In May 2013, the Whitman Council officially voted to endorse the Casino Revolution project. Shown standing with PHL Local Gaming CEO and chairman, Joseph Procacci, are (left to right) board members Ed McBride, Laura McColgan, Barbara Leifest Ginnetti and Ryan Schmidt. Photo 2 Caption 2 PHL Local Gaming LLC, one of six bidders for the available casino gaming license, in Philadelphia, recently provided a tour of its proposed “Early Open” casino site, an 84,000 s.f. food/produce warehouse, at Front Street & Pattison Avenue. Invitees included media representatives and board members of the Whitman Council, a neighboring community organization. The proposed site enables the company to open its casino, once approved, at least six months earlier than the other five bidders, and to provide 600 early jobs. During the presentation, company officials confirmed that they planned to house their proposed casino in an 84,000 s.f. warehouse, on an approximate 25-acre parcel of land owned by Procacci Brothers Sales Corporation. Procacci added that, because of the existing facility, his casino could open six months earlier than any other bidder, and produce 600 jobs before any other bidder could do so. Photo 5 Caption 5 As the sign over the door stated, media representatives were welcomed to the “Future home of Casino Revolution,” as PHL Local Gaming, LLC, one of six bidders for the available casino gaming license, in Philadelphia, provided a tour of its proposed “Early Open” casino site, an 84,000 s.f. food/produce warehouse, at Front Street & Pattison Avenue. The plan calls for the retro-fitting of the current warehouse, and converting it into a four-star, “destination-caliber” hotel, casino and entertainment venue. Photo 6 Caption 6 Media representatives were shuttled around the South Philadelphia community adjacent to the proposed PHL Local Gaming casino site, during the recent “Early-Open” unveiling event, in which the gaming company, one of six bidders for the available casino gaming license, in Philadelphia, provided a tour of its proposed casino site. During the activity, PHL local leaders explained that its proposed facility would open six months earlier than the other bidders, bringing 600 early jobs and $51.9 million in up-front tax revenues and wages. Attendees viewed new architectural renderings, including the proposed porte-cochere, hotel room, buffet, Italian restaurant and sports bar. Photo 7 Caption 7 Jeff Hutwelker, senior project manager, LF Driscoll Co., LLC, makes it clear that PHL Local Gaming could very reasonably open its Casino Revolution property, at Front Street & Pattison Avenue, in South Philadelphia, nine months after approval, six months earlier than any other bidder. Hutwelker described the existing 84,000s.f. food/produce warehouse as a “ready-for-work” shell, with a solid structure, utilities, environmental clearances and other basics.
