Afework Ethiopia Here is Afework. In his spare time he likes playing football with his friends and watching TV. Tufa Ethiopia Here is Tufa at a friend’s house. They are using nutshells to play a game. Can you see the nutshells in Tufa’s hand? Harika India Harika has to work hard to help her mother at home. Ravi India Here is Ravi eating his lunch. He is having dahl (lentils) and rice. What is Afework’s day like? The next few slides show some of the activities I do each day. The photographs are of other people in Ethiopia doing similar activities. 7:15am 07:15 At quarter past seven, I walk to school with my friend. 7:30am Our morning classes start at half past seven. 07:30 12:30pm At half past twelve I go home for lunch. The little girl in this photograph is learning to make injera. This is a type of flat bread which we eat a lot in Ethiopia. 12:30 1:30pm 13:30 After lunch I walk back to school. Our afternoon classes start at half past one. 3:15pm 15:15 School ends at quarter past three and I walk home. Here are some girls enjoying ice pops on their way home. 4.00pm 16:00 At four o’clock I go out to play with my friends. Here are two of my friends playing table football. 6:30pm 18:30 At half past six, I study at home. 7:30pm 19:30 At half past seven I help with the housework. Here are some boys washing clothes in a back street near my home. 8:00pm 20:00 We eat dinner at eight o’clock. Here is a family eating a meal in a village in Ethiopia. What is Harika’s day like? The photographs are of other people in India doing similar activities. 6:00am 06:00 At six o’clock I get up, brush my teeth, take a bath and drink tea. 7:00am 07:00 At seven o’clock I fetch water, wash the dishes and sweep the floor. This girl is using a chalk board to write on. 09:30 4:00pm 16:00 At four o’clock, school ends and I like to play games with my friends. 4:30pm At half past four I go home and drink some tea. Then I sweep the floor and collect more water. 16:30 5:30pm 17:30 At half past five, I cook dinner and take care of my father and brother. 6:30pm 18:30 I eat dinner with my brother and parents at half past six. UNIT 2 SESSION 2 How long does it take? Afework leaves his home at 7.15am. He arrives at school at 7.30am. How long does it take him to walk to school? Afework goes outside to play with his friends at 4.00pm. He goes home to study at 6.30pm. How long does Afework play with his friends for? Harika starts at school at 9.30am. School finishes at 4.00pm. How long does Harika spend in school? Harika goes to bed at 7.30pm. She wakes up at 6.00am. How long does she sleep for?
