Taking the Week Off: The Wildcats (2-1) will take
the next week off from competition as they prepare for
their match next week on Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m against
New Mexico. The match will take place at Arizona’s
home court, the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
Starting at Home: The No. 27 Arizona women’s tennis team hosted NAU, No. 35 Oklahoma, and No. 46
San Diego over the weekend. The Wildcats finished the
weekend with a record of 2-1.
Against the Lumberjacks: The Wildcats won their
first match on Friday Jan. 30, 7-0, against NAU. Arizona swept the doubles matches as well as the singles
matches. The closest match of the afternoon came on
court 3 where the doubles team of freshman Jessie
Rochefort and sophomore Kelly Duncan had to play in
a tiebreak in order to beat the Lumberjacks’ team of
Karen Kmiec and Jeanie Willman. Arizona now has an
all-time record of 11-0 against the Lumberjacks.
Against the Sooners: Arizona lost to a strong No. 35
Oklahoma team, 4-3, on Saturday Jan. 31. The Wildcats won two of three doubles matches, and two of six
singles matches. The Sooners greatest threat came in
the nation’s No. 3 ranked player, senior Anda Perianu.
No. 28 ranked junior Dianne Hollands played a tough
match against Perianu but ultimately lost, 6-3, 7-5. The
No. 19 ranked doubles team of Hollands and junior Maja
Mlakar took on the No. 23 doubles team of Perianu and
Heather Saluri. Hollands and Mlakar ultimately came
away with the win, 9-8, after the match was forced into
a tiebreak.
Against the Toreros: The Wildcats won their final
match of the weekend on Sunday Feb. 1 against No. 46
ranked San Diego. Arizona swept all three doubles
matches and won five out of the six singles matches.
Hollands once again took on a ranked opponent in No.
41 Lauren Perl. Hollands came away with the win, 6-2,
6-4. The Wildcats now lead the all time series between
the two teams with a 9-0 record.
Ranked Wildcats: Junior Dianne Hollands is currently ranked No. 28. Junior Maja Mlakar has earned a
ranking of No. 29. The team of Hollands and Mlakar received a ranking of 19.
