At CV all students will show growth in critical

Testing will be in Grades 3-8 and 11.
9th grade students will no longer take a state assessment.
Computer Adaptive CAASPP Test

multiple sources of information and will be required to
synthesize this information into one piece of writing

CVHS Math Requirements
● Algebra 1 – State graduation requirement
● Geometry – District graduation requirement
• Geometry concepts for seniors only
● Algebra 2 – UC entrance requirement
• Regular course meets UC requirements with
trigonometry as an additional course
• Honors course includes trigonometry
CVHS Math Curriculum
● Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II/Algebra II Honors use
packets of open source materials organized by units. The
textbooks are a supplement to these materials.
● Packets were created and organized by teachers and teacher
specialists in GUSD.
● Opportunities for collaboration, exploration, discussion, fluency,
critical thinking and real world applications involving math are
included in the curriculum.
● Students need to have a solid foundation in Algebra I, Geometry
and Algebra II to be successful in upper level math classes at CV.
Standards of Mathematical Practice
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving
them.
2.Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3.Construct viable arguments and critique the
reasoning of others.
4.Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.

Two year requirement is not an option
● Based on the new CCSS, all students need to pass
a minimum of three years of math in order to be
successful on the assessment in 11th grade.
● A fourth year is essential to those students who
are attending college at any level. Students will
take a math placement exam at their college
which will place them in an appropriate level
math class.

Online Registration Guidelines
● Students will add 6 classes only = 12 semesters (2 semesters per
class)
● Students will add classes as though summer school does not exist.
Counselors will make changes according to their registration forms
after summer school is completed.
● DO NOT add alternates online, only note on the registration forms.

❖ Anyone wishing to complete a non-GUSD / non-GEF course
must get prior approval.
❖ Check Accreditation, UC approval, and NCAA status of school or program.
❖ 3/1/17 Request forms will be available on the CVHS Counseling website and
in the CVHS Counseling office. The form must be completed and returned to
the CVHS Counseling Office and parents/students will be notified of their
approval by phone or e-mail:

- The counselors and the administrators have an
open door policy for students before school,
snack, lunch and afterschool.
What should you expect from us?
February 3 – CVHS Principal Dr. Linda Junge meets with all 8th grade students at Rosemont to discuss CVHS
expectations, a-g graduation requirements, elective classes, and the overall high school experience.
February 17 – CVHS Counselors go to Rosemont to discuss CVHS courses and requirements and facilitate
the 9th grade registration process.
February 15 – 6:30 p.m. Incoming 9th Grade Parent Night in CVHS Auditorium.
May 8– CVHS 9th grade athletic information night at 6:30 p.m. in the CVHS main gymnasium.
June 5 – July 7– CVHS summer school.
August 11, 2017– 9th grade schedule pick up and registration day.
Wednesday, August 16, 2017 FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Final schedules will be distributed at 7:45 a.m.
