Writing- Composition
Write sentences by:
 Count to 50, then 100, forwards and backwards.
 Saying out loud what they are going to write about.
 To count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals and word, count in
multiples of twos, fives and tens.
 Composing a sentence orally before writing it.
 Sequencing sentences to form short narratives.
 Re-reading what they have written to check that it makes sense.
 Discussing what they have written with the teacher or other pupils.
 Read aloud their writing clearly enough to be heard by their peers and the
teacher.
Writing- Vocabulary, Grammar and punctuation
 Leaving spaces between words.
 Joining words and joining clauses using ‘and’.
 Beginning to punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop, ques-
tion mark or exclamation mark.
 Using a capital letter for names of people, places, the days of the week, and the
personal pronoun ‘I’.
 Count in twos fives and tens and back again (extended to threes and fours).
 Find one more and one less numbers up to about 50, then 100.
 Begin to use near double facts to add and subtract, to 50.
 Begin to use double facts to add to 50.
 Solve simple problems using double and near double facts.
 Use grouping into equal quantities to begin to understand repeated addition
and then multiplication.
 Use sharing into equal quantities to begin to understand repeated subtraction
and then division.
 Find halves and quarters of quantities.
 Read the o’clock and half past times (extended to quarter past and quarter
to).

 Understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital
devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous
instructions.
 Create and debug simple programs.
 Use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs.
 Use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital
content.
