Junior Coaching Positions Available for 2017 Season
The Flemington Colts Junior Football Club is seeking expressions of interest from internal
and external candidates for all junior coach and assistant coach positions for the 2017
season. We are also seeking a coaching coordinator and a coordinator for our successful
Auskick program.
Flemington Colts Junior Football Club is based at JJ Holland Park, in the inner west of
Melbourne, and is affiliated with the Western Region Football League. Our club also
enjoys a close association with North Melbourne Football Club, which provides
opportunities for our players to meet North Melbourne players, tour the North Melbourne
facility, and also train and play on the AFL standard ground at Arden St Oval. Our Auskick
program is also based at Arden St Oval. Our Flemington Mugars Girl’s teams are affiliated
with Melbourne University Mugars, which provides the girls a pathway to senior women’s
football competition.
The club is undergoing a period of growth, which has enabled us to field Under 8 teams for
the first time in 2016, and our Under 12 girls’ team was recently established in 2015. In
2017 the club will be expanding further, with the addition of an additional Under 9 team, a
new Under 15 boys’ team, and also an Under 15 girls’ team.
These are exciting times for the club, and we are seeking coaches who are motivated to
help us develop our club into an elite level junior football club, while at the same time
promoting our core values of enjoyment, respect, integrity, inclusiveness, commitment.
Coaching Positions Available for 2017:
Auskick Coordinator to manage the North Melbourne Auskick program – Saturday
mornings from 0900 Hours until 1000 Hours
Coaching Coordinator to oversee and support all club coaches.
2 x under 8 – Train one night per week 1630 Hours until 1730 Hours
2 x under 9 -Train one night per week 1700 Hours until 1800 Hours
Under 10 -Train one night per week 1700 Hours until 1800 Hours
Under 11-Train One night per week 1730 Hours until 1830 Hours
Under 12-Train One night per week 1730 Hours until 1830 Hours
Under 13-Train One night per week 1730 Hours until 1830 Hours
Under 14-Train One night per week 1730 Hours until 1830 Hours
Under 15-Train One night per week 1730 Hours until 1830 Hours
Under 12 Flemington Mugars Youth Girls-Train One night per week 1730 Hours
until 1830 Hours

Selection Criteria:
The successful candidates will be those who best meet the following selection criteria:
1. Possess a strong commitment to grow, develop and teach players, and get the
most out of all players, regardless of skill level.
2. Demonstrated ability to engage with children in a positive, encouraging and
supportive manner.
3. Committing to and promoting a strong club culture, in line with the club’s core
values of enjoyment, respect, integrity, inclusiveness, commitment.
4. Capacity to provide a positive role model within the club and within the wider
community.
5. Prior to the pre-season, establish contact with players from the 2016 season,
encourage them to play again in 2017, and help support the club’s efforts to recruit
new players to the club.
6. Demonstrate a knowledge of, and capacity to teach, sound technique for the
fundamental skills of the game including kick, handpass, mark, tackle, bump, spoil,
shepherd, run and bounce etc.
7. Ability to establish and implement a suitable preseason program, and regular
season training drills.
8. Passion for the game.
9. Ability to develop a game plan and playing style appropriate for the age level and
consistent with overall club practices. The coaching coordinator will be responsible
for coordinating ensuring alignment of club practices and sharing of knowledge
across all age levels.
10. Excellent communication, leadership and people management skills, to
a. Encourage and help recruit parent volunteers to fill positions as team
managers, trainers, water carriers, goal umpires, field umpires, time keepers
and other helpers as required from time to time.
b. Work effectively and cooperatively with other coaches, trainers, team
managers, club committee members, sponsors, club members, players and
parents.
c. Deliver feedback to players in an encouraging and supportive manner, and
be receptive and responsive to feedback from parents and other club officials
and members.
11. Available for a period of at least 6 months commencing in late January or early
February (requirement varies with age level)
a. Available to lead training at least one night per week
b. Available to lead the team on match days throughout the season from mid
April to mid August, depending on possible finals participation.
c. Available to attend community engagement events, school visits, and club
meetings and functions.
12. Coaching experience is preferred however
13. Commit to adhering to and applying the rules, by-laws and codes of conduct of the
AFL, WRFL and any other league or association in which the club fields teams.
14. Possess, or commit to obtaining as soon as possible, a level one coaching
accreditation.
15. Hold a current working with children’s check, or commit to applying for a check
upon appointment.
