significant challenges at the individual, program and systems level,
perhaps the most pervasive challenge is addressing attitudes and
expectations- our underlying values and beliefs. Understanding how
attitudes, beliefs and expectations held by various stakeholders in the
employment process can impact transformation is a first step toward
real organizational change. Moving from that baseline to practice
though presents a considerable barrier to some organizations. This
keynote address will address the barriers to transformation that
attitudes and beliefs can hold and service strategies at each
stakeholder level that need to occur to establish facilitators of
transformation and innovation in our organizations.

So, what is leadership? Many might begin a definition of leadership
from a position of authority, others would focus on a preconceived
set of leadership principles that must be embraced, while yet others
would define it from a social influence perspective. More important
than how you define it though is how you demonstrate and develop
it. Inspiring others to dream more, learn more, do more and
become more is a goal of leadership. This session will focus on those
traits that set leaders apart from followers and provide participants
an opportunity to explore their own personal frame of reference in
regard to being an effective leader.
When developing customized employment opportunities,
understanding how employers think and developing a strategy based
on that thinking are essential for success. This session explores the
thoughts, strategies and processes employers use in making hiring
decisions. Understanding this thought process allows the job
developer to develop, implement and negotiate effective
employment strategies with employers. During this session
participants will: 1. Discover the three outcomes employers look for
in hiring decisions 2. Understand the risks employers experience
when making hiring decisions 3. Develop a strategy based on
employer thinking to improve employment outcomes.

Session 4A: Interviewing and Disclosure

Session 4B: Organizational WRAP
Featuring: Darla Wilkerson
Session 4C: YES Program
Featuring: Cyndi Johns
Description
During this session geared toward employment professionals and job
seekers, you will learn several aspects of hiring and the differences
recruitment in the business world may hold for applications. This will
be a more conversational presentation with questions welcomed
throughout the presentation. The presentation will discuss the “R’s”
of recruiting- relationships, realism, regulation, results and replication
with real examples and tools to use when applying for positions in
competitive jobs.
Mary Ellen Copeland founded Wellness Recovery Action Planning to
assist individuals who are experiencing mental health symptoms.
WRAP is a structured planning tool to monitor uncomfortable and
distressing symptoms that can help you reduce, modify or eliminate
those symptoms by using planned responses. This includes plans for
how you want others to respond when symptoms have made it
impossible for you to continue to make decisions, take care of
yourself or keep yourself safe. How does this relate to your
organization? While originally designed for individuals many are
finding this tool very effective to use to help maintain a wellness and
balance with their organizational culture. Since each culture is made
up of people and their unique personalities they bring to the work
environment there are ways WRAP can help maintain a structured
proactive way to wellness and stability. This session is an
introduction to organizational WRAP and will cover the key concepts
and WRAP process as it relates to keeping your organization well and
balanced to operate as effectively as possible.
This session will discuss how one agency has infused its summer
recreation program with a strong component of work. Not sure
where to begin? This presentation will outline how to establish a
summer youth program, including: 1. Insight into curriculum
development 2. Ways to include fun, employment and self-advocacy

Closing Keynote & Lunch: Leading in Full

In this session participants will learn about the basics of grassroots
advocacy. The Arc of Missouri provides training to families and
individuals with developmental disabilities that helps reduce the
intimidation factor people often experience in relating to legislators
about their needs, and to educate them about the legislative process.
This session will provide highlights from this training as well as incite
and perspective from real families who actively participated in the
2011 legislative session.
Assistive Technology (AT) can “bridge the gap” between the desire
people with disabilities have for employment and the requirements
of the job. Many workplace barriers can be overcome through the
use of assistive technology and/or other types of workplace supports.
Session attendees will be introduced to various AT solutions and be
provided a blueprint for the successful assessment of AT needs in
employment settings.

In these challenging times, maybe you feel like you’ve been pushed
off the swing of leadership! Don’t settle for risk aversion. And don’t
lose hope. Get up, get out, and get in the swing of purposeful risk
taking. Exercise your “risk-taking” muscles and learn practical
strategies to develop the head, heart and guts of leadership. Get
back in the swing…so you can get great results. RISK IT!
