Implementing the Australian Curriculum in German Friday, 1st April 8:30 - 16:00 Open Access College Hall 1-37 Marden Road, Marden S.A. 5070 A whole day workshop run by Andrew Ferguson. Andrew is president of the MLTAV, a longstanding member of the AGTV and network manager of NATG. Andrew is well known in South Australia for providing professional learning for teachers of German at our annual state conferences, for his expertise in curriculum development and his knowledge of the Australian Curriculum. The workshop will set the ground rules and establish the groups to collaborate together on units of work – using the unit planner provided by AFMLTA or their own version. As part of this they will review existing units of work to see how content may be adapted and resequenced to fulfil the objectives and content-coverage of the AC. they will also create new units where required. The scope of this project: The workshop will bring together teachers with particular experience and interest in developing resources for the primary/middle school levels 7, 8, 9 and 10. Alongside plenary sessions (morning and afternoon) led by our guest presenter, we plan to provide focus group sessions for the 4 year levels. For the Workshop we would aim to form small groups (no bigger than 4 people) based on the particular year level they wanted to focus on, and perhaps taking into account textbooks in use. Participants will receive a program for the day, and are asked to bring sample materials drawn from existing programs (phase/year plans, unit outlines and assessment examples) to discuss and re-work. Post the workshop, these focus-based ‘hubs’ (rather than geographic hub groups) would also collaborate informally (outside of structured meetings) on an ongoing basis, and would be encouraged to share materials developed with their school colleagues. While the first workshop would focus on planning and sequencing units of work, we plan to offer a follow-up AC session with parallel sub-groups for the 4 year levels as part of the 2016 SAGTA conference, with an emphasis on assessment tasks. Here delegates would report back on developments in their work, share resources, and particularly ideas for assessments.
