Introduction
Introduction
What is the most
effective way to
discipline a child? Why
is gambling so
addictive?
In this topic, we will
discuss Chapter 5
Learning in your
textbook.
There are three major
types of learning:



classical
conditioning
operant
conditioning
observational
learning
Positive reinforcement works well in training dogs.
Learning is a change in behavior due to experience. We are all influenced by our experiences. In
fact, many times we are being impacted by our environment without our conscious awareness.
In chapter 5 we will discuss the important contributions to the field of learning made by Ivan
Pavlov, B.F. Skinner, John Watson and Albert Bandura.
Chapter 5 will also examine how phobias can be developed, how advertisers use classical
conditioning to influence consumer behavior, and the effects of punishment and reinforcement on
behavior. The processes involved in imitating the behavior of others will also be discussed.
