Smoking, Alcohol, and Drugs Policy
The Children Act states that the welfare of the child is paramount. It is therefore
necessary to set down in writing certain policies that apply to all staff, parents,
carers, and visitors. There are no exceptions.
Smoking
We recognise that many people in society smoke, however we also recognise that
smoking is an activity disapproved of by many parents/ carers and to which they do
not want their children exposed to it. Kingswood understand that our employees
have the right to work and have periods of rest from work in a smoke- free
environment.
WE THEREFORE OPERATE A NO SMOKING POLICY.
No one is permitted to smoke in the building. If the member of staff is a smoker the
uniform provided by Kingswood uniform is to be removed and replaced with staffs
own clothes.
Alcohol
The bringing of alcohol into the premises is strictly forbidden. If you have purchased
alcohol, please leave it with someone, or leave it in your car, out of sight. If it is not
possible, please see the manager to inform them that you have alcohol. They will
arrange for its self-keeping until you leave for the day. Random alcohol tests are
carried out by management as part of protecting the children of Kingswood.
Drugs
Providing that medication is prescribed, we may have it on the premises. Any
medication must be kept in the medication box in the room where your child is
situated. Should you be taking any medication that may have an adverse effect on
you, please inform the manager (Afsheen Siddik).
IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO BRING ANY NON-PROPRIETYORY DRUGS
ONTO THE PREMISES
If a parent/ carer arrives at the Nursery to collect a child and appears to be under
the influence of alcohol or drugs, the nursery has every right to refuse the child
being taken out of our care until an appropriate adult can collect them. Any staff,
volunteer or student who appears to be under the influence of any of the above will
be subject to the nursery discipline procedure, and may be asked to leave. Random
