race started on Sunday, covering about 3,000 kilometers across the continent from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south. Challenger-class teams had to build their single seater vehicles, using solar power and energy storage devices. 4. The manager of the Tokai University team says they were hoping to win the race. He says their car was carrying Japan’s cutting-edge technologies sponsored by Panasonic Group. The team won the race in 2009 and 2011. 5. The World Solar Challenge takes place every two years. It consists of three categories: the challenger class, the cruiser class, and the adventure class. 1. 日本の東海大学のチームが、オーストラリアで行われた世界最大のソー ラーカーレースで、3 位で終わった。 2. 東海大のチームは木曜日（10 月 22 日）、ワールド・ソーラー・チャレ ンジのタイムを競うチャレンジャークラスで、オランダの 2 チームに続 き 3 位でゴールした。世界からの参加 29 チーム中 9 チームが主に過酷 な状況の為レースから脱落した。 3. 日曜日に始まったレースは、北部のダーウィンから、南部のアデレード まで大陸を縦断するおよそ 3000 キロメートルをカバーする。チャレン ジャークラスのチームは、ソーラーパワーとエネルギー蓄積装置を利用 する一人乗りの車を製作しなければならなかった。 4. 東海大学チームの監督は、優勝を望んでいたし、チームの車はパナソニ ックグループが支援する日本の最先端の技術を装備していたと述べて いる。チームは 2009 年と 2011 年に優勝した。 5. ワールド・ソーラー・チャレンジは 2 年毎に開催され、チャレンジャー クラス、クルーザークラスとアドベンチャークラスの 3 つの部門で構成 されている。 ©（有）茅ヶ崎方式英語会
