「バイオジャパン2008　注目は創薬アライアンスとバイオマス」
バイオジャパン2008 World Business Forum」が2008年10月15日(水)から17日(金)の３日間、パシ
フィコ横浜を舞台に盛大に開催された。バイオジャパンは1986年以来開催されている我が国で最も歴史のあ
る国際バイオ総合イベントであり、本年は10回目にあたる。主催は下記バイオ関連７団体から構成されるバイ
オジャパン組織委員会と日経BP社。また本年も地元横浜市および神奈川県がそれぞれ特別協賛、特別後援団体
として全面的な支援体制を敷いた。さらに別記の政府関係機関、各国大使館など、昨年より多い71組織の後援
を得て実施された。
会期中は日本を含めて昨年を上回る23の国と地域から企業、政府機関、大学、クラスターなどが多数出展
し、出展者は共同出展を含め474機関、来場者は延べ人数で２万3681名と、昨年度よりそれぞれ約18%、
約45%も増えた。さらにビジネスパートナリングの事前予約システムの活用が進み、単なる物品販売の展示会
に留まらず、共同開発やライセンスアウトするパートナーや投資家を事前に指名して会談する、新しい形の展
示会というコンセプトが支持されたといえよう。
さらに今回も国内外の大手企業の経営者、大臣政務官、ライフサイエンス推進議員連盟幹事長、地元市長、知事、
大使など多数の要人が来訪され、昨今の金融不況にもかかわらずバイオ産業に対する産学官の期待の高さが伺
われた。

主催者を代表して挨拶に立った原田宏バイオジャパン組織委員会会長（JBA会長）は、バイオ産業は、これ
からの持続的で豊かな経済・社会の確立を成し遂げて行くための核の一つとなる産業であり、
『環境・エネルギー』
『健康』について、様々な課題を解決するキーテクノロジーであると述べ、開会を宣言した。次いで御来賓の谷
合正明　経済産業大臣政務官は、新経済成長戦略の中で、医療分野や新エネルギー分野は成長が期待されており、
バイオ技術は我が国が新たな成長を目指す上で極めて重要、との認識を示した。続いて挨拶した細田博之　自
由民主党ライフサイエンス推進議員連盟幹事長（同党幹事長）は、一昨年からライフサイエンス推進議員連盟
が進めている治験体制改革に触れ、政治主導で治験改革を進め、薬事審査員増員の進展等の成果が得られてい
ることを強調した。最後に、開催都市の代表として挨拶した中田宏横浜市長は、バイオ分野の投資としては自
治体単独では最高の230億円以上を投資し、研究開発や有力企業の集積を図るとし、全国のバイオクラスター
の中核の一つとして、バイオ産業振興へ向けた投資をアピールした。

バイオジャパン2008報告書　●基調講演 / Keynote Speech
開会式に引き続いて、3名の演者による基調講演が行われた。
2001年のノーベル化学賞受賞者で理化学研究所理事長の野依良治氏により、ライフサイエンスによる価値
創造に関し、政策的、科学的ならびに哲学的視点から示唆に富む講演が行われた。天然資源なき我が国が国際
競争で生き抜くためには、科学技術だけは何としても世界を先導しなければならないとし、最後には人間性へ
の回帰こそが最も大切だと述べた。
カーギルと帝人の合弁会社で世界を代表するポリ乳酸メーカであるNatureWorksのPresident and CEO、
Marc Verbruggen氏は、昨今の世界的物価上昇、環境・資源・エネルギー問題などを解決するためのイノベー
ション技術の一つとしてのバイオマスプラスチックの重要性を主張し、生活の多くの場で利用されるだろうと
締めくくった。
世 界 の リ ー デ ィ ン グ・ バ イ オ テ ク カ ン パ ニ ー の 一 つ で あ るGenzyme CorporationのExecutive Vice
President、Peter Wirth氏は、冒頭で「群盲、象をなでる」という例えを引き、医薬品産業の切り口は非常
に幅が広く、「患者」「コスト負担」「社会的要請」「技術」などなど、あらゆる観点で変革が求められていると
した。そしてそれらの課題をバランスよく統合し、ニッチに着目して成長するジェンザイムのビジネスモデル
を披瀝した。

ウエルカムレセプションは、初日の15日午後6時からパン・パシフィック横浜ベイホテル東急にて、国内外
の企業関係者や研究者、バイオ関係の府省庁・自治体・公的団体や国内外各地のクラスター関係者など、昨年
を上回る510名が参集して盛大に行われた。
司会者による開宴宣言のあと直ちに、来賓、基調講演演者、出展者代表、海外バイオ関連団体の代表ならび
に主催者のバイオジャパン組織委員会メンバーによる鏡開きが行われた。
次いで歌田勝弘　日本バイオ産業人会議世話人代表が乾杯の発声を行い、歓談は７時半のお開きの後まで和
やかに行われた。

●セミナー
総セミナー数は56、その内訳は、主催者が企画する主催者セミナーが27セッション、企業や国内外の公的
機関等の参加団体が自ら企画・運営する出展者セミナーおよびランチョンセミナーが29セッションであった。
3日間の参加者は延べ6,832名であり、昨年度バイオジャパンのセミナー実績5,527名を大きく上回った。
スポンサーセミナーのほか、
「再生医療」「抗体医薬」等の医療系セッション、
「バイオベンチャー」「知財戦略」
等の経営施策に関するセッション、また昨今話題性の高い「バイオフューエル」「バイオマスプラスチック」等
の環境系セッション、「機能性食品」等の国民生活に密着したもの等、幅広い話題を提供したが、なかでも「バ
イオ燃料」と「iPS細胞の展望と課題」はタイムリーな話題であり、特にiPS細胞については、今後、産業にど
う活かされていくのか注目されていることもあり、非常に人気の高いセッションであった。
●ビジネスパートナリング
ビジネスパートナリングは、企業同士が直接情報交換・商談を行う場であり、企業からのプレゼンテーショ
ンと、事前申込および当日申込による個別商談会から構成される。
プレゼンテーションの特別版として、本年は「アライアンスプロモーション」が展示会場内特設コーナーに
て行われた。会議センターでのプレゼンテーションと合わせ、本年は昨年比2.5倍の89件の発表があった。
さらに特に今回は商談相手を検索し、商談室を事前予約できる「ビジネスパートナリングマッチングシステム」
の活用を幅広く呼びかけたところ、システムへの登録者が450件に及び、当日利用も含めて延べ859件の個別
商談室の利用があった。この数は昨年の実に約２倍である。
プレゼンテーションとマッチングシステムを有効に組み合わせ、単なる商品販売ではなく、技術提携やライ
センス等の商談を個別会議で進めるという、新たなコンセプトが利用者から支持されたといえよう。

たワークショップシアターを開催し、多岐にわたる人々が参加し、交流を深めた。
また、2日目の新たな試みとして開催したハッピーアワーは、舛酒やワイングラスを片手に気軽にビジネスの話ができ好
評だった。海外各国お国柄の飲み物や日本のお酒など、バラエティに富んだものを出展者のご協力により出していただき、
会場内も非常に賑わっていた。
今年の特色として、展示会場内では環境バイオ、創薬、クラスターなどゆるやかなゾーニングを設置し来場者にわかりや
すい展示を試みた。特に、創薬ゾーンでは、日本製薬工業協会をはじめ、大手製薬企業の出展があり、好評を博した。
なお会期中、谷合正明経済産業大臣政務官、松沢成文神奈川県知事、スイス大使等の要人の視察が相次いだ。

最新の研究成果をビジネスに繋げる場として、大学TLOと知財本部を対象に、ポスター発表とプレゼンテーションを組み合わせた特設会場
を展示ホールに設けた。バイオジャパンとしても初めての試みであったが、49のポスター発表と26のプレゼンテーションがあり、活発な意
見交換が行われた。
出展者の中には、プレゼン後の名刺交換のみならず、ビジネスパートナリングのマッチングシステムをフル活用し、個別ミーティングを
精力的に実施したところもあった。

●あとがき
バイオジャパン2008は、延べ参加者が昨年比145%と大幅に増加し、盛況のうちに閉幕した。
この要因は、基調講演演者の野依先生や早朝特別講演演者の山中先生の効果があったと共に、昨
年まではいささか手薄であった環境バイオ関連の出展とセミナーに、来場者の関心が高かったこ
とが理由と考えられる。また、アライアンスプロモーション、TLO・大学知財本部プレゼンコーナー、
バイオカフェなどの新企画も来場者増に貢献した。
また本年は量的なものだけではなく、質的にも飛躍の可能性が見えた年であった。本年はビジネ
スパートナリングマッチングシステムの利用を強く呼びかけたところ、商談数が昨年の二倍に及
んだ。物品販売だけではなく、技術提携などのアライアンスの為の個別商談が進むバイオジャパン、
というコンセプトが支持された年であった。
ともあれ今回の活況は、出展者、講師、来場者、後援団体、地元自治体、現場スタッフ等全て
の関係者の熱心な協力と支持があってのことであり、主催者として感謝に耐えない。改めて全て
の関係者にお礼を申し上げる次第である。
次回の「バイオジャパン2009」は、平成21年10月７日(水)から９日(金)の３日間、本年と同
じパシフィコ横浜にて開催する予定である。さらにアライアンスに磨きをかけたバイオジャパン
に期待をいただきたい。
