Summer Term Week 4 Newsletter Focused, hardworking, happy children!! Dear Parents and Carers, I can almost hear the collective sigh of relief around the country now all our Year 6 children have finished the SATs. I would like to say how impressed I have been with the attitude of our children towards these tests. They have approached them with such a focused and positive attitude. Thank you also to all our parents who have got many of the children to school early for the SATs breakfast which has given them a good relaxed start to the day. I need also to mention all the staff who have been involved: readers, scribes, organisers, breakfast servers, washer uppers(?) paper packers and good luck wishers. It takes real team work to bring everything together and it went smoothly. We can forget about them now until the results in July! Lisa Seton Maths A quick reminder about the year 3/4 parents Maths workshop on Thursday 17th from 3:30-4:30pm. You will need to book a place and there are only 15 places available. If you would like to attend please contact the office. Looking forward to see you there 3KG – Assembly Wednesday is a busy day for Miss Griffiths as it is her class’s assembly in the morning at 10.45. I am looking forward to seeing it and finding out about what they have been learning. 1SS - Assembly Unfortunately, as some of you will know, Miss Smith is away from school at the moment. Their assembly had been organised for May 24th. This is going to be postponed until Miss Smith is back. I think you will all join the staff in sending her our best and hoping for a speedy recovery. Football and Cricket We have quite a busy sporting week ahead with both Cricket and Football tournaments taking place. We are taking part in a cricket tournament all day on May 16th and the Roundhay football tournament on Saturday 20th. Teams have been chosen and we are raring to go. Thank you to Mr Grealish and Mrs Lynch for giving their time for these sporting fixtures. Wish us luck and I will let you know how we do! A plea from Breakfast Club If your children attend breakfast club, please can you ensure they are in before 8.30 as this is the latest time that breakfast can be served. The team have to start their work in class at 8.50 and need to make sure they have enough time to clear up and get into class. Thank you for your help on this – it is appreciated. Spot the difference BOOKS! At last our library is beginning to look like a library instead of just a brilliant, but empty, learning space and entrance into school. Mrs Ward and parent helpers have been hard at work setting out the books we have and working out what we need; so thank you for all the extra time and effort you are putting in; it is already looking lovely. Roundhay Primary Schools Run for Fun. Saturday 24th June 10am. In Roundhay park. Now in its 12th year! This fantastic event is organised by 10 schools in the area. If you haven't been before, do come along. It's a really lovely event for everybody. The runs are 1k or 5k so suitable for all ages. And all the children get a beautiful medal to celebrate their achievement. Application forms were in book bags last week. Please return them to the school office by Friday 19 May. If you need any more info email [email protected]. Reminders A gentle reminder about the end of school at 3.10. There has been an increase in the number of children who are being picked up late at the end of the day and from ASAC. We know that everyone, from time to time, runs late or has difficulty getting to school. If this is the case, please ring school and we will help. ASAC finishes at 4.20 and this is run voluntarily by many staff – so please be there to collect your children at this time. Unfortunately, if your child is continually picked up late after ASAC, we may need to cancel their place. Thank you to the vast majority of parents who are on time. Year 1 The area for lining up before and after school is quite ‘tight’. With this in mind, 1AB are now lining up along the wall and fence by the door to go in and the children in 1SS and 1SH are lining up along the children’s centre wall and the school wall in order to give the most space as a thoroughfare for children and parents walking through or waiting with their children. Please could parents not wait against the walls (especially where 1AB are lining up) as it is then becomes difficult for the children to line up properly and for teachers to ensure all the children are able to come into school safely. We really appreciate your support with this. Leaving Assembly. We all shared in a wonderful assembly to celebrate the work in school of Mrs McCann and Mr Dixon. We thought it would be nice to share some of the photos of such a lovely celebration. There will be larger versions put on the website. Thank you for your continued support - Mark Trudgill, Lisa Seton, David Bickley and Louise Jeynes.
