Physical Education is designed for students to learn through several methods, the major component being “learning by doing”. Student participation is vital to student achievement in Physical Education class. In addition, consistent demonstration of skills and application is essential in order to assess a student fairly and accurately. Assessments are ongoing throughout each instructional unit. When a student does not dress down (and therefore does not participate) the student loses the opportunity to learn, to practice and to be assessed. Students who are not participating for any reason (non-dress, Dr. excused injury, etc.) who become a distraction or disruption to the class will be referred to administration for disciplinary action. In addition to the loss of opportunity to be assessed, failure to dress down to participate will result in the following consequences: 3rd non-dress: Post card or call home to notify parents that students has not been prepared for class several times and will be assigned detention for all future non-dress days. 4th non-dress: 45 minute school detention will be assigned. 5th non-dress: Another post card or call home to remind parents of the continuing problem and to also alert parents that opportunities to be assessed are becoming very limited. 6th + non-dress: 45 minute school detention will be assigned. Differentiation strategies available in this class may include extension activities, acceleration, or other activities, depending on the needs of the student.
